Unless You Play A Hard Carry, Low ELO Is Actually Not Easy to Carry

LaughingStapler··115 votes·16,535 views

I've played on a S1 account and the games feel like a lottery. One game my top goes 0-12 and basically loses the game, another our bot gets super far ahead etc. Individually, me outcsing and outpressuring my opponent has little impact compared to high gold because teams just feed or get fed so fn hard. It feels lucky not to get a garbage team. Basically, it seems like low ELO games actually snowball way harder and people also rage way more. It's actually funny because they don't end games fast enough but they give up early so it's almost as if they ended cleanly.

Playing in silver 1 is hardly smurfing when your main account is gold level.

A smurf is just an alternate account. It doesn't have to be Diamond and nor is rank a factor for the definition. However, g2-g1 is night and day compared to s1. The level of the game isn't even comparable - especially for decision making.

Slamurai Jack5 votes

It's only night and day when one of them is your actual skill level. I've played in both those elos on my smurf on the way to diamond; same garbage, different banner.

Prozzak9 votes

They won't feel night and day when you are a diamond level player, but they will if you are gold level.

If your original account is silver, and your smurf is gold...

Does that make the first account the smurf?

nfzeta2 votes

supp main here. Actually since the league ping is horrible right now i had to switch to playing supp and it actually got me some ways ahead but sometimes you get that really bad adc where you either have to take most of the kills because they aren't trying to win or you have to play the babysit game the whole lane because they keep getting hit by cc or not trading while someone on the other team is getting ahead. Then you got the adcs who you literally spoon feed 5-6 kills in lane and somehow they think they got them on their own skill and proceed to do reckless plays which then drop the lead you gave them; then think they can flame the team, INCLUDING YOU, when they mess up.

Lol... I had a kog Naw today that was determined to trade against a Janna/Lucian at level 1. I was Braum and he walked PAST ME to be in range to start hitting the Janna shielded Lucian. Needless to say, he lost that trade and was like "wtf support, do something."

I'm sorry, it's not my fault you decided to walk into the middle of a creep wave and try to trade. For one, I'm melee. Two, you put yourself in front of me. And three, I started Q and Lucian was behind his creeps like a good adc should be. I can't do anything to help that kind of stupidity :P

He died a few times later, blamed the jungler for not ganking, etc. but I protected him as best as I could and made sure he was able to safely farm. Because I know that kog maw can still scale really nicely. I just had to make sure he got to that point, and that he stayed alive as long as possible to deal as much damage as possible. We won that game. Didn't stay in the post game lobby, but he was probably really proud of himself for that game. Because he did eventually carry it. He probably just doesn't realize that I'm the reason he was able to do it :P

this is the issue i have... the champ i play dont have the ability to carry a game.. they can EASILY win if my team doesn't feed.. but if my team feeds im not on a champ that can fix that.

you really need to be on a champ that can 1v5 if you get fed to "solo" carry regardless of your teammates.

almost any adc can carry

and champ likeAzir Diana Fizz Fiora Katarina Malphite Nasus MasterYi Poppy Riven Renekton Shyvana Tryndamere XinZhao MonkeyKing Volibear Yasuo Viktor Olaf Garen Leblanc Talon Jax

are all champs that can carry decently well when fed becuase they all either huge busts that can be reset or extremely high damage while being absurdly tanky

i playNidalee Lux Ziggs RekSai Blitzcrank

all of which can make a HUGE impact on the game.. however nid, lux and ziggs can easily be instagibbed if they get caught by ANY sort of cc.. and blitz well is a support so while i can set up kills perfectly i have to have teammates get them.. and reksai is a good champ but she isnt a champ that can really 1v5 if fed.. i can easily turn the tide of a champ if my other lanes dont feed.

but carrying when teammates who feed is near impossible with the champs i play no matter how fed i get.

i actually USED to be able to carry a little bit on Nidalee when she could lane because she was an absolutely AMAZING split pusher withitem 3100 andsummoner 12 .. but since all i can do with her now is jugnle and i cant drop summoner 11 orsummoner 4 i can never really take summoner 12

I would argue that it's actually extremely hard to carry with LB. Her pushing power is really low and you need to close out the game between 30-35 minutes to avoid being obsolete; unfortunately that requires your teamates to push lanes. Instead, they decide to screw around in the jungle everytime 3 of the other team is down.

i have had the enemy Diana carry more games than i can count.. and i can remember at least 5 times our diana carried.

diana can pretty much 1 shot you and with her cresent strike reseting her ulti can can easily 1v5.

infct diana has a kit VERy similar toNidalee except she has better base stats is tankier and has a shield.. as well as she donest absoltely NEED to land cresent strike to go in.

were as nid NEEDs to land that spear to pounce in.. nid is squishy, and nid donest have a sheild.

granted diana has to commit when she goes in as she donest have an escape. but diana can survive in melee range and nid cant

I have probably over 200 Diana maybe even 300 games total throughout four seasons. If Diana is one v five diving your team and not dying right away your team is really bad. I don't mean that as an insult but contrary to popular belief she is in fact still a glass cannon champion. The shield can buy her a few seconds if that but your team should be able to blow her up easily unless you are that far behind. But a full build Diana diving a team that isn't like 20k gold behind should die. You should stun her or all land at least one ability on her and then like one ult and kill her.

She doesn't get to be like Yi with these crazy tank builds dealing tons of damage. Have I hard carried some games yes. But it was only after getting at least another lane rolling. Also the enemy team not peeling me ever. Shes like Leblanc but with less freedom. I can pop someone but if you group I should never dive and get away with it unless your reflexes/vision control is bad. The second one is Riot's fault though. And if Diana doesn't land crescent strike and goes in Then she should at best kill one person and die.

The problem with low elo, when I was in Bronze- was the fact no one really communicated.

Oh their Yasuo is fed and is the one wrecking us? Better focus their Trundle instead during a team fight. Hey guys, they have a Soraka who is constantly healing the enemy ... let's try to kill Quinn because she's squishy.

You see, not everyone in low elo is like this- but far too often I found people going for the wrong champions during a team fight. They'd either overextend and die, losing us a tower or objective in the process or perhaps they continue to feed without changing their laning style. Diving into the fed enemy laner isn't going to suddenly change in your favor bud.

Although you can 'carry' your team, it is quite difficult. I remember this Gold Katarina tried everything to help us win the game. She was 15 / 3 / 1 and yet we lost because top lane and jungler fed super hard, and because Katarina is squishy ... she can't fight off the entire team without backup so yea. The guy who played her was very upset with himself, saying in all chat "Why try my hardest when the game doesn't award my efforts?" That still gets to me this day, and I hope he's in Gold or higher because during that game I was in Bronze II

Now i'm in Gold III. Don't give up whoever is still stuck in low elo. If a Support Main like myself can climb out, so can you- especially if you have a hyper carry champion.

.. He went 15 and 3, not sure how else he could of saved our game. You can't carry certain games especially if you get focused first and your team isn't all there to back you up.

But I see your name is Katarina Main, so you're probably really good with her. Have you been able to carry all your games or were there times you couldn't?

Yeah, but just cause the climb can happen doesn't mean it absolutely sucks in the process. I've been running galio support, and you would think that if I was to ult the adc and support, that my twitch would ult both naut and jhin right? but no, he only attacks naut, which gives us a support kill instead of the easy double or the setback we could have gotten on Jhin.

A few things...

It's a team game, you shouldn't be able to solo carry in the first place. Yes, it happens, even in Master/Challenger, but imo, it shouldn't be possible.

The champs you play likely aren't suited for solo carrying. You also are likely picking champs that don't work well into the enemy team's comp. I'd recommend maining a very versatile champ who can do 2+ roles. Irelia is a VERY good example of this, and I carried myself from Bronze 5 to Bronze 1 in a week with her/Elise (then got hella busy irl and am only Silver 4, almost Silver 3 rn). She defaults to building at the very least like a bruiser, she outputs a lot of damage, has inbuilt sustain, passive is gorgeous, has true damage to shred other tanks, has point-and-click hard cc, and a moderately low skill floor. Elise is very similar, except true damage is % max HP damage, which is just as good.

Wimbledofy6 votes

you're very wrong in saying that it shouldn't be possible. Think of any real life sport. Take a bunch of kids (bronze players in league would be similar to this) playing soccer (Football) or american football and add a young teen(gold+)-adult(plat-challenger) to one team. The team with the older person now has a big advantage and that one person will very likely "carry" the game. Same thing applies to league, but it is actually easier to carry in real life since in league your teamates can feed and set you back, while in a real sport the kids would have to intentionally get in your way for it to be too hard to win.

RIPxMidnight13 votes

I agree that he's wrong in saying it shouldn't be possible, but check your example:

the kids (bronze) would recognize the teen/adult (gold - challenger) is the best player on the team. They would pass him the ball, they would listen to his advice, they would play the game around him so that he could carry.

in low ELO, the kids (bronze) wouldn't be able to look at the teen/adult and see any difference. They wouldn't listen to him. They would kick the ball away from him, out of bounds, at their own net. Meanwhile, they'd flame him for staying onsides (y don't u go stand right at the net wtf noob) or trying to lead a pass (im standing here y u pass it there wtf u troll). You'd also have to assume that even if the good player has control of the ball, there are 4 other balls somewhere else on the field.

League is harder to solo carry purely due to skill difference than almost any other conceivable sport. Say you're a pitcher in baseball and your opponents can hit the ball 10 ft further every time one of your teammates strike out.

Fanny Forecast1 votes

Oh no! Someone who is inherently better is able to carry! Call the cops!

This isn't what I was saying, this should ALWAYS be possible. Silver players shouldn't be able to solo carry silver is what I was saying.

tidegate5 votes

I've climbed through elo hell multiple times, on my second account it was slightly easier only because I found certain champions that fit my play style well and could easily carry with cc if I got ahead. But man, you're spot on, I've played games where I have 300+ cs and a 6.0 kda and just can't carry this bot lane that went 0 and 25 and they're duos lol. The saddest part is, is that simply asking someone to ward and play safer can set lower elo players off. "Dude there's 4 people diving my tower how can I play safer? stfu" uh well if you're in a situation where you're getting 4 man dove you shouldn't have been there to begin with...

nfzeta2 votes

Oh talk about giving advice in low elo. In fact in LoL in general people seem to prefer to get flamed or just called bad than be given any advice on what they're doing wrong. Tell a top laner who's losing against an ap champ that hexdrinker would help (not even outright telling them to buy it) gets a "stfu, don't tell me how to play" response. Yet they get all defensive or shut up if you ever flame them. Both actions put them on tilt but they seem to rage less with the latter.

The Taco Kat5 votes

@laughingstapler I guess this is a staple argument.

Jokes aside, silver ELO is by far the worst, followed by low diamond (people think that they are unkillable gods there for some reason).

ValyrianBlade4 votes

I think that's a good point that others have made before but is worth re-iterating: What it takes to win in high elos won't let you win in low elo. What wins in low elo is different.

In low elo, you win by shitting on your lane opponent and snowballing out of control. If you're not doing that, then someone else probably is (or is at least trying to) which means you only have a 4/9 chance of winning those games (since you're not trying to take large risks and snowball out of control).

In contrast, this very thing would make you lose in high elo. Taking those risks would result in you getting ganked at just that time (as in high elo your opponent wouldn't make so many mistakes to give up solo kills) and you'd be the one feeding and causing your team to lose. In low elo though, people are making those mistakes and you're capitalizing on them and snowballing.

Meanwhile, what works in high elo (slowly building up a considerable CS lead, an XP advantage, having good rotations to get a slight turret lead, etc...) does still work in low elo but not well enough. Unless none of your allies/enemies are snowballing, it won't have much impact on the game. Snowballing is just so much stronger that someone being 6-0 at 15 minutes makes your 50cs and 1 level lead look pretty meaningless.

FistOfSharkiesha4 votes

It's hard to carry even as a hypercarry. The whole concept of "one person should be able to carry the whole team" is bullshit because there's usually someone on the other team with a similar skill level as you trying to carry as well. It depends on the extremes of your teammates. Are your teammates going to go 12/0 or 0/12? I've had dozens of games where my participation didn't matter at all. I've gotten fed as fuck and lost because other lanes fed more than I got fed, and I've been carried.

Good luck hypercarrying when your lanes feed before you even clear 3 camps in the jungle and they come right back to lane and feed some more.

You can literally carry low elo with any champion in the game.

Play a split pushing champ, low elos have absolutely 0 concept of side wave control and will just continue grouping mid until you're about to kill their inhibitor.

Currently im in Elo hell. Bronze 2 even though i play well enough for S5. I watch the LCS and got an understanding of macro strategy and micro strategy. I understand that it takes communication to win as well as individual skill. However, NONE of that means a damn thing in Bronze. No matter how hard I try to help my team, almost every match has people wanting to stay in their own lane like they are playing bots, And this happens in norms as well. People just dont want to help each other and cooperate.

In the first 20 minutes, the enemy jg will gank a certain lane a certain number of times while our jg either afk farms or tries to push the other 2 lanes out leaving the last lane to the wolves and then has the audacity to say its that lanes fault for falling behind despite that lane getting ganked 3-4 times because the other team knows the jg doesnt want to help that lane.

I actually had to stop playing ranked because i was playing as an ADC main and most of the time i would get shit jg and shit support who never went after the adc, they always went after the support and we would always lose lane regardless. Then i get blamed for not doing my job. Well, its kinda hard to be an adc when i myself am getting chunked out by THEIR adc while my jg and support are focusing THEIR support.

But this is why i had to stop with ranked. In bronze, these people have no clue of what macro strategy is, no idea how to communicate, refuse to ward and always go after the tanks instead of the dmg dealers.

The team always blames the adc when the support does a bad job, as long as support wards they usually fly under the radar until late game even though alistar is saving the other team's adc every time he messes up his combo

The team always blames the adc when the support does a bad job, as long as support wards they usually fly under the radar until late game even though alistar is saving the other team's adc every time he messes up his combo

As a support main i consider that terribly inaccurate, but given my perspective ill only state that there are bad adcs and bad supports and bad players for any position in any elo compatitively (ie, a bad gold player is worth silver, while a bad bronze is worth bronze. id still take the bad gold objectively speaking if it didnt rocket the enemy elo too hard that we get matched against) and regardless of the adc, if bot looses or there isnt enough vision (counting my pink and 2-3 trinkets on the map) the support gets the blame 60-80% of the time. ---reference i play with players ranked and unranked bronze-gold and seen it for all---

but to the comment, i play nautilus a lot, ive played him for ages, i know his tricks and tricks of locking down an adc for ages, chaining my cc so it is maximized. even post lvl 6 against an immobile varus unloading all my cc properly, ive had an adc partner fail to get his damage out. it happens, makes me want to rage inside but i just set up and do it again. if it happens multiple times i may venture the reminder of wait for your burst till i initiate and watch your positioning. after all a support can start fights and can tank damage. but tanks can not make opponents choose to hit him if the squishy is also in range, try as they might to limited success. a support can only take so many blitz hooks for his adc before he has to throw in the towel and rotate mid to the other team's likely carry.

anyone can be bad, doesnt mean it is you, doesnt mean it isnt just a bad game or that you happen to be outmatched. as far as i see it though, riot tries to pit you against similar opponents, 60% of the time at least it should be accurate. if the sup you have is terrible, check to see if toplane is winning. play the map, communicate till you get a response. ask your ali to not go for the combo, and save it for flash-> pulverize-> knock back in a team fight.

56552559_DEL2 votes

I have no problem with support mains. If you main support, you know what you are doing and if we fail, then we fail.

My problem is that support mains are too few in number and i am stuck with people who choose the "fill" option and dont want to play support (or even know how to play yet they choose the option anyway) even though most of the time you are guaranteed support if you choose that option.

I had a match where my nautilus support hit every damn hook i could have asked for when i was a kalista and we had great synergy. Too bad i dont get enough matches with supports like that.

Castozor2 votes

You can do what my friend did, most adc's are terribly happy when you are doing your job as a support right. So like him, add any and all adc's that you think were both good and friendly and duo up with them for ranked. Sure for a few that one game you played with them was a fluke or something and on average they perform less well but if what my friend told me is right it should be absolutely no problem to get a duo going with another adc because they are very happy when they get the chance to duo up with a good support.

You are not in those matches with me. I communicate all the time with pings and chat, I ask my support to build sightstone and go for the adc, i buy pinks on every back and do everything i need to do in order to succeed in lane. But i cant do much when my support always goes for the other support and when the jg never comes bot even though we get 3 man ganked 3-4 times in a 20 minute period.

So please explain what i am doing wrong in those situations that makes ME the one that needs to improve. You sound just like the teammate i would have trying to blame me for losing lane when we get no help.

As someone who was stuck in Bronze 1 for the past two seasons and finally climbed out by myself, you CANNOT rely on your team. In fact, this season is the perfect meta for climbing out of Bronze. You play a bruiser that deals a ton of damage while being moderately tanky that can power farm like Shyvana or Nocture, and you just farm. Go Susan if you can CS properly.

You only gank lanes to feed yourself. You don't to help your team. The instant your teammates can't follow through a gank, you ignore them and power farm. When mid game comes around, and everyone is dicking around waiting for a teamfight, you drop a ZZ'Rot portal and solo two bot towers.

I went from Bronze 3 to Silver 5 in about 30 games. I'm currently stuck in Silver 4 because my MMR went full tilt because of a 10 game lose streak where I've been stuck with AFKers and intentional feeders.

Bolded the important part. This is exactly what OP is complaining about. You are complaining about the same thing. In fact, you are literally saying exactly what OP is saying. You are being held back because of the poor play of your team-mates.

Remlap12231 votes

I'm not saying I deserve challenjour, I'm saying I'm having extremely shit luck with the teams I've been getting matched with.

The reason why I said that is because I know I can go past that (I was placed in Silver 4 my first ranked year and I'm leagues ahead of where I was in terms of skill.) My normal MMR is around Gold V.

The reason I'm taking a break is because if I continue playing with this mindset, I'm going to go full tilt and get banned again. Make no mistake, it is my teammates fault, and I can totally understand where OP is coming from. But I also know that you have to rely solely on yourself to climb, so there is always room for improvement.

It's funny, you bolded the last sentence I said, but you missed the entire point of my post even though it was the FIRST FUCKING THING I WROTE.

Flitchee2 votes

Your first problem is you play adc, adc is fine in higher elos or if you are just outright good at it, if you aren't that great mechanically with it, then you should play something else, as your team doesn't peel you. The best way to win in bronze is by being selfish, or if you really want to be a team player play a mage and go mid or something, but if you can play tryn/nasus/any split pusher top, or udyr jungle and just split push, guaranteed that they don't know how to deal with it. if you truly understand map rotations, you will be out of bronze in a week or less, because all bronze is is aram with two lanes full of minions, nobody gives a damn about top or bot after 20 mins, they all just clump mid and team fight then when they win the fight they recall to buy more items so they can win the next fight instead of winning the game

So I started roaming as zilean at lvl 4 because she still wasn't showing a capability of being a carry, just a minion farmer

I got our mid jhin fed and kept him from dieing on a constant basis and he hard carried the game because of it

Ps I do t play ranked, just normals because I get more trolls/afk/feeders in ranked than I do in normals

I played about 40 games last season and climes from placement of silver 2 to gold 5 (30 games after placement)

I may play norms but I learned to spot bad and who has the best chance of carry early in the game

I'll stick with my adc if they are decent, but if they are just bad I will abandon the lane

Not when vs a lux varus bot and having a zilean support

Condemn adds more safety and power in trades, silver bolts is more tunes for late game but is picked up at lvl 3 for a little bonus damage

Edit: not to mention of the multiple vayne a I've lanes with and vs, they get condemn lvl 2 silver bolts at 3

Not taking silver bolts at level 2 is terrible unless you have a support like blitzcrank.

You don't play ranked but climbed. Not sure how that works.

I played about 40 games of ranked in S5 including placements

Placed at S2, 30 games later I hit G5 and didn't feel the need to climb more in the troll fest that is ranked in silver and low gold, I carried games as a support in S5, which is much harder to do in S6, I will not play ranked until there is a semblance of balance in the game, likely after the Mage rework
