It is the same problem I have argued in the past about a few other champions Maokai and Akali. While Maokai is strong right now, and Akali is up for debate all three champions suffer from "stay away from them syndrome". Unless you have the tools otherwise to deal with them they have free reign of doing what ever they want.

P.S. I think Maokai is the largest offender of all these champions anyway.

A lot of people say Annie has no counterplay because her plethora of unavoidable stuns sure can feel overwhelming. However she does have counterplay. She can be avoided in draft champion select through banning or dodging. This isn't always viable, but you can try picking Annie yourself too. If their team does get Annie or you were matched up against her in blind pick, no worries. If you are laning against her you can follow your jungler around and leech xp. If she pushes the wave to your turret, head back and use long ranged skills to farm a few minions. You can ask your jungler to designate a few camps just for your use if he doesn't need it. Usually if you bring four of five people to gank Annie, she can only do so much as to kill one or two people before your team can get to her and finish her off. In teamfights you can avoid engaging with their team unless you see Annie on the other side of the map. But to make sure of this you and your team will need to keep the map well-warded. Thanks, I hope I've given you some insight on how to counter this misunderstood champion! :)

the fact that she can kill one or two people when everyone on your team is tryna kill her at once is INSANE Imagine what its like in a teamfight oh god....

not saying that nobody else can do it but with annie its impossibly easy god damn

You act like flash has a short cooldown, or that she never needs it defensively...

Prospector Pete3 votes

Well, she.... uhhhhhh.... You can..... Um..... I got nothing.

Ch0c0lateJesus3 votes

Just build every MR item an she will only take half your HP with one rotation.

DarthSpectrum3 votes

There is none.

Annie is played across all ELOs with an incredible win rate despite her easy kit. If she flash Tibbers, there is nothing you can do.

Her kit is very similar to old Kassadin, LB, or Talon's. She has both high base and good ratios, and can blow all her abilities in the duration of her stun. However, Annie can still be managed with the right champions and items.

Her Flash + ultimate has no inherent counter play, but if she wishes to stun you with "annie" other abilities, you do have a small window to spell shield, turn invulnerable, or otherwise dodge the stun. Additionally, you can counter Annie with Banshees and QSS. In fact, it is probably mandatory to get these items against a good Annie in order to even have a chance of winning.

Given that these items are not cheap, there is nothing you can do to Annie early on. Of course, she can only use her no-counter play move around every 5 minutes due to the CD on flash, so be sure to capitalize on that opportunity whenever you can.

Sire Hippington1 votes

However, Annie can still be managed with the right champions and items. counterpicking and building specific items is not counterplay. Counter play are actions you can take to handle specific situations, like dodgeing skillshots, avoiding Ryze till his passive is down and playing around cds. The problem with anny is that her cds are incredible low, her stun doesn't expire and she has nothing that can be dodged, there are no realy windows unless you have a champ that outranges her, and even then she can easily rush ludens and aclarity enchant to have the needed mobillity for closeing the distance, as her base values are high enough to not go for straigh damage early on

she can only use her no-counter play move around every 5 minutes due to the CD on flash, so be sure to capitalize on that opportunity whenever you can.

this only is true if you play a highranged champ. If your effecktive combat range is llower than ~750(tibers range), you will have a way smaller window, and if your range is lower than 635, you have no window at all...

Vistha Kai1 votes

Tibbers effective range is 890 without Flash involved.

Sire Hippington1 votes

thx for the correction, my source said 600 cast range+~150aoe

Vistha Kai1 votes

AoE is 290, hence 890 range.

cuddlykitten43 votes

Annie is easy to counter. Go duo top and no mid.

Hige3 votes

mercury threads and magic resist in general, she's an all in champion, after that she's stuck with autos for a bit, even though... Tibbers hurts quite a bit.

but yeah, magic resist.

Quepha3 votes

In lane phase you push and roam. If she's holding her stun she has zero pushing power at all. After lane phase you don't group up, build a qss or zhonya's, kite and poke her, there's a ton of stuff your team can do to minimize her advantages.

RIP Resonance3 votes

THEY LITERALLY NERFED HER TO HELL.

THE STUN COUNTER LITERALLY COUNTS OUT ALL OF HER SPELLS FOR YOU SO YOU DON'T GET SURPRISED STUNNED ANYMORE.

SHE HAS THE MOST PREDICTABLE STUN IN THE GAME AND NO ESCAPES AND YET YOU GUYS ARE STILL BITCHING.

PICK A LONG RANGE MAGE LIKE Zyra Brand Lux OR Morgana AND SHIT ON HER.

MEANWHILE THERE IS CANCER FREELO LIKE Zed

Jesus. This is why the balance team hates us.

MEANWHILE THERE IS CANCER FREELO LIKE Zed

if he is freelo he wouldn't have such a poor win rate. Freelo was Warwick pre nerf, Ahri in 5.2... Zed in current state just don't offer counterplay if you're ADC but he isn't freelo thank god.

RIP Resonance2 votes

I don't exactly remember specific patches, but I do remember Ahri and Annie being a permaban in early S5.

Win rates are dependent on pick rate. Lucian doesn't have the highest win rate, but he has the highest pick rate at 50% with a 52% win ratio, with a 12% ban rate. Zed is ranked 9th most picked mid, has an 86% ban rate, and a 50% win rate.

My original point is, I hate the state that Annie is in. I don't like the new Tibbers AI, as it's still buggy. I absolutely loathe the new stun counter that everyone can see. I don't know why you guys complain about her. If she holds her stun, simply push the wave. Most Annie's are bad at csing with autos. You could also play someone like TwistedFate or Ahri with the ability of mobility and long range and map pressure, both of which, Annie struggles with.

I do like the addition of item 3152 and Tibbers being Sion.

In conclusion:

Annie is my second most played champion, because she is easy. I like having champions with abilities I can rely on.

Runawaydevil1 votes

i havent even played vs an annie in a long time but it hurts me just thinking about her

loathe the new stun counter that everyone can see

really... it's literally the one thing that people can use as "counterplay" not even, all i do when i see that shit is fucking turret hug god damn

do like the addition of... Tibbers being Sion

ARE YOU FORREAL if surviving with 100 HP from an annie wasn't hard enough now you screwed no matter what?!

Annie is my second most played champion

kys you prob main Teemo for god's sake

The only counterplay to annie is having a damn silence which is rare af nowadays and impossible for the poor guys who picked before her in draft

WoonStruck1 votes

He is broken lol.

He's pick or ban, which means every game he's open, people are jumping to his counters first.

Essentially, he's got a 49.7% win rate against his counters. There's something wrong with that.

Truly Prideful3 votes

Poke champions can beat her up since she has none. Beefy juggernauts can also force her to waste her stun and other cooldowns for your team. Also build MR.

If she's fed, good luck. Enjoy your grey screens.

LaowPing2 votes

She's vulnerable if her stun isn't up. That's the opportunity for to hit her in lane. If she's support she's nothing but utility from her stun which a lot of champs have anyway. If you're ad get a QSS. If you're ap go for abysmal. Unless she's fed she's not too huge of a problem.

Support annie can 100-0 the adc lol

First off, my comment is 10 months old. What are you even doing here? Second, support Annie ain't going to 100-0 anyone unless you fed her like it's Thanksgiving.

Tbh, get to 50 minutes and have annie at 850 ap and Veigar at 1000+ and just ult her. Oh wait, nvm, I forgot veigar is trash tier. rip when a tanky point in click/aoe cone mage has higher scaling and an easy stun.

Prospector Pete3 votes

Veigar is far from trash tier. His E is a tad bit harder to land, but his new Q is absolutely amazing. When I play him I can get up to about 1400 AP. Before the changes, I would get up to about 1100.

Veigar's ultimate has a 1:1 scaling for AP, but it also scales off of 0.8 of the opponents AP.

you cc her first and then you focus her. if you let her go first you're gunna have a bad time.

Truely Fabulous2 votes

Ganks. Her and malz are similar in the sense that they both are hyper strong mages but lack mobility. Call for gank, kill annie, win lane.

IcyPepper2 votes

Shes short range just stay away from her.......flash insta kills me...

Well, to be fair, flash has a high cooldown. If she uses it for a kill (come one, who doesn't flash for a kill from time to time?), she has no escapes. If you have more range, you can bully her.

However, if you can afford to build a defensive item, I highly recommend item 3102 to block the flash+Tibbers combo. If you're AD, item 3156 isn't a bad item either (you could build both if you wanted). If Annie knows you built Banshee's, and you're AP, you can also Zhonyas right after she flashes (if she uses two spells in order to proc your spellshield and then apply a stun), you should have enough time to go into stasis. Tho that requires really good reflexes, so I'd just stick to "Build banshee's if you can afford a defensive item" to keep it simple enough.

TyroneWatermelon2 votes

her counterplay? no mobility squishy high skillcap skillshots who needs mobility when you wreck your lane, escape jungle ganks via point and click stun, and having 5v5 teamfight with tankiness, front line and zhonya, bursting enemy tanks before they damage you

bageli11 112 votes

Tanks are some kind of counter play. So i suggest picking Olaf tank. This is a huge counterplay for Annie

I came to this page because of how thoroughly I was getting destroyed by Annie... while playing Galio.

I think you might need to elaborate. Assuming whatever you had in mind still works after ten months.

Maybe the problem was just that I'm bad at adapting my build path to have more MR in it because I'm a level 28 noob? xD
