Riot ether has too much pride to admit their mistake, or have too many conflicting views internally that they are deadlocking.

Riot obviously put a lot of work into the new queue system, but they failed to predict how it would pan out. I can only hope they can use the data from this to construct a solid system for Season 7, but at the moment, ranked is bleeding.

This is a comment i can agree with. And i hope and believe that S7 will be much better after they have made alot of changes and adjustments. These are comments regarding the topic that i actually want to read and can agree with, rather than those comments doing nothing but insulting Riot for their mistakes, those people forget what Riot actually brought them in the first place, a good free game.

The problem with Riot is their stubborness. Besides, changing back to soloQ so far in the season would be awkward. I only hope they will make it better next season.

It's always stubbornness. Like when it comes to certain things like sandbox and champion design there's more open dialogue but very very often they have a team of a few people who are refusing to accept criticism and are swearing its perfect and they will refuse to revert if there are issues and they'll instead try to come up with a unique solution even if the old version was better than any of them in the first place. They do this every year with at least one of their projects whether its a rework, a new feature... lots of things have had this pattern.

Though this is also something that fundamentally affects everything that isn't blind pick.

Rose colored glasses everywhere at riot. You get a free pair when you're hired... And they blindly follow corollary data regardless of causality.

They shouldn't have changed a GREAT/better old system! You don't fix what is not broken. Innovation is nice but usually done in small, experimental basis. It is not done quickly on a wide scale, especially if ppl did not ask for it.

The old system WAS broken.

Not talking about solo queue, I'm talking about ranked 5's.

Dynamic queue is leagues better than 5's ever was... but they should have fixed ranked 5's, not combined queues.

How was the old ranked 5s system broken?

Faie2 votes

Not enough people were in it, causing unfair matches because the player size didn't allow equal MMRs. The ability to have Challenger and Bronze players on the same team would cause matches where most of the players were even but one player would solocarry (which is why we have restrictions on who can play together in dynamic queue). Mostly just too few people played it, so you couldn't get fair matches without waiting hours for a queue, so the system would make unfair matches to make the queues normal.

"Normal" is a bit of a stretch. I remember 5-10 minute queues at bronze-silver mmr, and Rito only knows how long higher on the ladder.

What Fajisel said, and also that it was near-impossible to actually get 5 people together to play a game.

I'm going to put a post out about this shortly, including the solution (pure solo + club ranked, a team 5's replacement).

I'm just waiting on a couple people's proofreading now.

The amount of casuals they gain will outnumber the amount of dedicated/old players they will lose. It's a business decision. For them, there is no "admitting their mistake" since it will increase their gain.

Nilok1 votes

The problem with that is that is retention. Casual players will play for a bit, leave, and come back sometime later.Dedicated players will keep playing the game as it continues to challenge them.

Lirik24 votes

Socrates said it in the video ! BOTH queues at the same time is impossible, WHY ? because peoples would just rather play SoloQ, SO thats mean he his telling us, that they know soloQ would be played more so thats also mean, they are telling us whats better for us they know better then us they are lilttle spoiled BRATZ.

It's ironic that people call it a Blizzard move, yet Blizzard reverted to soloQ in HotS after players didn't like DQ.

We should just change the joke to "You think you want it, but you don't." ~ Riot Games

Vistha Kai1 votes

It's called a Blizzard move, because their actions led to decreasing WoW playerbase by 80%.

FastAsHeck1 votes

I know, it's just funny that Blizzard avoided the mistake that RIOT is doing right now.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Did they now?

I don't actually play Wow, so I wouldn't know.

FastAsHeck1 votes

not WoW, Heroes of the Storm. The ranked system of HotS was changed from DQ to SoloQ.

Mandang04 votes

Yea, and I can understand the logic behind their 100%/0% vs 60%/60% regarding serving both the solo players and 3+ premades, but Riot needs to stop making everything black and white. Will solo players probably choose solo queue above dynamic queue? Sure. Can you offer incentives to get some solo players to play dynamic? Sure.

The other thing is that Riot should be mindful of the expectations of each group instead of only the final state: 3+ premades are used to not being able to play ranked AT ALL. Riot could provide them a system that might have longer queues, but compared to not being able to play previously, this is still an improvement. Meanwhile, Riot's basically deleting a ranked mode that many players have come to expect. In short, Riot's decision didn't really optimize their favorability gains.

UPfreely7 votes

Except we have ranked and unranked. Current dq is fine for normals. Ranked needs 5v5 back and solo-dq.

theDeblin3 votes

They also have the incentive structure exactly backwards for DQ: solo players are outright punished for being nice enough to fill in the gaps in all the stupid premades, they only get 1/2 to 3/4 of the base IP reward.

It really needs to be the other way around: if there's a group of 4 and then one guy that's taking one for the other people's team, the solo player should be the one getting twice the IP of the others.

they've built literally an empire and its crashing down because of a few mistakes they are too stubborn to fix.

What is the problem with just having both solo queue and dynamic?

Keevalroy5 votes

Dynamic needs solo players to fill the empty slots left by premades, and Solo Queue's release would cannibalize the Dynamic population. Since there's now limited solo players to keep the Dynamic mode flowing, it dies. After putting so much effort (and so little thought) into Dynamic, the last thing they would want to do is watch the straw house effortlessly blown down by the Big Bad Wolf of Solo Queue.

Adding solo queue would instantly kill dynamic queue.

Solo queue is far loved. Dynamic queue is far hated. Riot is forcing dynamic queue on the player base.... the outcome is not going to be good.

dragon1xx1 votes

So why force it? If everyone loves solo queue, and hates dynamic queue, why force it? Riot, please don't lie anymore about how you only support the player base.

I'd recommend stop calling them "rito" it has been fun for the time being, but it seems like people that call them rito don't take them serious or some kind of bs.

It might just be my thoughts, but it could also be one of the problems here. Riot think they don't get taken serious, so they have to proof it. By kinda? ignoring their playerbase, or inventing new stuff (which obviously isn't that good).

The Deckowner15 votes

Rito is the term we use when riot fucked up

SkyblazeHydraX33 votes

You guys do realize that even if Riot does cave, despite having the insight, experience, and information none of us do (might as well be telling a farmer how to raise crops or a surgeon how to do a transplant), it would take months for them to integrate a solo queue that doesn't just bring back all the same problems the old one had, right? Months you'd have to spend waiting with little to no information, because Riot doesn't like sharing information on early iterations that could drastically change (with examples of NOT staying silent biting them being Yorick's initial rework attempt at the same time as Xerath, and this very solo queue debacle).

It's not just a matter of player satisfaction, but also practicality. Riot has to take into consideration and work with so many statistics that none of us even know about. They're honestly better off fixing the problems with Dynamic Queue and making it work for solo players (like me, who actually just plays the fucking game) rather than trying to bring Solo Queue as it was back.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

What problems with the old SoloQ??? I've never heard a single person complain about the original soloQ other than the butthurt salty bronzors that blamed the game and the matchmaking for their inability to climb.

The issues you are talking about with these statistics and shit would be solved entirely by transparency. But Riot won't fucking release anything. They act like they are working in some top secret science facility working on new military technology. THEY ARE A VIDEO GAME DEVELOPER. THE BIGGEST SECRETS THEY HAVE IS THE NEXT FKIN CHAMP THAT'S COMING OUT. Hardly ground breaking stuff here... If Riot is so convinced that DQ is for the best and claims that statistics support that claim, WHY THEY HELL ARE THEY HIDING THOSE STATISTICS??? People are threatening to leave the game in droves and instead of trying to explain the situation, Riot just sits there and all but ignores us. Now, I totally understand that Riot can't just talk about literally every project they are working on. It would get waaaay too tedious and they would also inevitably end up disappointing people by teasing content that ultimately gets scrapped (ie Ao Shin). But there's got to be some kind of balance here, especially when it comes to things like DQ. If you want to keep all of your content projects (skins, champs, reworks, etc) under wraps until they are polished and ready to go, I have no issue with that. But when you refuse to comment intelligently and candidly on basic infrastructure-level changes to the game culture, that's when people get pissed and start to feel alienated.

SkyblazeHydraX33 votes

Let's be real. If they gave us the statistics saying that the majority have no issue with and are continuing to play Dynamic Queue, would anyone who dislikes Dynamic Queue believe them?

The sad fact of the matter is a resounding No, because "Riot can make up and forge whatever numbers they want hurr durr".

Rioters could work until their fingers are numb putting out factual information proving that Dynamic Queue is overall better for the game, but that won't shut up the detractors. Nevermind all the insults, rage, and threats they'd get in the meantime.

So that time is better spent on taking steps to improve Dynamic Queue and deal with what issues there are, making it a more pleasant experience for those who take issue with it.

Truth. Sad reality. Browsing these forums seeing all the threads about it, and then you see people come in and say "EUREKA, THIS GUY IS SO RIGHT" without so much as a thought. People don't like to think critically these days. They just think about what is most appealing to their own self interests.

SkyblazeHydraX32 votes

Pretty much. It's even worse when you're trying to prove something without any real mass to put behind it. You could explain the full mathematical formula as to how gravity works, but for some people that just doesn't carry the same weight as seeing an apple fall from the tree.

Riot could put out any number of statistics dialing back to League's closed beta proving Dynamic Queue is healthier for the game and all-around superior, but for some people that just wouldn't mean as much as seeing all these complaints.
