No longer do I need to change my build to something stupid to take advantage of having an Ornn on my team when I'm playing 
This is a great change. Riot finally fixed Ornn. However, they still need to add a 
Spirit Visage upgrade for the tanks/bruisers. If they did this Ornn would be perfect.

They should just give him a smaller shield and encourage shield bash instead of demolish

But I wonder how much better off he'll be with the increased armour and MR from his passive.

Depends. His passive now has a built in MR/Armor booster, (15%), and his Armor and Mag Resist growth per level grew by one.
His itemization might change a little, but I see potential to tank just as much damage.
Personally, I think I might have fun with 
or something. That'd be some insane Mana to fuel the Muramana, which can pump up Q and his post Brittle autos. Maybe a 
in there somewhere.
