Just curious,I realise its experimental but I'm just curious to know why

Sona players on the board whine that her E and W aren't strong enough without realizing how much their team benefits from teamwide buffs. Riot is responding by trying to make the auras strong enough that players who don't understand auras will think they're strong.

Tl;dr: Constant whining about being "so immobile" and "so squishy".

I would argue that E needs a little buff to some extent, a ~15% movespeed buff on a fairly long CD just seems unimpressive.

Though otherwise it's just the community that won't stop crying about how "weak" she is since they don't know the importance of well-timed AoE buffs to her team.

"weak", but when's the last time she was considered good by anyone that was actually good at this game or considered a strong pick in the meta without there being major balancing concerns either with her or her itemization? Only people that tell me Sona's strong are people that are lower elo than me (and I'm basically a low Plat level player scraping his way back to Plat...again). Anyone higher elo than me has never told me she was good ever.

Or because she requires a very specific matchup to excel? That "very specific matchup" doesn't happen as much anymore especially higher up, and therefore people blindly believed that she is "weak". Talk about meta shifts after season 4 because tanks are what's tough against Sona, not just those backline mages anymore.

Hell, we can apply this line to nearly every "weak" champ today if that's the case, like Lulu support. She has "never seen play", and therefore must be weak, right? Even with competent teammates and in the right hands? No, because "she is never played higher up".

Come on, you should know better, and not be this generic.

Except I'm not being generic. I'm not saying I'm a Master player or anything, but if you really think on it, there isn't a time where Sona's generally useful or desired...period. Disengage has its stars. Engage has its stars. Even damage dealing support options has its stars. Sona's lacking in everything and doesn't provide her own thing to suggest picking her over anyone else for just about any situation. You could say she requires specific match-ups, but in her "good" match-ups her opponents can still play around her due to one thing or another, and in her bad match-ups she can be completely ran over if the enemy has match-up knowledge. Anyone she's plain stronger than in the support role at this point is either some dark horse pick sent bot lane like Poppy, Trundle, or Shen...or is just weak in the support role period. On that point, when DOES someone use Sona, anyway? Janna can peel people hard if Sona lands her ult without hitting her, hard-engage supports send her running for the hills, Braum blocks the number 1 thing Sona does, Soraka's positioning puts her well out of Sona's reach and heals all her damage, Morgana's E makes Sona's R useless and her Q dooms her if she's hit, Zyra is a low-key nightmare for Sona due to her high damage, and now Brand's getting some of that too...there's a shit ton of bad for Sona, but there's rarely a time someone says "Yup, I'm going for Sona. This is the match-up!". If you said that about Sona at that point, you could probably do just as much on a good deal of other picks while still having far better play-making/stopping potential than you would if you used Sona.

As for the Lulu comment...yes...yes you CAN very much say that about Lulu. People see what support Lulu offers, realize they can either get that and more or just compensate for it by picking someone else, and she continues to stay fallen off in the support role. Fortunately for Lulu, she can flex to solo lanes where she can focus on keeping herself alive, and now she's useful again. You can look at Lulu's stats and see her support stats are outshined by her solo lane stats rather consistently. To make things worse, Riot's nerfs to Lulu are making her solo laning worse, but they aren't putting anything into her supporting role to compensate, so she's just losing efficiency as a champ overall. Just cause I focus on my favorite champ doesn't mean I don't think yours can't use some serious attention...as well as a few others. -> Nunu Teemo

Are they helping her or are they making her worse?

Looks like it's forcing Sona to stick closer to intended targets for a bigger bang.

Strictly speaking, it's a nerf to her early laning phase and a buff past level 7. The overall team fighting effect seems more ambiguous to me. She loses safety of positioning for greater scaling, though the massive buff to E may make that tradeoff largely irrelevant.

Honestly, I wonder if this would push Sona more into the middle lane if it goes through as things currently stand.

Sona's not going to go mid ever, she lacks the waveclear she'd need to control waves at all. If her Q had a mini AOE ala Karma she'd definitly be better mid than support, but it doesn't so she's too easy to just shove under her tower.

If Sona was going to see lane play my bet would actually be top lane. It sounds very weird but if the whole tank-top thing were to die down a bit and the lane were to shift to a very specific set of mages and somewhat less mobile bruisers she'd be able to function there with her new 30% 1 point wonder speed boost. She'd also be able to at least somewhat control waves with a D-Blade and AD runes just by virtue of being ranged.

This would require a shift towards a specific set of champs though. She'd probably love it if a champ like Riven, who can't gapclose instantly and relies entirely on melee to function became popular again, because her 30% movespeed boost may actually outpace Riv's dashes.

It's still a super long-shot, but we are talking about solo lane Sona here, so it's probably always going to be. The only thing I could see helping her mid lane out is the new Ice Gun thing helping her waveclear, but I feel like that's just fixing a problem after it stops being a problem.

Kinda hating that Riot's answer to all supports is to slash their range.
