I just realized this entire game is based on high risk/high reward

That's why Korean players seem so damn good. Some that come into mind here are Faker, inSec, and Uzi. And based on what I've seen from Korean streams (Cowsep comes into mind, although technically he isn't a 'Korean' streamer, although that is his primary server and where he lives) and the OGN that Riot airs at like 2-3 AM (Night Owl OP).

Basically though, unlike a lot of NA and EU players, Koreans play so risky. Literally every kill in Korea is A) Intentional feeding (Koreans will rage quit in soloQ for almost no reason, EXTREMELY common actually). B) Some made a huge play. C) Some messed up a huge play.

In most cases, an average player would think "Man, 4 enemies under tower with about 1/4 hp, I probably shouldn't dive the four could burst me down," whereas Faker or even some NA players like BoxBox would go "Fuck it YOLO amirite?"

So what I've learned from Koreans is, if you think you might be able to slightly possible barely pull it off, it's worth trying, you're either gonna fail and just look like a normal person, or succeed and look like an absolute god.

TL;DR: Koreans taught me to YOLO

High risk/High reward you say?

OK, if that's what you believe sure. You are entirely wrong though. This game has always been around High safety/Low weakness, and anyone (yourself included) who says otherwise does not have a modicum of knowledge about the professional scene. Champions like Zed, J4, Vi, Lee, Ahri, Jax, Ryze, Janna, Thresh, the list goes on and on, are picked because they have few to no weaknesses, and can be effective at all stages of the game due to the safety of their kit.

While champions like Zed are allowed to exist in their current iteration, you would be insane to suggest that there is risk in competitive play.

High risk high reward are champs like Yi, Morde, Nasus, Shaco etc.

Not Lee, Nid, Thresh, Zed etc.

I fear you learned it wrong, this game in the higher level of play has always been about picking the safest while most rewarding champion possible, disguising it as "high risk high reward", which in reality it's "low risk high reward". Also whenever there is a champion who became broken OP due to the last changes, he/she instantly becomes the top picks in tourneys.

The actual high risk high reward is generally sporting lower pick rates due to the risks involved, making successes really uncertain, and also for the fact that they are generally less rewarding than some low risk picks with everything considered. Hence why meta and top picks are so dominating in this game, they are not there without reasons.

Yes I said it, Yi is high risk high reward.

Why?

Unless he is stupidly fed, he dies to anything under 1 second if it's fired in his general direction.

There are only a total of 2 cases where he actually shines, either he gets extremely fed through whatever means or the match reaches super late game **under the condition **that nobody saw him slipping into the middle of the team hacking people's arse away.

He also doesn't get any kind of reliable escape once he is in the heat of the battle, so he can't just simply disengage when shiet hits the fan. And when you factor in his rough early and the fact he has 0 cc, you would get that his quest to snowball himself isn't exactly pleasant.

You may laugh about how "noob champ" he is, it doesn't change the fact that outside of blatant lowest elo range where people don't remember to watch out for him at all, he is pretty darn high risk and high reward.

You are right. Yi is high risk hi reward. Most of the snowbally champions are. But people don't fully understand what "high risk high reward" are. Example. so many people try to say Lee Sin is HRHR. But he is SO safe that he has very little risk.

I can't fuckin' believe it. You've convinced me. I've never even thought to look at it that way.

What I've learned, is they are not any better individually than the best players in other regions. They just have better teamwork when together. Not like all these Korean imports/exports are tearing it up on their new teams.
