Shouldn't she be more fit due to all the dancing?

You call that overweight? She is very fit.

Plus, dancers usually aren't twigs like cross country or marathon runners are.

I mean, look at this woman, she's a ballet dancer and her legs are pretty big:

Dancers tend to have pretty thick legs. And this is a fit body-type many women have, small waist and big hips and thighs. Like this woman:

I just assume Irelia has more of a pear-type body shape (like on the chart below). I honestly like this part of her design, as its a different body-type without being fat or stick thin like Jinx is. She's still fit but shows off a different body that women may have, and is still attractive to some people (some people even prefer this type of body). Win-win.

Which part of that even remotely looks overweight? It's unrealistically (keyword) ideal, not overweight.

Riot is trying to appeal to that demographic.

It may come as a surprise, but some women have that body style. Larger hips and thighs, smaller waist. It doesn't mean they're overweight, just a bit bulkier looking in some areas. Twig body =/= healthy body. You should have a weight that is healthy proportional to your body style based on what your doctor says.
