Kalista's Sentinels give assists

Visigoth··183 votes·5,627 views

Why? No other vision gives assists. Your ward is the only reason you saw them and could auto? Nah, no assists. Twisted Fate ultimate? Nah. Blue trinket? Nah. So why does Kalista's bullshit sentinels give assists?

I hate Kalista, too. So much.

You may be in Europe (at least, according to the forums), and I in America, but we are together in our hatred of Kalista.

This isn't a problem with Kalista, it's a problem with everyone else. Getting vision is important. While I'm the first person to lead the charge against Kalista's bullshit, let's call it as it is, and that is a failure on Riot to properly reward good teamplay from vision granting abilities.

Retillin6 votes

Yes and no. I agree it's a failure, but why is this champ able to do it but not bother to work on the other champs that do it?

No, they don't? Kalista is just full of dumb perks.

I swear i thought they did...

I swear when CertianlyT makes a champ, he sits there and goes "okay, what can this champ not do yet?"

yeah, ive always wondered why Riot leaves gaps like this open... you can skirmisher smite someone and not hit them once after that and if they die by someone else, you dont get an assist, but kalista W does?

I've ignited someone before and not gotten an assist.........

sure did assist by diana autoing it :)

SouL1ess13 votes

Because it attaches a debuff on the enemy, therefore the system counts that as an active assist.

Wards and other things doesn't attach a debuff so therefore it is a passive assist.

disregardable13 votes

If that was true, Warwick's Blood Scent (his E that reveals champions in a certain range) would grant assists. It's an inconsistency in the game.

Ratbert4 votes

Actually, to be fair, it's a passive part of his skill, while kalista does have to set out the sentinel. But then tf ult should grant assists so i'm not sure.

IGotScuttleCrabs2 votes

This^ it's the slow debuff. If all vision gave assists people would drop a ward in a teamfight just to pad their KDA. TF could ult in a fight he was no where near and get points for it. Same for other abilities. And to code it so only revealing an enemy would probably be a nightmare worse than laning againts Kalista as Mordekaiser.

Not sure where everyone get the idea Kalista's sentinel have a slow.

Do you people even play this game to talk about stuff like this?

Okay, that is complete bullshit and I agree, OP.

Personally i think all vision should give assists

Adc extraneous power. Only adcs are allowed to have it.

Ashe has vision. Why does that not grant assists?

fixed.

Because it isn't JUST vision. It is a reveal, which is a debuff on the champion being killed.

I'd agree that it probably SHOULDN'T give assists, but I'm guessing that's why it does.

Twisted Fate's ult reveals and debuffs enemies. doesn't give assist.

Hellpyre1 votes

It used to, way back when assists first became a thing. IIRC, Riot decided after that that instant global abilities (and some exceptionally long-ranged passives like WW) needed to be coded not to give assists to prevent then from tagging enemies as soon as a fight happened somewhere and guaranteeing gold.

IcyPepper4 votes

Soraka can do it, and I... um, I abuse it sometimes. >.>

Supports need gold too!

Gangplank I don't see anything wrong with that.

But Nidalee's trap does.

Because CertainlyT's champions are designed to be without flaws. It's not a CertainlyT champion if she isn't perfect and capable in just about every aspect.

Basically this. I was really surprised to learn today that Thresh's Q leap can be used immediately if he hooks a minion or monster (normally it has a 0.5 second delay before you can activate it). On any other champion the ability to use that spell for escape would be coincidental/a nice touch that goes along with the general use of the spell, but Thresh's Death Leap has a clause built into it specifically designed to make it better than it would otherwise be at being an escape. Because that's necessary.

All of his champions get every bit of help they can be given.

So why does Kalista's bullshit sentinels give assists?

Because she's a perfectly designed and healthy champion. Kappa

CertainlyT champ OP.

Zair Umbras3 votes

I'm going to guess it's because Kalista's Sentinels are actually pets who 'attack' so to speak. It is weird how TF's ult doesn't give assists and that's been an issue forever since TF's ult does in fact pop Banshee's while most reveals like Kalista's Sentinel, CV/Blue Trinket, Rengar's R, and WW's E, don't. Every other reveal does pop it since they're actually casted on the person. Some abilities just aren't known to pop spell shields. I'd guess it's because TF's ult gives immediate vision of the person that can be lost if the person manages to remove the debuff or simply not be hit by it. It's a semi-targetted ability rather than an AOE like most.

Back on topic though, some abilities should give assists. Kalista's W is useful and does provide actual vision. Blue trinket and CV would be far too abusable due to low CD's, much like Rengar's R or the constant effect of WW's E. TF on the other hand should get assists since his reveal is on a 180 (Down to 120 at max rank) long CD. That's 3 minutes. Once every three minutes you'd have to waste your R to get an assist on a kill you wouldn't have participated in. I don't know about most, but I use TF's ult to gank and he goes a damn good job at it so unless you're going to be THAT TF who never uses his ult to help and just sits and farms mid lane for the first 20 minutes, then it's not going to change much other than giving him assists where it should count, like when you pop your R for vision on the enemy team because they're doing Dragon or Baron, but you're not in range to teleport in yet. You gave the team that vision. Unlike Rengar's R or WW's E, TF's ult gives vision in a RADIUS around the target and will even show Wards and other invisible targets. Rengar's R and WW's just shows the enemy and a minuscule amount of vision around them.

All in all? I'm fine with Kalista's W giving assists IF they let TF's R finally get the respect it deserves. If you can pop a Banshee's with it, you should get an assist.

Durzaka2 votes

I understand wards not giving assists (at least technically).

As for TFs ult, that is specifically to stop it being used to grab assists with no contribution (hey bot lanes gonna get a double, ult. haha free 200 gold).

Does hawkshot or Quinns vision give assists?

Zair Umbras3 votes

TF's R is on a three minute CD base, going down to a two minute CD at max. You're punished heavily if you use it for anything but ganking or providing vision for your team at a strategic time. TF's ult is his Assassination tool, his ganking tool, his only mobility, his escape, and above all, it's his true utility that he brings to the game. The damn thing reveals wards and Teemo shrooms if people are within 100-200 units of such an invisible thing. Rengar's R, WW's E, CV/Blue trinket, etc. aren't going to give you that kind of stuff and they're on super short CD's, especially in comparison to TF's HUGE cool down that also costs 100 mana, which early on is far too costly due to TF having a poor laning phase against anyone who can out range him or anyone who can 100-0 him since he has no mobility, no escape, no defenses, nothing. If he uses his R to get an assist for 80-100g rather than going top or bot for a double kill or such as well as making himself vulnerable due to having less mana? Well, GG 'cause that TF is now useless in lane and for the next three minutes, he's a complete non-threat on the map.

Soraka can... and her ult actually do something to help the fight (TF ult not so much usually unless he actually joins the fight that is.. but well then the change wouldn't matter)

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

Implying granting true sight to your allies is never helpful?

Champion Skin1 votes

It usually isn't very useful for when you use it just to snipe an assist however healing is a little more useful as well it has some use until they back (well if they aren't at full HP that is)

The sentinel does not slow...

Where do people get this idea?

DarkFaun Fortes1 votes

Kalistas Sentalnals have a SLOW! No other vission dose. It's the Slow that assists, not the vision.

FirstSergeantBim5 votes

Not true. Kalista's Sentinels reveal the enemy target providing true sight. True sight is a debuff and counts towards assists.

Zair Umbras3 votes

Not TF's ult or Rengar's R that also give truesight. Rengar's is understandable due to the spammy nature, but everything else does extra stuff with the exception of Zyra's plant pod. It's mostly unknown if her pods actually give assists due to the nature of them. It's highly unlikely that people step on them due to them only lasting for 30s and most who stand near a pod eat one of her Q's or E's.

No real reason why TF's doesn't though. His even breaks Banshee's so why it doesn't give assists is beyond me. People have complained for at least three years.

FirstSergeantBim1 votes

There definitely are some inconsistencies in which type of reveal will provide an assist and which won't. I'm not going to try to argue for or against any of them, I just wanted to point out why that guy was wrong. They don't slow, they reveal. The reveal works a little differently than TF and Rengar's R, so that might be why they are not providing assists.

Zair Umbras1 votes

It uses the same style of reveal, except it won't pop a Banshee's. Neither does Rengar's or any other reveal that doesn't provide something more than an extra. As of this very moment, there's only 4 True Sight reveals that only reveal for a debuff. Zyra's W, Rengar's R, TF's R, and Kalista's W. All the others, like Talon's E and Nidalee's passive and even Fizz's R, do something more than just reveal. They add damage, slow, require you to do damage to the person, etc.

It's understandable why Rengar's R doesn't give assists, but I mean... TF's R even breaks Banshee's and it doesn't count as an assist. lol

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

TF's ult used to give assists. They later modified it not to. But that's why it can pop a banshee's but not give an assist.

Rengar's was probably following that trend, but has newer coding.

Zair Umbras1 votes

TF's ult hasn't given assists in a VERY long time and when it DID give assists, it actually slowed the enemies. That was also back when his E was called 'Gate', which is the secondary effect of his R currently. That was a very, very long time ago. Like... that was 2010. lol.
