And still melting in seconds because they built last whispers

If you have 400 armour, there's no way that a simple last whisper is going to kill you.

That's only going to reduce about 135 armour, so you will still have 265, meaning you have 75% damage reduction still.

Now i'm hoping you have Ninja Tabi's and crit reduction in defense masteries.

Also assuming you have Randiun's and Frozen Heart. Thornmail obviously too.

I mean, you want to hear some bullshit? Is is we just caught a Mundo under a tier 2 tower for longer than 15 seconds, and he didn't die.

Vi charge into a Warrior smite, into a Thresh flay, into a thresh hook, into a thresh ult, into a Vi ult. The entire time taking hits from the tower. That just makes me cry.

Can you not see the issue of a 2,300 gold item removing 3,000 gold worth of armor, and still offering another 1,500 gold worth of attack damage?

The %pen items in this game are so stupidly gold efficient that it hurts. The target only needs 43 armor for Last Whisper to be gold efficient. EDIT: Target needs to lose 43 armor. My bad*

THIS. This is a legitimate gripe. others in the thread are just crying boohoo cuz the AD carry on the enemy team, who spends ALL THEIR GOLD on damage, can deal some fucking damage. meanwhile, some darius in toplane with a Randy omens, hydra, Maw, and boots is crying that he can't face tank a whole enemy team and get a penta.

It actually needs to negate 43 armor. The target needs to have ~120 for it to be gold efficient. It is still a problem, because you have champions that build this counter-armor item who are still really effective at killing a squishy target as well. You don't really sacrafice anything for building to counter armor-stacking, making it a no-brainer purchase.

EDIT: @OP LW on 400 armor gives a whooping 9.4% more damage. 400 armor is really effective at stopping a large portion of physical damage, LW or no.

If you have 400 armor a last whisper will make you lose 1350 hp for each 1000 hp you have so if you have 5000 hp you can take (1350*5=) 6750 less physical damage then against someone without Last whisper

Closer to 7k, leaving you with only 18k effective HP. 18k damage is kinda a lot.

Let's see if you have 400 armor it will take 5 times your hp in physical damage (1+400/100) if you have 265 armor it will take 3.65 times your hp in physical damage (1+365/100)

Without the enemy having last whisper and you have 3000 hp then it will take 15000 physical damage to kill you

if the enemy had last whisper (still at 3000 hp) it would take 10950 physical damage to kill you

(the more armor you have the more effective it is to buy hp as armor/mr is a multiplier of health and the more health you have the better it is to buy armor/mr to get a higher multiplier)

I dont think you did your math right or I didn't do the armor formula right. Armor gives % reduction that begins to slowly give less, with 300 Armor being the max you would ever want without further armor being completely useless unless they have a LW, then about 420 would be. This optimal amount is about 75% physical damage reduction, increasing your health against physical damage by 75%. So someone with 1000 health would have 1750 health against physical damage and someone with 2000 health would have 3500 health against physical damage. 3000 increases to about 5250. 4000 to 7000 although only Rammus can achieve this usually. Same goes for MR. So, you are right building Health is better than Armor at a certain point but your math is off unless I am just stupid.

Champion Skin3 votes

No that is wrong if you have 75% damage reduction and you have 1000 health the enemy needs to deal 4000 damage

25% (how much the enemy deals after it being reduced by 75%) X 4000 = 1000

Each point of armor gives you the same amount of effective hp gain even if the % damage reduction you gain is less

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Armor (for the formula of damage reduction)

The formula for effective health can be seen as Health X (1 + armor/100) = effective health

Out of 400 it is ONLY going to reduce 135 of it. So basically a Last Whisper alone, if you have 400 armor, is only going to completely negate the armor of a thornmail (so a complete items worth of armor) and your ninja tabi (so 2 items worth of armor) AND 10 more.

Or maybe you have a thornmail and a sunfire cape

Those 2 items provide 145 armor

You just lost 135 armor

Congrats, you just paid 4700 gold for 10 armor and the returning damage (which is pointless since you are still taking more now that you have less armor) and at most 43 damage per second IF they are in melee range (at level 18) with sunfire cape

That was negated by only 2300 gold.

A chain vest costs 750 and gives 40 armor

3 of them giving nothing but armor would cost you 2250 and that's 120 armor

So for 2300 gold you negate MORE than 2300 gold worth of stats...plus get 40 AD ...and applies BEFORE armor pen if you have it (runes for example)

Seems balanced >_>

Only 135 armor

Here's some math for you. Let's make Last Whisper less effective by reducing the amount of armour it can penetrate, but not getting any armour.

So, my runes and masteries, and the levels of my champion give me 75 armour, now that Last Whisper "ONLY" removes 27 of it. The amount of protection you get from 2 cloth armors.

So now your cost effective item has only negated 600 gold worth of items, and you spent 2250 on it - using your logic would reduce the effectiveness of the Last Whisper.

But, now granted, you have 10% damage reduction, instead of 75% damage reduction, and everything is hitting you for 90% of what it should hit you for, instead of 25% of what it should hit you for. And the discussion started with 'i'm still getting melted'.

All i'm saying is you'd better have an absurd amount of outgoing damage, if you plan to walk around as a glass cannon.

With my itemization, what are you actually defending against?

Ninja Tabi's = -10% damage taken from basic attacks. That description on your death recap every time you die. The "basic attacks" done to you? Reduce that by 10%. Meh.

Iceborn Gauntlet = Mana, Armour, Ability Power, Cooldown Reduction, and increased damage that slows in a small AoE.

Frozen Heart = Mana, Armour, Cooldown Reduction, and an aura which slows the attack speed of nearby attackers.

Randuin's Omen = Health, Armour, a passive which slows the attack speed of targets that attack you, and an active which slows the movement speed in a small AoE around you, that scales based off the amount of armour or magic resistance you have.

Sunfire Cape = Health, Armour, and an aura that deals magic damage in an AoE around you.

Thornmail = Armour, and a passive which returns damage received as basic attacks, back to the targets.

-10% damage received from basic attacks, as well as 30% damage received as basic attacks reflected towards the attacker. +380 armour from items alone, putting you over the armour cap for armour, meaning if and when people have armour penetration, they have to reduce you to the maximum amount of damage reduction you're allowed. +800 Mana, 60 Ability Power, 30% CDR, and 1,000 Health.

What the OP is honestly missing, is the armour penetration, that is coming from other sources.

I.E. Darius Pull, Black Cleaver - These remove the armour of the individual for all of your teammates, not just yourself. If you have 5 opponents with Last Whispers, and none of them with any additional source of armour penetration, they're strategically retarded.

Now you have a Darius with a Black Cleaver, and your core damage dealers with the Last Whispers. Now you have 85% armour penetration for those attackers, and 50% penetration for those without. Add in a Jarvan 4, and you have 100% armour penetration.

400 Armour x 85% = 340 armour vanished - and now you're left with the amount of armour I first asked you if you'd rather have instead of the 400 armour you complained about not being sufficient.

This isn't even including the 4/6% armour penetration you have from the offensive tree.

Now some ADC's late game will probably do upwards of 2,500 - 4,000 damage per second, depending on who you are. You wouldn't want to migitate as much as of that damage as possible? I don't understand your argument, or your narcissism.

I don't understand your argument, or your narcissism.

First off, what narcissism? Thinking you mean a different word because that word literally doesn't apply to this situation at all as I wasn't talking about myself, wasn't talking about anything involving myself, and was directly talking numbers and costs based on the figured the two posts I was responding to (two as in yours and the one you were talking about as far as the 400 Armor was concerned). So...again think you meant a different word.

Secondly, my argument was, you were making it sound like 135 armor being lost from a single item wasn't that big of a deal saying it was only 135 armor, which is why I specifically replied to that part of the post and didn't quote the rest.

The argument was....one item negating 135 armor is a pretty big deal and not something to blow off as it seemed you were stating in your argument in your previous post (especially the part I directly responded to) hence why I showed numbers of the items and costs etc etc.

So...I'm more so not understanding where you are confused as I was pretty straight forward, not as if I was throwing around examples or talking about specific games etc, just numbers and very simple math and gold costs. What about that confused you?

Edit: Also half your post seems to not even be in direct comparison to mine as my entire post was specifically talking about having 400 armor against Last whisper using the -135 armor you brought up. It sounded more like you were trying really hard to throw around a lot of what ifs to negate what I said by saying stuff like "let's make last whisper less effective" but I wasn't talking about more than 400 armor or less than 400 armor, I was talking specifically about the 400 armor. Perhaps you should go back and read my post and what I was commenting on.

We both know that Last Whisper penetrates a percentage of the target's armour, meaning that it scales linearly however low or high your target decides to build their armour.

So if all you're building is armour (you're against an entire team of AD champions), then yes it's going to penetrate a value higher than 1 slot item, because it scales linearly. Same thing, that being said, if you aren't building armour it's going to penetrate a value lower than a 1 slot item, because it scales linearly.

LW is core on just about every AD champion, because you linearly gain armour every level (correct me if i'm wrong...for every champion, minus Thresh) A good portion of the player-base is going to have armour in their runes, and if they're a defensive type of champion, probably armour in their masteries. So without actually running numbers for each and every game, it's quite literally safe to say, that a LW will be a cost effective item - and you really can't go wrong with it.

Now if nobody had any armour on your team, in theory, it would be a waste of an item, because it wouldn't hold the same amount of value as a Black Cleaver - one that penetrates flat, and a percentage, and gives more damage, a good amount of health, and CDR.

But even though LW scales linearly, you can still build enough armour, so that it doesn't reduce your reduction below your maximum amount.

This is why the meta is built around stacking forms of penetration.

Vi, Jarvan 4, Darius, Xin Zhao, Nasus, Rammus, Yasuo, etc.

You stack two of these guys together, with an ADC, add in a Black Cleaver, and an LW, and you're going to be penetrating a hell of a lot of armour.

LW honestly isn't even the worst offender, it's the fact that you can stack the penetration from multiple sources that is hard to overcome.

Just a side note, but Darius's E passive is armor penetration. Armor Penetration is a buff, and is personal only.

Armor Reduction is a debuff, and effects all incoming physical damage regardless of the source.

Champions with Armor Reduction in their kits:

Percent Reduction: J4, Jayce, Kayle, Kog, Renek, Sion, Trundle, Urgot, Vi, Wukong and Xin Flat Reduction: Corki, Nasus, Rammus and Taric

And as a matter of fact BoTRK is the problem, not LW Adjust BoTRK to 6% of current health as physical damage on hit and the situation is solved

ArkenStorm1 votes

Take out the ctive on it as well. I had an idea for it, it would build out of vamp scepter, recurve bow and dagger. 50% AS, 6% current health on hit as physical damage, +10 AD and +10% lifesteal.

I was brainstorming and came up with a phage item that had the current bork active moved to it

Ale non è male1 votes

Nah. The active is fine because BoTRK must remain the anti-tank item-, so a component that work upon max health is ok. The problem is that right now the passive is so powerful that who has BoTRK can kill very fast also the ones that have little max health because the first hit are too pwerful even against them

ArkenStorm1 votes

you mean the passive that works on current health on basic attacks that is better in 2 autos, because lifesteal? and you can also stay farther out of range. even without the active it works as an anti tank item. the problem is that its TOO STRONG against tanks, tanks are supposed to be able to build health and stuff to counter that, but when it does % health it doesn't really matter a whle lot.

Ale non è male1 votes

But the problem IS the passive, not the active. the active is fine as Botrk is an anti-health item, the passive is not as tanks are completely discouraged to build health because the passive is too powerful and make useless all the gold spent in defensive items by them, basically putting them out of the meta(and the only tanks that remained viable were the tanks that work on resistences ala Rammus)

ArkenStorm1 votes

ok, then remove the passive(put it on another item i.e that phage item I brainstormed), buff the active range slightly, so it can't instantly wreck tanks.

Ale non è male1 votes

Wut? I love tanks, but I don't think we should be back to the time where Mundo ruled completely the world. An item like BoTRK (+ a decent AD item with Grevious Wounds) is needed to keep him in check And active damage was lowered in 4.10 because they wanted to took BoTRK out from assassins hands and hand it out more in general to autoattackers. This is fine, but the problem is that those AAs are TOO strong now Passive and active does not need to be separated, the passive need to be nerfed

ArkenStorm1 votes

I want executioner's calling back. give it ad and lifesteal, make it a vamp scepter instead of avarice blade, have it be +50 AD and 10% lifesteal and grievous wounds.

Maybe bork nerfs go like this: passive on-hit reduced to 5% current health. active the same. everything else the same, except maybe only 20 ad, but idk.

Ale non è male1 votes

An item with Grevious Wounds is never going to have as much as 50 AD, imho

GW is effective against every champ, not only tanks, and give a massive amount of AD alongside it would make it OP on ADC hands as enemy could never have chane to heal back from ADc damage if his healing is permanently halved(exec's stats were purposedly keep it low to avoid that everyone ran with permanent GW in every game)

Find a formula to reintroduce GW on an item is difficult, cause GW is very powerful and pair it with some other powerful stats would just make it too unbalanced...I don't know, maybe took AS away from BoTRK along with the passive on-hit reduced and put on it GW?

Not quite. Plenty of items and abilities in the game work off of % health damage. So if you start stacking one instead of the other it's nothing at all for them to itemize against you just as easily. Plus, chances are that if they're building a LW you already have about 200 armor or so. Selling it for pure health items makes it all a waste and sets you behind, which is just as bad. Probably worse. And a LW is still effective against armor however much they might have. Even if you only have 100 armor it's still penetrating a third of it. It's still gonna let them kill you that much quicker.

Well, I'm only talking about a direct counter to LW, nothing else here.

That's the thing, though. There is no direct counter to LW because it's directly countering the two things that would help you survive it. The %armor penetration negates any armor you've build, while the additional AD negates any extra health you've built. All an AD champion needs to build to completely eliminate a tank, bruiser, or fighter's defenses is a LW because it simply makes the two stats that you'd build as a tank entirely useless against it.

The counter for LW would be either % health bonus, which is something that they gave Crest of the Ancient Golem near the end of the old jungle's life in season 4, or a % armor bonus, which I think would be much more helpful in most cases although harder to balance. If it gave, say, 25% bonus armor, you could build one of those and have the LW instead only penetrating the equivalence of 10% of your armor. That drastically reduces it's usefulness while still contributing to an AD champion's DPS to let them fight without letting you be completely helpless. A new stat that functions as a resistance to reduction/penetration effects would also do well here, but introducing an entirely new stat is no easy task however nice it may sound in theory.

Best combo's vs AD are probaly:

  • item 3143item 3068
  • item 3075item 3083
  • item 3110item 3083

Don't go item 3143 & item 3110 in the same build. In most cases it's not worth it.

But I can agrea after the changes to item 3083. It's really difficult to main the effectiveness from those 2 combo's.

What I could do than is:

item 3075item 3143item 3068 than follow with a health/mr item. They will always deal some magic damage with items like item 3087item 3153: item 3065 vs overal magic damage, item 3102 with a lot of ad casters, item 3026 vs burst. Else I would just build more damage.

or (when vs heavy poke AD team)

item 3110item 3083item 3065item 3075

If you're playing as a nasus top vs an all ad comp. item 3025 item 3083 item 3110 item 3143 item 3047 item 3075

Spam laugh.

The only guy that can exect to dive into a 1v5 and survive(assuming no ignite is present) is this guy DrMundo You are not supposed to be immortal as a tank. You are just supposed to survive the first 3-5 sec of full brust damage while your carries deal the damage. You are supposed to insulate 1 or 2 enemy champs while you suck the damage for the rest of the enemy team making team fights into 2 smaller skirmish that re 2v4 and you vs. 3. You die, while 2 red dies. Then is a total 4v3 which your team should win.
