I'm Disappointed Over the New Battle Boss Skins

Honestly, I don't know why they went with Yasuo and Qiyana, the skins look like darker colored Arcade skins as opposed to the Battle Boss skinline. They really don't look anything like the previous skins.

So far the champs with Battle Boss skins are Veigar Brand Malzahar Ziggs Blitzcrank

Just for comparison, here are all the splash arts, https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DFmkJ4jXYAAjZ5j.jpg https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AeSvboztbAA/WYyiZ_20YfI/AAAAAAAArbQ/oPg2fsu7IlssaDM6jfXVcvii3hCNlNwxgCLcBGAs/s640/image%2B%252812%2529.jpg https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/RzvqORfFZythw9wch2hRceMVF3M=/0x0:1215x717/1920x0/filters:focal(0x0:1215x717):no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/8969995/0cc5d2b2d1adba2a.jpg https://www.mobafire.com/images/champion/skins/landscape/blitzcrank-battle-boss.jpg https://i.ytimg.com/vi/cmOWdbEiYr0/maxresdefault.jpg

Notice how the majority of them are not human, however Malz and Brand look nothing like humans at all. They are humanoid, but not human. The entire skinline has the same feel.

And then you get to Qiyana and Yasuo, https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QhaBoYw01XM/XP_pyOnzUTI/AAAAAAABUSE/NeNdawLW_MA9GDm-2hMjq5BvgdFzsPe2ACLcBGAs/s640/246001.jpg https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GCT1LWEWLoY/XP_pwXcMjOI/AAAAAAABUR8/B790sboIbcYRlWvG_8aaTzu-Dq1etcjVgCLcBGAs/s640/157017.jpg

They look.....nothing like the previous Battle Bosses at all. More like edgy arcade skins. Qiyana looks like some sort of Dark Candy/Arcade mix, the skins don't fit either of those champions. Yasuo just looks like an Arcade edgelord, not some big mechanical boss I'd fight in my videogame like Malz or Brand.

I would've LOVED to see Battle Boss Velkoz, he's perfect for this skinline. In fact theres a lot of other champs that would have fit this better than the two they picked...and if they really wanted to go with these 2 champs they could've done a much better job at remaining true to the original design because this really doesn't scream Battle Boss at me.

Just my 2 cents.

Not only that, but the skins are just a big chunk of an eye-hurting purple tone that blends everything together and doesn't let you see anything on the skin. That was my first impression, and sadly Caitlyn doesn't seem to have chromas to fix that. Qiyana's skin is nice, but it doesn't look arcade/battle boss and doesn't resemble an arcade game boss at all, same goes for Yasuo's except it looks even lazier.

I guess Qiyana just fell in that category because of champion release, but Yasuo doesn't fit at all. Imo these would have made a better pick:

Amumu AurelionSol Azir Elise Hecarim Galio Karthus Khazix Sion Xerath Warwick Velkoz Viktor Renekton

And some of them are even skin starving champs.

I agree, I dont look at these skins and think "battle boss". Just arcade. :/

Also, this yasuo skin reminds me too much iof his odyssey skin

Chembaron Yamada6/24/2019, 4:48:37 PM20 votes

Agreed, their choices for the Battle Bosses have been really weird. I could have imagined Yasuo as an Arcade skin, if they really wanted to milk him so badly.... but Battle Boss?

Inhuman designs go way better with the skin line in my opinion, wished they had chosen someone else here.

Side note: Am I the only one who gets reminded of Bowsette with that Qiyana skin? xD I got the feeling they wanted to use the Bowsette hype here.

I actually like the Qiyana skin. I think it suits her personality to be this cartoon-ish video game villain. Yes, its a little more humanoid than usual, but the splash art really sells it imo, and I like how royal she looks (again, really suits her). In-game, she looks good too. Lots of crunchy bit-ified sounds. (I really like Qiyana's look, her skin and her personality, and the only reason I'm not investing in her right now is because I don't like playing assassins and am terrible with them.)

I can agree that other Champions could fit even better, but I think Qiyana fits perfectly fine.

Yasuo is a little bit odd. I'm reminded a little bit of those Kirby mini-games where you had to have the fastest reflexes and "draw your sword" first. But I can agree that might be better suited for Arcade rather than Battle Boss. The skin isn't terrible, its just an overall miss.

Its a shame, Riot had been doing a good job of balancing out revisiting skinlines with both the mega popular money-makers AND the less popular champs that need skins. Just a patch ago they gave money-maker Jhin a really excellent Dark Star skin and also gave slightly less popular Karma and pretty niche Shaco some high quality skins too. I think it was a good balance of Champion choice. Feels like they kind of just went with the popular Champs only with Arcade this year. Arcade can fit so many Champions, both popular and unpopular, feels like there's a lot of potential candidates.

Oh well, glad that the Demacia Vice skins are here too, those are pretty great.

GreenKnight6/24/2019, 4:03:02 PM11 votes

People liked Oddysey, and Yasuo is still popular. I guess they are still riding their sucess

Jabberwöcky6/24/2019, 9:35:01 PM10 votes

Alistar Galio Illaoi Lissandra Mordekaiser Rammus RekSai Skarner Shyvana Volibear Urgot Xerath Zyra

All of these could of had excellent battle boss skins.

Remember how in certain games, some of the stage bosses were actually good characters possessed by something evil turning them evil as well?

What if Yasuo and Qyiana are actually that type of characters? They look different from the other Battle Boss characters because they aren't original Battle Bosses, but something took over them, and such they now are evil but still retain some of their normal looks, and maybe in the future we will see an actual Arcade version of these champions where they are "redeemed/purified".

They tried to make the new Battle Boss skins edgier which is far from what made the Battle Boss skin line great. This skin line was supposed to be a goofy, fun take on the classic 80's video game baddies, not cheap, run of the mill super mario cosplay splashed with tOns oF pUrPLe. The skins were supposed to make the champion a demented evil main antagonist, but one you couldn't take seriously, that's why champions like Blitzcrank, Veigar and Ziggs were chosen for the skin, because they weren't inherently 'threatening' champions to look at. The visuals of the previous skins made it so that the skins looked either really pixelated or polygonal, upholding that inhuman retro-classic 80's video game aesthetic, it's why Malzahar and Brand still fit into the theme regardless of being humanoid champions, the skin developers actually redesigned their models in order to look less human and more like classic video game bad guys. That's not the case with these new battle boss skins, it's quite evident that the skin team got lazy and just gave Yasuo and Qiyana cute outfits to make them look arcade-y, and don't get me wrong that kinda thing works with the arcade skins, but not the battle boss skins. I just wish the skin team didn't half ass these skins, if they made it so that these two skins looked similar to battle boss Malzahar wherein they redesigned the entire model and whatnot to look less human, I'd be so on board with these skins but again, these new skins look like cheap cosplay and it's sad.

Camille Ferrøs6/24/2019, 5:00:32 PM6 votes

Well, Yasuo is popular and arcade is a popular theme = coin. Qiyana is the perfectly molded video game girl character + arcade= coin.

INoble KnightI6/24/2019, 8:15:40 PM5 votes

They need to just make those Arcade skins and make new Battle Boss skins because they don't fit the theme at all.

ModAcademy Kayn6/25/2019, 2:29:19 AM4 votes

Like Qiyana's hair, I'm gonna hold judgement until they're actually released, cause what I keep seeing from Riot nowadays, is that they're not just making skins. They're trying to tell a story with said skins. For all we know, these are corrupted/evil Arcade villains, who've chosen to side with the villains of Battle Boss.

General Esdeath 6/25/2019, 12:01:00 AM4 votes

I think Qiyana looks fine, but maybe I'm biased because she looks so adorable/cool at the same time. Yasuo is missing a lot of color from it, and as far as I can see, there's no Arcade champions in there. Brand is fighting Ezreal, Malzahar is fighting Corki, Blitz is fighting Riven, and Ziggs is fighting Ahri.

Yasuo just has Veigar in the background, and no warm colors.

Moonboy656/25/2019, 4:34:25 AM4 votes

people seem to forget Battle Boss Yasuo used to be a good guy, but Veigar corrupted him with his code, hence why he looks like this

BLIGHTBRINGER6/25/2019, 12:06:16 PM4 votes

Those 2 skins need to be renamed.

I know that they want to create more diverse choices in terms of skins for some champions but ruining skin lines in the process with inconsistent design choices in comparison of similar previous skins is a problem.

Both Qiyana and Yasuo are too Human, and even then both of them don't fit the Battle Boss Criteria.

I'd rather would of prefered to see any of the following receive a Battle Boss Skin...

Karthus Mordekaiser Ornn Velkoz Xerath Zac

mrmeddyman6/24/2019, 7:41:40 PM3 votes

They shouldn't have called it Battle Boss at all. It could still be Arcade themed but they could have made them "glitches" or "deleted content" or "NPC" themed skins

D2Vincent6/25/2019, 9:13:19 AM3 votes

NGL when I saw that the Battle Boss skin was going to Yasuo, My soul died a little. The Battle Boss skin should have gone to Karthus in particular, and I have reasons for this.

  1. A while ago, there was a skins leak on Reddit that correctly predicted the coming of both the Battle Academia skins, and the Dogs vs. Cats VS event skin line. It had also predicted a set of Arcade skins, with Karthus being named as the Battle Boss skin at 1350. I know that maybe I shouldn't trust leaks on Reddit, but considering that several of those skins turned out to be true, I couldn't help but have hope.

  2. 2 weeks ago (wednesday), was June 12th, AKA the 10 Year anniversary of Karthus's Release into League. This would have proved a PERFECT time for Riot to release a skin for Karthus to sort of celebrate the occasion.

Seeing Yasuo getting the Battle Boss skin made be feel angry, and bitter. I just hope Karthus gets a skin SOON. Please Riot, give our deathpope boi some love! item 3070 Karthus

Ravenous Howls6/25/2019, 9:58:16 PM3 votes

Battle Boss Nasus, Renekton, Warwick, Kled, Urgot, Nautilus, Leona , Illaoi, Aatox, Aurelion Sol or pick your poison would have been better than any of these skins. These are needless cash grab bait and none of these champions, aside from the new champ, needed a new skin. I will say the Lucian and Garen skins look promising as they tug at that nostalgia of 90's buddy cop shows but that's largely where my interest ends and I have no intention of buying any skin from the line this year. There are probably 100 different champs that would have fit the theme better and been way more exciting. Much like the Dark Star skin line this year I feel other champs were far more deserving again I will say that Jhin skin is stunning.

Frostfel6/24/2019, 11:51:38 PM3 votes

I'll be honest. When I saw the trailer I didn't think there were any Battle Boss skins, thought they were all Arcade skins.

They have chromas, I don't know why they couldn't just call them "Arcade Yasuo" and "Arcade Quiyawhatever". Make their default skins a brighter chroma like the other arcades and make these current colors a chroma instead.

Baby Ghoul6/25/2019, 4:42:47 AM2 votes

Completely disagree about Qiyana. Her skin is rad.

Yasuo's is lackluster and so is Arcade Kai'sa. They both already have so many skins. Their spots could have easily went to other champions, but instead they made some mediocre additions for them.

gerbe6/25/2019, 5:21:29 PM1 votes

probably because qiyana and yasuo are infected rather than the “infectors.” here

Power Cosmic6/25/2019, 5:35:14 PM1 votes

I agree. They are weak as water.

Çaged6/26/2019, 12:25:38 AM1 votes

Yeah I don't think really anyone is happy with this. I understand Qiyana getting one because she needs a release skin and Arcade was coming up, but they could've tried harder with her. Also most Yasuo Mains (including myself) have basically said that we don't want this skin because it's pretty bad, and we'd rather someone like Xerath get it.

Jakra6/26/2019, 11:22:02 AM1 votes

I think Riot is slowly forgetting that the Arcade/Battle Boss skinline is meant its references to classic gaming with vibrant colours. The problem is, these aren't easily shown in these skins.

I feel they tried to give Yasuo the image of a Final Fantasy Boss, but it wasn't executed well enough. And Qiyana doesn't reference anything, or at least nothing obvious..

Call Me Nana6/30/2019, 6:12:05 PM1 votes

Wasnt Qiyana meant to be a Bowsette rendition? It looks really nice IMO, the chromas for it are exceptionally well done too.

ModRowanstar6/25/2019, 2:05:15 PM1 votes

I agree about Yasuo (who doesnt need another skin) and Caitlin who is ok but she has a better skin in Pulsefire which updates her animations and voice to be more modern. I love Qiyana's skin. Now about most of Arcade being non human: well we have Cait, MF, Brand who is technically a human, Riven. But yes the BB skins are all non human. That said I really do love Qiyana's skin. Its even better than her classic imho.

SmoGGedout16/25/2019, 3:59:03 PM1 votes

Sadly, the skins are the last thing we shouls worry about what rito does....
