It's great on ezreal, but overall I really don't think it makes a huge difference. It does not give much ap or mana (compared to lich bane), and the aoe damage it deals really is not great (especially with the super tiny aoe radius). It does make his early game and mid game better, but it doesn't make him unstopable (top lane cinderhulk before the nerfs was more beneficial). As well he is really the only champion (aside from maybe diana) who would benefit from the item. It is not being abused like top cinderhulk was (more champions benefited from cinderhulk than those who would from runeglaive). As well Ezreal really does not benefit from smite. You never really want to be in range to smite. Chilling smite is okay on him because it gives you a slightly better chance at escaping if you get jumped on (I haven't really found it to help too much) and ranger's is okay because it gives him wave clear which he is lacking, but with ranger's he doesn't have any combat summoners and will not help him survive in the long run.

It would stupid on riot's part to nerf ezreal or runeglaive because people are using it mid. It makes a champion viable, but not overpowered.

Also I wonder if riot ever thinks that maybe a win rate might go up when something new is discovered because more people are playing themwhich possibly means that the champion is in more winning games?

How is creatively making another fun playstyle more viable ruining a JG item? According to leagueofgraphs.com, Flas/Smite Ezreal scores 48% in Plat+ and 47% in Diamond+ so it's nothing overwhelming (especially considering that most people playing it are advanced Ezreal players). Riot has ignored AP Ezreal for a long time and left it in a state that was basically unviable unless you were an absolute god with him.

All AP Ezreal has is damage after 2-3 items. He is probably the only champion in the game with no CC and his damage is virtually all tied to narrow skillshots. His pushing power is still weak and your roaming is pretty bad too. You also give up a SS and need even more time to scale to make use of Runeglaive (an item that ultimately is only 40 AP and 30% Sheen AP scaling). There are many mids like Zed, Syndra or Katarina who can easily take advantage of this.

You know Riot isn't going to allow AP Runeglaive Ezreal to be a viable choice in the long run. Did you not read the quote?

First of all, it's optimal in a niche off-build not his main role and this isn't an issue for other champions. Secondly, "keeping an eye" isn't the same as removing the interaction. Moreover, Ezreal still has a weak early-mid game and limited pushing power. He basically comes online ~25-30 minutes (unless fed) and starts to fall off a bit around 45+ min when they have locket and multiple BVs.

Either way, he needs clear buffs if they remove the Runeglaive path.

Now they're removing the spell effect proc. Looks like I was right.
