"a huge number said they didn’t want to abandon their friends to [play ranked]"
So the solution is to destroy the integrity of ranked? Why do you even need these players to be in ranked rather normals? If they're with several friends, they're probably more focused on messing around than winning optimally anyway.
You cannot have such different experiences and skillsets measured as if they are one and the same by ranking everyone on the same ladder. A solo que Platinum interacting mostly with other solo quers or duo quers is very different from someone in a 5 man premade who is also Platinum but plays mostly against 4-5 man premades. You also can't fairly make the solo que player face the 4-5 man.
You're ranking people on the same ladder who won't even interact with the same player pool and have a totally different experience. It's fundamentally broken and irrational. There's no way around this and no magical fix as long as this is allowed. This is the big elephant in the room that Meddler's posts don't address.
I have no problem with Dynamic Que existing, but don't compromise the predictive power of ranked play. Show split raitings for each matchmaking scenario (solo, duo, 3 man, 4 man, 5 man). Otherwise it's just a garbled mess and the rankings of players are meaningless because they lack specificity.
