Toxic Players Ganged Up on Me & Got Me a 2-Week Ban - READ IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IT

LaughingStapler··308 votes·23,433 views

Many of you trust the system but it is very vulnerable to malicious reports because it is mostly automated. If you disagree with someone without resorting to insults or just if they don't like you, they can ruin your account. Sometimes just daring to defend yourself with an explanation is enough to get reported.

In the game I just played, 3 players ganged up on me with harassment and had the audacity to make false reports as well. I admit my play wasn't stellar but ultimately, that is not a cause for a report. I finished 3/8/3 and the last death was just messing around after the surrender vote went through. I also had a CS lead most of the game and my deaths were mostly a result of over-pushing an advantage (bad dives). Apart from those 2 initial deaths to my laner, I traded with him or I died to a Talon 1-shotting me. Our Ryze went 2-12 and Talon was roaming hard. I don't even think I was the biggest liability on the team.

**Here is the LINK TO THE CASE. Don't respond until you've read it. **I'll explain briefly. EDIT: The e-mail message isn't showing the case file anymore for unknown reasons (I'm still banned). I have all the text though quoted from support's response. I hope I won't need backups of this thread too.

The first time I die, the Udyr makes sure to express how bad I am and how disappointed he is in me. I don't remember exactly what he typed though and the chat logs are sadly incomplete in the suspension notice (something Riot should change imo since there's no context at all.).

I whittle down the Ez to 10% or less and again barely fail the dive. At this point, the Ryze joins in "should have banned AP Ez. idiot Kog." This is where I respond:

"i just pushed too hard and dived too much but yeah you just called me an idiot so enjoy you're the one witht he most deaths"

The Ryze continues to complain about everyone and especially how strong Talon (top) is. Although, he snares him after Talon dives him and never walks outside melee range.

I'm 0/2 at this point but Talon roams mid and insta-kills me. Now Udyr, gets even more mad and keeps spamming all chat "report Kog intentional feeding" etc. Alistar also joins in and uses me as a scapegoat "Kog is terrible" etc. he spams in all chat.

The Talon and Ezreal actually defend me and say that the only mistake I made was the 2 early dives and they shouldn't blame me for everything. At this point, the Udyr and Alistar aren't even sure what to claim to report me for. They waver between intentional feeding, unskilled and refusing to communicate. I ask how I've refused to communicate and he says that I pushed when he said I shouldn't. This first of all isn't even true, I just waveclear fast but wasn't at his turret or anything after I learned my lesson from the dives. Secondly, I didn't die to my laner without trading apart from the 2 failed dives early. Lastly, not following someone's instructions isn't the same as refusing to communicate. No one designated him team leader and me loyal subject. I am allowed to make my own decisions so this isn't a valid reason to report regardless.

Before this, I've only gotten a short chat restriction a few month ago. I didn't recall being toxic so I asked for chat logs. Riot eventually provided them and they weren't too bad. Riot's support even agreed but said they couldn't lift the restriction. You can find the chat logs here if you're interested. I reference them here to give a more complete picture since some are bound to argue that I must have been very toxic in the past. Keep in mind that this was a separate case and I never got another chat restriction after. I was just INSTANTLY banned after the game I mentioned in this post. I never had a chance to defend myself or have a human review it so that's why I created this thread.

The automated system probably banned you for quoting their flame or continuously using words die and you in the same sentence, which is why the system is totally unreliable and should be replaced. I don't see why you'd deserve a ban by any means, you should ask riot support to review this case.

KarKzz11 votes

I reported a lot of people for flaming (me or other), i only report for extreme cases like "get cancer" "I hope you family die" , ... but they never got anything. So you are telling me ,that guy who do nothing wrong get banned, and those toxics player don't get anything ?

only one false positive out of 500 billion player accounts

I believe they said the number was closer to 1/6,000 bans are false positives. Seems to be about right for what's surfaced on the forums, this is the first time I recall seeing someone actually be falsely detected.

Lucifer14 votes

Because Riot has had so many people on the forums reviewing these cases. I think the best part is that if you send an inquiry into player support, they will straight up refuse to show you your logs or help you. There's no false positives because Riot refuses to acknoweldge that any can exist.

From what everyone says, you check the email account that's tied to your League of Legends account.

i got a 42 game chat suspension out of the blue with no email or any previous bans. where can i go to see why because i emailed riot and they gave me 0 of what i did wrong and copy pasted the summoners code.

lol I can't believe people are calling this guy toxic. If this is what leads to a 2-week ban, I'd rather not talk in this game ever again. Explain yourself, Rito. I know that Lyte's answer is gonna be "the logs in the case aren't the only logs that led to the ban". But I have a follow up question, what's the point of showing people logs if they could be irrelevant? It sort of defeats the original purpose anyway. Why have something half-done to a point that it can't be used?

LaceUp2319 votes

No, he will say that it is because he asked to report the players in game instead of muting and waiting until the game was over. I got 40+ games chat suspended and went on the forums. That was literally the only thing he told me.

Good point. The straw that breaks the camels back is useless by itself. So show all the evidence, or none at all. Maybe Riot should tell EVERYONE that asking for report is bannable. Because the only way you would know is if you read the forums. And they should include ALL of the evidence that led to a ban, otherwise they are not doing their job. If they used other reports to come up with a ban, surely they are still available. Abolish the auto-ban, bring back the tribunal, and actually do it.

I just want tribunal back. "Your peers judged your behavior to be far below the standards of the League of Legends community." What peers?

Riot. What the hell?

Not a fucking SINGLE word in that whole chat log to me felt as 'overly negative' or raging. Riot, what are you doing? Popular streamers say shit worse than this and you let them off the hook. Why? Because they advertise your game?

This is purely sad. A sad day for the League Of Legend (non-toxic) community.

Delioth6 votes

The issue is that the streamers, while they say worse, are often saying worse while they're in games with friends/viewers, or by people who have heard of them (trick2g, &c.). As a result, they aren't reported so the system won't kick in- as far as it knows, they weren't negative or anything.

wrong, believe it or not there is a popular streamer named Shaclone who has OVER two thousand chat bans, and is known for trolling peoples ranked games because he didnt get shaco, and yet hes still out there, riot is a joke

True, but there is no question that the false reports in this game lead to the automated ban. It's never OK to be punished for something you didn't do. The system even skipped chat restriction. What if most of the other cases factored in are just like this?

Even if said player is toxic sometimes, to be banned off false reports is still not just. That would be like a guy getting arrested for jaywalking and then having heroin & cocaine planted on him. Would you like to serve jail time for that too?

Goodest Gamer25 votes

a 4 man premade was doing the ultimate bravery shit spamming it in chat. in champ select i asked them to try to win seeing as im ranked restricted and i needed the win. i ignored them all game and then told them it was rude to continue to do what they were doing. i then got reported by the 4 of them. i sent in a ticket and 2 days later i check their stats and they are still able to play. its disgusting that this company is revered. the ticket was replied with "we will punish them accordingly". nice meme riot.

This type of behavior is unacceptable in this community. When there is nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. As a community, we also don't believe that retaliation is an appropriate response, so in cases where there is retaliation, both players receive penalties. This is the only warning this account will receive. Further examples of toxic behavior can result in permanent closure of your account.

1st bold statement is problematic in its own right. When the hell did we actually define when something's good to say? Is pointing out that someone is harassing you simply bad? Is it just delivery? If it's only delivery, then what the hell is determining that our delivery is bad? But an automated system can obviously not read context as well as a human, so it must be key words. Meaning if you repeat something ban-worthy in-chat, you're dead. If it's something else entirely, then we're gonna have fantastic luck figuring out where the line was drawn for this community, when we apparently have no idea how far the Summoner's Code actually goes.

The 2nd bold statement I find to be hilarious. When did WE, THE COMMUNITY, decided that ALL forms of retaliation are inappropriate. The community has NOT had a say in who gets banned or not for almost a year now, so THE COMMUNITY has no word in this matter, or any other matter. If you're gonna ban people with a copy-pasted response, keep us out of it, since we're not a part of this, nor do we seem like we'll ever be a part of the system again.

The last bold statement I also have a problem with. Why is this the only warning? Does the degree of toxic behavior not factor into these warnings? Does everyone only get one? Or do they get three, and have they gone through them? Is there no standard guidelines for punishment available, or do we have to go out on a limb and test out how long it takes us before we get these warnings?

LaughingStapler12 votes

Thanks for the support guys but apparently Riot doesn't agree (or didn't read). Maybe if this gets enough attention, they will take another look. At the moment though, they seem to trust the algorithms absolutely. It's pretty frustrating for ban decisions to be handled by a bot and then to find the human response is a copy-pasted message with no oversight or tangible feedback. The funny and also sad thing is that in the post-game lobby, the instigators told me I'd get banned. That's the biggest kick in the sack... get harassed + blamed all game and then have YOUR account banned automatically once they report you. Meanwhile, I'm sure they are just laughing about this if they ever find the thread.

I'm not claiming I was an angel every game but I don't see ban worthy reasons in that chat log nor do I recall any. I'll admit that it's better just to not respond to toxic players rather than explaining anything. However, being harassed creates its own stress and it's hard to be the perfect stoic that brushes off everything. I rarely talk much or explain myself when not placed in such an unpleasant environment.

I also never imagined that simply disagreeing with them was such a big offense as long as I didn't resort to personal attacks or vulgarity. I tried to be disciplined and stick to facts. I'm not sure where it ends anymore or if I'll ever be able to use the chat again without fear. I guess next time someone berates me, I'll just type "puppies and shine" then be done with it. If this chat log was so bad for Riot that they not only punished me but skipped over chat restrictions straight to banning, I'm not sure why they even have a chat system. They might as well have pre-made messages and expanded pings only.

I shouldn't have to be this self-conscious in a video game. I'd probably be less self-conscious when talking to the president than I will in future ranked games. That makes the game decidedly less fun for me.

Riot support's response to my request for reevaluation:

The bolded part was my emphasis due to how shocking it is for me. The way the response is written and the fact I had no previous chat restriction for almost 2 months makes that hard to believe for me.

Hi Alex,

As a new initiative to reduce the amount of toxicity within League of Legends, we’ve recently begun to audit players’ accounts for extreme cases of toxic behavior. Every account punished by this system was personally reviewed by someone at Riot to ensure accuracy.

After having reviewed your account, the decision to issue a 2-week suspension was made due to the extreme cases of toxicity we found. This type of toxic behavior has no place in League of Legends, and we will continue to punish players who exhibit this behavior.

Here are some chat logs from those games played that were negative. These are only a few of many chat logs that displayed negative behavior. Please know that this suspension is a warning before a possible permanent suspension.

Game 1:

Okay, first off, that sucks man, I'm sorry that happened to you:(.

Second off, it shows how fucking stupid and incompetent Humans are in this world, which is all demonstrated in videogames, when something is someone's fault, but he or she blames it on you or another individual.

Humans are too afraid to admit their mistakes, which makes them retarded to the highest regard. I'd say next time ignore them so if they do report you, there can be an easy appeal. However, given that the players you were referring to blamed you Udyr Alistar Ryze and they seemed to be too afraid to admit that they did feed the other team, I'd say they're the ones who deserve the report.

But I won't be too lively on that conclusion unless I've seen the entire match, which is probably by now inaccessible.

LaceUp238 votes

I'm going to be honest here, your punishment was for asking to report them. I was also punished, not 2 week suspension but chat banned for over 40 fucking games, for the same thing. I literally fought with support guy because he literally told me, "it is important to note you are doing nothing wrong." Like, wtf? Then I was on boards for too damn long trying to get Lyte. When I finally get an answer, I get, "There was a spike in toxicity on your account at X time. Asking to report other players is not acceptable. Instead, mute and wait till after the game to say something." This Lyte dude is honestly a fucking moron, and so is his automated bullshit system. It's sad that trolling doesn't get you punished, yet asking the troll to stop trolling does. Sometimes I wish I was stupid so that people's stupidity didn't bother me.

ResponsibleDad7 votes

This is dumb. They should lift the ban and give you a Pulsefire Ez skin as an apology.

Scary Door7 votes

Why do people feel they have to "defend themselves" against trolls. Trolls WANT you to react and "defend yourself", you played right into their hands. If you had said absolutely nothing the entire game and just quietly reported them at the end of the game then they would be the ones facing punishment (potentially) and not you.

The automated system is pretty terrible, there's no doubt about that, but you didn't exactly make a great case for yourself by asking for others to report someone.

Best advice you're ever going to get from this forum, and sadly it has to come from me, is: Shut the fuck up and just play the game, period.

Photos of Ghosts5 votes

All of what you said is wrong. These are not "trolls", these are people who are afraid of reality and use others as a scapegoat. Nothing of what he said is wrong in any way whatsoever. And this automated system is much better than what humans, in particular this community, could ever do, but its RARER mistakes are more bright and recognisable.

WhaiSoSerious7 votes

The system is flawed. When Riot's automated system is doing bans like these then it needs to be disabled completely until its completely flawless. People getting punished like this or getting strikes cause the system doesn't work to the best of its ability is irresponsible to say the least.

Honestly.. This system needs to be dropped completely. It obviously isn't doing a good job and it obviously benefits the trolls more than the people who are sincerely trying to enjoy the game.

Implementing a tribunal/report system in the first place was a terrible idea. If verbal abuse gets so severe that it truely offends someone then let that person screen shot and send in a ticket. I'm willing to bet that most people who report wouldn't even go through the effort of sending in a ticket simply because it's a temporary anger vs something that someone said that was TRUELY offensive. Everyone knows things said on the internet aren't to be taken serious.

Count Zubat6 votes

That's why Riot should launch tribunal as fast as possible: simply because human is better than algorithm. If tribunal would still exist, I highly doubt you would get ban, but with machine, it found something incorrect for itself, while nothing in behaviour was wrong. I hope we will see tribunal back next year :p

Don't worry, Rito is in the process of looking up 3 year old logs that show that he was actually once toxic in one game so they can throw it in his face and prove they are right. It's infallibility when any word that can even slightly be taken to be negative merits a ban and you have 3000 games to sort through. They can prove ANYONE has been toxic.

Such logic. Much wow. If a 5th grader was assaulted by three 6th graders, and sent them all to the hospital with broken ribs, why should the 5th grader be expelled from public school and have charges pressed against them, while having their family harassed by both the family of the aggressors, and nearly the entire town because their son acted in self defense?

I wish i was even joking. Thats actually a thing that happened; self defense is moot in this pathetic culture, where being the victim is glamorized and self-defense is criminalized.

That's not even what I did though. That would be closer to retaliating and I didn't resort to that. Most of my comments are merely admitting the mistake but explaining the situation after I got harassed. I guess in your analogy, I'd be the guy taking all the punches while saying "please stop it, I'm trying my best" LOL!

"awwwww sht i thought 2 autos would be enoguh man well it was worth a try he keep escaping on 5% hp"

Retaliating would be more like "screw you Udyr, you smug @hole - YOU SUCK! Worry about your own shitty play!" I never attacked players though. I tried to keep it civil despite the tension and stress from having 60% of your team use you as a scapegoat while dishing out harassment. It's actually pretty comical to see a 1/5 Ryze call me an idiot since I'm 0/2.

Also, I was trying my hardest the entire time and only responded when I was either dead or moving from the fountain to lane. It's not as if I sat in a corner to respond to them. I was the only one who didn't give up early.

BTW: Sorry for putting this in the wrong section. I hope a mod can move it. Thanks!

That automated system has been favoring trolls and toxic people for ages now. RIOT never says anything about trying to prevent them from abusing the system or anything about helping out those who were falsely punished. So honestly it just seems like they do not care and haven't cared for a long time now. I had one friend a while back who never really said anything (but played somewhat poorly) and still somehow got a chat ban, while other people who are just complete and total filth get off scot free. This automated system is a joke that RIOT will never even bother to fix. That's why this community is so shitty because trolls are free to do as they wish as long as they have enough people to gang up on someone innocent and given how many duo ques there are in ranked its not that hard.

Starlight Knight5 votes

Can we get some damn justice for this guy? Come on Riot, unban this dude and admit you were wrong. I don't see the point of forcing him to serve this punishment just because he got falsely reported and your derp of a system decided that he was guilty. Come on. It's not fair to him and it's not making you look any better.

This thread has gotten a lot of visibility and I'm sure someone at Riot must have seen it. It's also almost 3 weeks without a response to my last e-mail. They don't care enough to really address my concerns and I'm tired of jumping through hoops.

I made this thread so that the flaws in the system can be dealt with. Getting unbanned was secondary. I spent countless hours offering feedback. They'd prefer to pretend everything is perfect.

I've been toxic as possible, and I still manage to get 4 people banned who think they are going to get me banned. It is hilariously easy to report someone for verbal abuse when you harass the hell out of them and then they talk back.

I love doing it. It makes my day to ruin these kids accounts because the system muhPHD-Lyte has in place is a JOKE, an absolute JOKE. Lyte will NEVER admit he is wrong. They refuse to spend a little bit of their billions of dollars to hire a team of a dozen individuals and pay them even a measly $25,000 a year to spend 40 hours a week reviewing reports. This would be the easiest job and easiest fix, but they want to pocket every single possible cent.

Mark my words, as soon as this game even begins to start losing a big chunk of its playerbase-- they will shut this game down. They have a clause in the user agreement that they can terminate this game and not offer it anymore, ANYTIME THEY WANT. It will happen.

This game is a false for sure, but you don't get instantly thrown on a 14-day ban. it takes more than one game. So while this game may be wrong, you have to have been reported in other games, too, and it is HIGHLY unlikely that those other games were just like this one. I'm sorry that you got banned for a false positive in one game, but your other games may have thrown the system over.

Even if you're right that I'm not a model player each of the hundreds of games I play, the system counting false reports against me makes the punishments much more severe than is deserved. This is a fundamental problem with an automated system lacking true oversight. For example, the game discussed in this thread is what lead to me going from unrestricted even in chat to banned in a matter of minutes. Whether or not you can dig deep through the countless games I played and find an example of toxicity is irrelevant. The point is that if not for these false reports, my account would not be banned so there is clearly something wrong in the calibration. I linked the thread with logs to a time I got chat restricted and they're not too different from what's here.

The bewildering part to me isn't just that I got punished but that it went straight to banning me without any chat restriction or anything. Everyone blows off some steam at times but I'm never malicious about it and do my best to avoid it. I don't instigate etc. Barring false reports, I don't think my toxicity level would ever have been high enough to flag the system even for as much as a chat restriction. Getting punished isn't usually because of a one-time lapse in judgment. It is due to a pattern. False reports bring you much closer to the point where you get punished or banned.

This isn't the first game where I got reported falsely. I've seen players claim false reports on my account quite a few times. I remember just a few days ago when I said I was an inexperienced Ahri but wanted to play her anyway once I didn't get my primary role. I explained that this isn't to punish them but just because I think that's what would be most fun. One player in particular spammed requests for reports on me the whole game and even in the lobby. The funny thing is that I performed well, had the most damage and we won the game. It's also not a crime to play champions you're less experienced with in ranked. It may not be ideal but I don't find the normal games that stimulating and the victories feel less earned so I stick with ranked. If playing Ahri while not being great with her is an offense then every person playing a newly released champion in ranked should get banned too.

I think a lot of what leads to many false reports for me in particular is my discussion style. If someone demands a report, I'll calmly ask them why and contradict them if it's clearly wrong. You saw this here too when I was accused of intentionally feeding and refusing to communicate. I try to refute unsound arguments which unfairly characterize me. I think this makes some guys mad because they realize they're wrong and have no basis for what they say. Some might just mute them and be done with it. Others might call them a few swear words and leave it at that too. Having their arguments dismantled is probably way more annoying to them than if someone spewed a few angry insults etc.

It is basically against the summoner code to "report beg" read on for explanation. DO NOT ASK ANYONE (your team or enemy team) TO REPORT A PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may, inform others of their behavior. "Hey, looks like our (insert champ here) is just walking up to bot lane and standing under their turret." NOT "REPORT (x champ) FOR FEEDING."

Just the words in all chat "Report Weasel" is enough for a negative attitude or if enough request (3 or more imo) are made, verbal abuse harassment.

Now, you did do that, you requested reports for team mates. Did they deserve them? Probably, should you go around report begging? No.

Why is "report begging" bad? Its just about as toxic as you can get actually. Its a threat, "Il come to your house and rape you" isnt a nice thing to say to anyone during any online game (Iv been told this, but not in LoL yet... yet.), but its a substancless threat more than likely from a 13 year old lifetime virgin with emotional issues off their meds.

"Reported" though is an actual threat, one that can be carried out, and one with perceived or real damage to the one threatened. Ala bans/chat restriction on the account, deserved or not.

Once the "Reported" comments start flying, the match has about a 61.7% chance of derailing into a raging novel typing fuck you competition, than an actual match... therefor, threatening reports, or begging for them is a one trick turn down doo doo brown toxic town road.

Long story short, maybe they started it, but you joined in effectively in their game. Dont report beg, just mute and if you feel they deserve it, report.

There's nothing in the Summoner's Code about asking for a report and your analogy is preposterous. To claim that you can't ask for a FEATURE BUILT INTO THE GAME to be used is absurd. People make their own decisions anyway and you're merely offering an opinion. For example, the enemy team often asks for reports on a "rager" but I don't report if I haven't witnessed it myself.

Unless it's spammed or clearly unfounded, that hardly qualifies as harassment. I can't even count the number of times the enemy team had a rage quit and asked for afk reports or when someone was intentionally feeding and again reports were requested. This is just natural human behavior when an injustice is observed and that's what the report feature is meant to correct. A guy is calling you every name in the book and you get punished if you stand up and ask your peers to help make the game a better experience? To punish the people who are the victims of the injustice just for bringing it to light seems backwards and frankly immoral.

Preposterous you say?

No argument that justice should be served. You must not have read my post very well. I said you can call out behavior "Hey, so and so is AFK." That is fine. Also I said "technically" as in its not listed verbatim right there in section 6 line 4, sub secti..... you get it... but you linked the summoners code... go read section 7 again. It dosnt say dont make threats against other players.... so it dosnt say it, so it must be ok? You and I both know better.

Announcing you are reporting someone or asking for reports is toxic, its a threat. It is, you may disagree, others may also... consider this.

You see, if ur in a match and someone says right to you. "GO FUCK YOURSELF AND DIE IN A FIRE, I WISH YOUR MOTHER HAD ABORTED YOU THEN DIED OF THE CANCER THAT YOU ARE YOU BITCH PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!!" You dont get off free by responding with "I hope you die and make the world better, go ahead slit your wrist Il know you did it when you go afk downsbaby." In this situation the first person was definitely wrong, but so was the second for responding in a toxic manner as well.

Two wrongs dont make a right. Informing people of behavior such as feeding, afk, toxic chat is ok, but when "reported" starts flying around, its going to get ugly. Saying reported or asking for reports just makes things worse. Mute people, I use it, its great. I can sometimes even alter behavior by asking "should I just mute u now?" That tends to let them know theyre sounding like an ass, chills them a bit.

Asking for a report is not akin to a threat. This is a game feature born out of necessity and one can offer an opinion on its use. By this logic, is asking the jungler to ping a gank incredibly toxic too? If one is not allowed to even discuss a game feature's use, perhaps it should be removed. A threat would be "if I don't get X, I'll do Y". For example, if I don't get Blue, I'll AFK. Asking for a report doesn't even fit the logical structure of a threat and stretching it to encompass that is laughable. What's next? Are you going to say muting players is "Refusing to Communicate"? Riot really needs less vague guidelines so we don't have to depend on the increasingly uncommon "common sense."

You state that asking for a report (apparently regardless of context, politeness or validity) is "just about as toxic as you can get." Really, asking for people who are intentionally ruining the game experience to be addressed is among the most toxic behaviors in the game? Racial slurs, death threats, and the multitude of other toxic statements/behaviors are on par with wanting a better game experience in the future? You then continue explaining how this is like threatening someone with rape. "Its a threat, "Il come to your house and rape you" isnt a nice thing to say"" Again, are you serious right now? This is perhaps the most comically exaggerated analogy I've ever read regarding a game feature. Bodily harm and abuse is not in the same ball-park as offering an opinion on a feature meant to improve the community.

Asking for a report "isnt a nice thing to say"? What about the people being punished by the trolls and toxic players? How can we improve the system and community if even daring to bring attention to these players puts your own account in danger? Reality isn't always nice. Yelling "Fire!" in a movie theater isn't nice either. Some people want to watch the show and have a fun relaxing time. However, sometimes there really is a goddamn fire and you better step out of la la land to deal with it. Not everything that "isn't nice" is actually toxic. Many statements are just a reflection of reality or fairly neutral.

You're right that two wrongs don't make a right but asking for a report isn't in the same category as retaliation like "I hope you die and make the world better, go ahead slit your wrist Il know you did it when you go afk downsbaby." Asking for a report, unless spammed and obviously unfair, is bringing negative behavior to light so that other players will hopefully encounter it less. The example you give makes absolutely no sense here. You're equating two very different behaviors. Asking for a report is more like telling your neighbors to call the police when you're getting mugged. By your analogy, the person getting mugged would then start mugging people. This is not the same scenario anymore.
