Game. Play. This is a game, and players play this game. Games are meant to be fun, even if just for one side of the game, they are still meant to be fun. When people complain that gameplay is no longer fun, they are not personally insulting a bunch of people at RIOT. Well... usually. When people are making complaints, or making posts approving of something, within the realm of gameplay it is because either 'A' is fun to them, or 'A' is not fun to them.

Far too often you see people begin to shriek, rage, go toxic etc because this game does not mean 'Fun' to them. It has become something else in their lives. They aren't here for fun. Most often the excuse you see is:

Well league is a competitive game. This isn't the place for fun.

I hate to tell you, but there are mods in Minecraft that make it competitive too. Woopty do. It is still a GAME. Most of the people I've seen banned from this game, or shunned from the rest of the community, are those who spend most games raging at their teammates because they are playing for fun. It even goes into the 'goofy' modes like Urf, ARAM and Nexus Blitz.

Let me outline a few simple truths for you, and maybe you can view League a bit differently:

  • You can buy diamond accounts from plenty of websites for 20 bucks. Nobody cares. Your ELO doesn't make you a better judge of what is fun to someone else. This isn't a joke, it's a simple fact, and why most of the player base doesn't even care about ranked. If you aren't Challenger, your rank doesn't mean crap to anyone else except you.
  • If you aren't having fun with the game, you are exponentially raising your odds of being banned. Each and every game you enter that just pisses you off, you are more likely to do something that will result in your removal. If you aren't having fun, honestly, go play something else for a bit. Hell I just spent 6 months playing TERA because it amused me for a bit. Now I'm having fun again.
  • Believing things such as "Well, in the high tier games 'X' is true" does nothing for 90% of the player base. If you honestly believe all there is to a game is a level of play that most of the players will never achieve, See: Point 1.
  • Nothing in this game is worth anything outside of this game. Honestly. Once you log out? Nobody else cares in the rest of the world. If your achievements here are all you feel you have, you honestly need to take a break from the game. When that becomes your reality, once the game BREAKS, so do you.

So, guys and girls, relax. Have fun. Yes, people will make really ridiculous claims about gameplay, mechanics, and other things. Yes, they will often be wrong. Historically, most of the playerbase has been utterly wrong about what we've wanted, what we needed, and what we wind up with. So, be kinder to each other, and HAVE FUN.

That last part is what separates Game Play from LIfe.

raging at their teammates because they are playing for fun

This is just... incorrect. In the same way that getting mad at your second baseman if he's just moonwalking and lets grounders go past him isn't getting mad at him for "playing for fun."

People get mad at others when they decide to do something that isn't in line with playing the PvP team mode. You can "play for fun" all you want in customs against AI. No one is stopping you. But if you decide that you want to play with a team of real players against a team of real players, then you're agreeing to abide by rule four of the Summoner's Code-- Have fun, but not at your allies' expense-- or should expect punishment.

There's a mode available for people who want to play the game, but not be a team player.

I full agree with you. I only play in norms cause I play to play and have fun. I never do ranked cause there are too many competitive assholes who will do anything, and I do mean anything, to win and what is at the top of the ranked totem pole ain't even worth it. honestly if every player from every server took a survey on why they play, either to win or have fun, I bet RP that at least 75% will say to win. honestly I don't see a reason to win and get to the top of the totem pole. and riot supports the competition side of the game cause it makes them money (i.e. Worlds). even though they are twisting the game to where it is no long about skill and more about who can do most damage the fastest. but listen to me rant, I play to have fun. I don't care about the statistics of the game. KDA, who to pick, ban, gold and time management, CS, Vision, none of that. none of it matters to me. if my team wins then good. If not oh well. it is not the end of the world. League is just a game. not the Hunger Games, not The Purge, and certainly not WWIII. but long as there is a ranking system there will always be competitive people.
