You can get +26% additional damage with masteries
"wtf guys, why people die fast in league"
2% from sorcery 7% from bounty hunter 3% from exposed weakness 7% from penetration 2% from assassin 5% from merciless

3% additional damage was what you used to get for 21 points in a tree.
Just FYI.
Also defensive masteries weren't among the worst in the game. Tanks didn't need broken stuff like CoC to function. They often weren't overbearing either, outside of a few items that were easily tuned.
There were a few OP defensive Masteries in the past, like the % Missing Health Regeneration one.
It wasn't a problem until Riot doubled the regen for no reason.
I'm pretty sure that was one mastery alone?
It was. The cap mastery was a 3% damage increase. The rest were minor attack speed, AP, AD, minor % pen, and various other small perks.
Then your comment's slightly misleading
3% additional damage was what you used to get for 21 points in a tree.
All those things you mention does increase damage...
There is a difference in "gives some %ap, so potentially pretty good" and straight "%damage + %damage + %damage" straight up. Very very very different.
I don't know why the fuck masteries need any of this. It makes every champion way strong and champions that can't use them, well fuck them right?
yeh i mean why does a lvl 3 lee do 80% of my hp in one gank. kappa
7% penetration is not a 7% increase in damage.
You forgot to mention on defense tree you can get a mastery that gives up to 50+ armor and mr when you get hit and %max health shield.
Thats just with 2 points.
Both of those are temporary bonuses while most of the damage amplifications are near constantly active.
While Fearless and Courage of the Colossus are both rather strong, they are pretty much the only useful defensive masteries in the Resolve tree and they are trying to counter-balance the existence of two offensive trees (Ferocity and Cunning).
If the Resolve Tree was better balanced as a whole (or there weren't two full trees of damage amplifiers), those masteries wouldn't need to be quite as powerful to compensate.

Problem is, most offensive champs can get all the good shit from the resolve tree anyhow. Siege master and fearless is the only good thing there.
yeah let me take those masteries with Sona
ty budy
Don't you have Windspeaker's?
yes, and that's why i die in 0.5 second
on mid lane sona though i take thunderlord
also didnt mention burst damage mastery and burn damage over time mastery and stacking ad mastery which more directly complement the ones you are talking about
Has Riot talked about Masteries as a whole yet? This sounds like a bit of a problem.
They just noticed the problem with Junglers and Bot lane lol I doubt they've even noticed we still have Masteries in the game at this point.
Sorcery works on ability only Bounty hunter requires you to kill all 5 opponents Exposed weakness is for allies only 7% penetration is no %additional damage at all, what the? Assassin requires the enemy to be alone and it's absolutely trash (even Riven goes Cookie usually) Merciless works only when <40% maxHP
You are being missleading and you know it.
exposed weakness is taken by supports and some junglers like zac
I know that they have conditions, but it doesn't matter because it can multiplie your damage by a LOT and this is what causes damage creep
i didn't say "OH LOOK GUY YOU GET FREE 26% BONUS DAMAGE WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING", i said you can potientially get 26% bonus damage which is retarded because damage creep right now is retarded
You said you can get 26% additional damage, which isn't true.
The 7% through penetration isn't increasing your damage by 7%, it's making your damage go through either their Armor or Magic Resist by 7%, which doesn't translate to "7% more damage".
I certainly agree that masteries add to much damage amplification, but i still have to say it: 7% penetration IS NOT the same as 7% increased damage !!!
If you are talking EHP, then each point of resistance adds 1% EHP, therefore, 7 armor pen means your target has 7% less physical EHP, and the same goes for MR and magic pen. In actuality, against targets with 100+ armor/magic resist 7% pen will add more than 7% increased damage after mitigation.
Show the math please?
edit: nvm, read 260% more damage xd
actually its more like close to 40% if you count the keystones.

[zombie-brand-facepalm]
fervor gives 60 ad. 4% attack speed. 7.5% damage from a keystone. 3% more damage to allies. armor penetration . its a pretty good estimate.
If you are just going on overall damage output, fine, maybe.
However, we are talking solely about damage multiplier effects here.
But tanks op right?
A full AD
at 6 items killed me as
when I had a
. Nerf tanks pls rito :^(
Colossus is a shied that functions while enemies cant attack you. on a longer cooldown than a lux ult late game. why is is op again? Vi courage you cant even get through her passive sheild to touch the CoC sheild its 300% wasted
"The new masteries aren't intended to give -invisible power- or simply -free stats- but to give meaningful choices that compliment what your champion is already doing"
Ah, so since I'm doing damage, the masteries are just giving me a lot more damage. That makes sense.
ummm...
exposed weakness works like this: you hit a enemy with a damaging ability and then an ally (and only an ally, you can't trigger the bonus by yourself) can deal 3% increased bonus damage. This lasts for 3 seconds.
now that's fine and dandy, but you included 2% from assassin.
Assassin works like this: if no allied champions are near you, gain 2% increased damage.
which is a bit contradictory. I guess you could have like a xerath across the map trigger it with rite of the arcane (while you are alone beating some guy up), but that's very specific and weird.
also the other increases are somewhat conditional. bounty hunter is assuming you've killed all 5 enemy champions at least once, sorcery only works on abilities, I don't think %penetration translates equally to a %global damage increase (and it can only boost one damage type magic/physical), and merciless only works on targets below a health threshold.
Don't forget, if the enemy has double edged sword, he takes 2.5% extra damage too.
No you can't. Not with 30 points. That's total from all trees, and most of that % damage is situational. You're misleading people and they're blindly accepting it
2% from sorcery 7% from bounty hunter 3% from exposed weakness 7% from penetration 2% from assassin 5% from merciless
ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLL
[deleted]
then it's even worse, if you do the math you will find more than 26% if it's multiplicatively
1x1.02 x1.07 x1.03 x1.07x1.02x1.05=1.288233008
it ends up with 28.8% damage increase
Dude are you stupid? PENETRATION IS NOT DAMAGE AMPLIFICATION. YOU CAN'T MULTIPLY THE TWO.
Bounty hunter is 7.5% at max stacks, not 7%.
Expose weakness and assassin are essentially mutually exclusive. And you can't proc expose weakness by yourself. YOU NEED SOME OTHER DUDE TO DO IT FOR YOU
And you forget all these masteries are CONDITIONAL AS FUCK1.
You would be a lot less useless if you find out the average case damage increase, not some retarded fairyland hypothetical situation that never happens (which you did wrong anyways).
PENETRATION IS NOT DAMAGE AMPLIFICATION
I guess I just imagined when Talon did more damage to me when he brought armor pen runes
Retards smh
smh your username says it all, the toxicity
It amplifies the damage, but it doesn't count as a % damage multiplier, is what I think he's saying.
For example, let's imagine I had 100% armor pen. That isn't a 100% increase overall for my physical damage; if the enemy had 200 armor, it would effectively be a 200% increase, and if the enemy had 50 armor, it would be a 50% damage increase.
"Dude are you stupid?"
Are you? lol
Smh haters gonna hate. Can't argue with being right.
I know an entire four community that would happily prove that statement wrong. ;p
How do you propose that you get the 2% from assassin (which requires you to be alone basically) and get 3% from expose weakness (that requires someone else with the mastery do damage to your target) without them using some long range ability to tag an enemy? Gloabal ADC ults, Lux, Ziggs, Gang P. etc. can help with this. I suspect that when you get Expose W. in most cases you will lose assassin damage.
Bit off on the 7% penetration, which I assume you mean battering blows and piercing thoughts. This is considerably variable. 7% pen vs a target with less than 100 respective resist dosnt get 7% more damage. Where as champs with more than 100 are affected more by this. Infact an ADC with 30 MR has just 2.1 MR penetrated by 7% piercing thoughts.
Im not trying to shit on your point though. I agree that damage creep is a real thing and a bit of a problem... All Im saying is that some of your numbers are a bit fuzzy there.
Lastly, because its not a solid analysis of the numbers just some percents thrown up, some not very accurate, we cant have a real discussion on damage creep based on this post. If the number representation isnt accurate, we wont have a red coming in here making a response because like I did, they will have to spend a lot of time unpacking inaccuracies presented... and theyre not going to bother. Either the presentation is clean and discussion worthy, or it is avoided.
Side note. If I had done a breakdown on damage creep and how masteries have gotten a little to much kill potential in them recently, it would have been like 10 paragraphs with lots of in depth details on various masteries. No one would have read it, much less get 40+ upvotes, so I guess theres that.
