I'll post this here

I was on op.gg looking at my page and I thought I'd look at some of my recent matches because people have been posting about having games of lower ranks vs higher ranks

Sure enough

1 silver and 4 unrankeds (although I was silver II last season and I was queued with 3 people who were low silver last season. None of us finished our promotional games yet) vs 2 plats, a gold, and 2 silvers

Just thought this was interesting and wanted to share.

Idk...why can't I just...get matched with people who aren't in higher tiers than me? I don't really mind getting matched with or against someone from gold or low plat (plats dont happen often though) but having 3 people in higher tiers than you on the other team is annoying.

It's normals. As far as I know, and someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, the matchmaking criteria is not the same as with ranked.

Still, I'd like to at least have a fair matchup even if it isn't ranked. I looked farther into my match history and there were other times this happened too.

If this happened in ranked I'd be way more annoyed though

Yes, I agree it can be frustrating, but I don't think they are willing to implement more stringent matchmaking criteria for normal play because its not in the same scope of competitiveness as ranked. While some people do not play ranked, I think I can fairly say when people do play normals, it's more for having fun as opposed to be competitive and climbing the ladder, and a key point in this is as Riot so clearly demonstrates with their latest policy.. is playing with friends. People don't want that experience to be hampered with insanely long queue times just because their divisions don't correlate nicely with their friends or things of that nature. Again, I have no real facts on the matter, but I'm just saying how I think about the particular situation. If I was say, Plat and my friends were bronze and I wanted to play some normals with them, I wouldn't want to wait 10 minutes for the queue to try and find another team with equivalent MMR standing--unless of course, I stood to lose status in my competitive ladder as a result of the poor match up. I just want to go in, have some fun with friends and generally not play as seriously as I would in ranked. In normals I'll go for that super risky aggressive play to get a triple kill, where as in ranked I would not. My point with this is that the environment is simply not the same and I can't see the same matchmaking criteria being applied.

Kind of a run-on, jumbled paragraph but I hope I made myself clear.
