"Games Change... Adapt or Leave."

Cats Are Food··160 votes·21,974 views

Is the most idiotic response to a gameplay complaint that anyone ever started. It's a shame it has become such a trendy piece of garbage to spout, as if it somehow proves someone's point.

"I won't tell you why you are wrong, because I have no actual counter point, and therefore your statement is stupid."

Exactly how it reads.

A lot of us here, especially on these boards, have played this game 8-9+ years. We've adapted, changed, and manipulated play styles countless times over this decade. For some player who popped their head on seven and a half years after this game started to respond to, often admittedly invalid, complaints by telling them "well, adapt. The game changes." Is a lot like me telling you "Welp, people die. Move on" when a loved one passes away.

It's a useless statement that contributes nothing to the player's knowledge, does nothing to change their outlook, and simply makes you to be an ass. When a player is wrong, which we all are occasionally... point out WHY you feel they are wrong. Actually contribute.

Edit: Meant to hit General Chat Edit 2: No where in this post do I say anything, anything, anything... ANYTHING... about RIOT, the state of the game, any champions etc. This post has nothing to do with anything other than how players treat other players. Edit 3: Wtf happened here? I never intended this post to explode into insanity. [zombie-brand-facepalm]

They only say that because they don't actually have anything meaningful to say, but they still don't like it when other people insult Riot, their grand savior and protector who cannot be criticized ever. Of course, they're casually ignoring the fact that Riot isn't some small time indie dev anymore and they don't need nobodies to come to their defense every time someone is "mean" to them or hurts the "balance" teams' feelings.

TBH they'd be better off just not saying anything.

But it's the truth isn't it? The game changed, adapt or lose elo. League has always been like this.

GelsominoKiller19 votes

This is very true. However, while we may have had some disliking for this or that particular meta over the years, this time we're asked to adapt to a dumbed down mockery of what we used to love.

We deeply despise this new direction and "adapting" this time is something we're unwilling to do. I'd rather leave than adapt in order to perform competitively at something that I consider exremely unfun.

Entei2 votes

Why do you guys even care about meta? I got to diamond playing the champions I liked and it was FUN (atleast for me). I still do trolls with my friends in flex like voli and ornn bot and we are doing FUN. What I want to say is you can play every champ you want and if you are good with him, you can hit masters easily.

I got to d2 this season playing udyr top, planning to hit masters this season. I don't know if you see a lot of udyr top in your elo (whatever it is) but I don't see anyone who plays it.

It does hurt tho when your champion is getting nerfed so hard that you can't play it anymore the way you did before.

But if it does happen to you, it means you play a meta champion that literly everyone abuses. That's why udyr didn't get a buff/nerf for almost 2 years I think.

I do think that the game was a lot funnier back in the days, where you could go 2 v 2 in top, getting the first blood in 0:40 of the game.

Meta changes, its true, but you don't have to move on with the meta like a lot of players does.

GelsominoKiller2 votes

Maybe it's my personal experience, but I used to play whatever the fuck I wanted. I still do it, to an extent. Now, I feel like I can't anymore.

Years ago, I used to love Nautilus jungle. Me and maybe 3 other people worldwide played Nautilus jungle. I got flamed pretty often for "troll picking" in champ select. I played him a lot, and was incredibly successful with him in my elo. I was the first to say: "play what you want and you will win regardless". But then 2 years ago I started picking him again, and oh boi was I struggling... in gold elo. Mind you, I started one tricking WW as he was released and got to D5 (solo) and D1 (flex) steadily fast (65% wr). I found more success with playing a brand new champ I knew nothing about, than with my beloved main I have had experience for years. This is when I realized that league balance wasn't what it used to be, and you were allowed to play only a (maybe wide) selection of meta champions.

I was literally dying in the jungle with him, and all the champions I used to be deceptively able to duel now were oneshotting me. I was coming from a 2-year break from lol, so I felt the hit like a truck.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

It's not a meta problem. The meta has remained relatively untouched throughout the endish of the season to now. It's just that damage is going higher and higher and as we've seen they have no intention of slowing down.

The champions I play are typically not meta or unpopular but I play them simply cuz I like their theme or kit and do just fine (D3 last season... was D1 a week before it ended rip end of season games).

So yeah, I'm adapting to meta shifts just fine but SR's "burst or be bursted" meta just feels so hollow compared to previous seasons. NB on the other hand is always a blast and is really the main reason I'm still here right now.

Yeah, I am one of the people who defend Riot at the moment, never said anything like Adapt or Leave. Since it is a sigh of no argument, but I all the people who do defend Riot or at least to my knowledge, does not say Adapt or Leave. The posed has made a false allegation towards people who still enjoy the game and finds good reasons as to why you are wrong. Cat Are Food is defending people who attacking Riot with zero arguments or reason, other than this or this made me mad, that is unacceptable, must be changed.

I get the frustration, and why some people are mad, but you need good reasoning and explanation as too such and such should be changed. We who defend Riot do come with valid arguments but are drowned out by the hatred that lies about us and our love for the game.

Sorry for loving the game, sorry for actually giving a shit about facts, sorry for defending Riot.

But this post will never change the game, and the people like Cat Are Food will never make the game better. Sorry, but it is the truth.

Cats Are Food18 votes

Cute. So, because I tell people to contribute to the conversation, I can't make the game better? Go look up what my summoner Icon means. Get back to me.

HyperTechno4 votes

What are you arguing? Other than saying "because I tell people to contribute to the conversation, I can't make the game better?" Then rambling about people who defend Riot are unfactual morons.

The summoner Icon has nothing to do with your ability to change the game, poor argument. You also have to ask yourself, will the millions of players agree or care. You have 2 thousand people, only 35 agree. Only, 0.018% of the 2k people agreed, and out of 1 million 0.000035% agreed. Way to start a conversation.

Now you have to answer my questions: Give me all the posts and exact placement of every Adapt or Leave argument made by a person who protects Riot. Give me a reason to believe all the hate Riot receives, why it is justified, and why the millions should give a shit. (With the exception of the farting in employers faces and doing sexual harassment to both men and women story. That is completely understandable hate.)

Though I agree, the "Adapt or Leave" argument is stupid and is not a valid argument, I do not see how you making such an allegation would change the game since 90% of the post would be easily disproved or more than 99% of the community could care less.

Cats Are Food14 votes

I never said anything about people defending RIOT, at all. I made a post about one, singular, phrase and mindset.

You're going off on me for no reason. Someone ELSE said it. Have a nice day.

Concerning my summoner icon, it's because - generally - the players in my game have a good time, stop arguing when they start, and enjoy playing with me. Toxicity tends to stay fairly low with the right jokes, banter, and talking to. Even my opponents. That's a change the game needs now days.

HyperTechno2 votes

Mate, I wish the Icon would make it easier for you to change the game. But respect towards your good behavior in the game.

However, I was not trying to attack you, except for asking a real question. How are you expecting 2K to 1 million people to give a damn? Dude, I get that you want to help, but already you are making yourself the victim when you specifically talked about people being idiots for saying, "Games Change, Adapt or Leave." but bringing no evidence to the table. You are bound to get messages from people like me who want answers to your claim.

Is the most idiotic response to a gameplay complaint that anyone ever started. It's a shame it has become such a trendy piece of garbage to spout, as if it somehow proves someone's point.

When and where have you seen those responses?

None of us expect anybody to have played this fucking game for 8-9 years or be a highly skilled player to have valid points, but we want helpful criticism, evidence, and most of all no ranting.

At this point, you are acting out as the victim, and I am not falling for that shit. Take what you have, if you do not like it, then help them fix it. I am not telling you to leave, but I am telling you that those people who said, "adapt or leave" are a problem and would not fix the game. However, since it unclear of when or where this has happened it is hard for me to help you or take you seriously.

By the way, yes you did attack the people defending Riot. "Is the most idiotic response to a gameplay complaint that anyone ever started." They are wrong, and they are not fixing anything, however, I dough they exist.

My only advice is then, state it very clear that you are on both sides of the argument. Also, do not use the name calling fallacy, it discredits your argument.

Again, he states nothing that backs up the claim he made. Secondly, I never disagree with his argument about people being stupid for saying, "game changed... adapt or leave" because they are, that is what got EA in the shit hole in the first place. Thirdly, he never criticized the other side and because of the title it easy to be misguided to think it is against the people who defend Riot.

Such as the comment I replied to, who is an idiot as well:

They only say that because they don't actually have anything meaningful to say, but they still don't like it when other people insult Riot, their grand savior and protector who cannot be criticized ever. Of course, they're casually ignoring the fact that Riot isn't some small time indie dev anymore and they don't need nobodies to come to their defense every time someone is "mean" to them or hurts the "balance" teams' feelings.

TBH they'd be better off just not saying anything.

Because for the most part, everything written against Riot is, nerf, delete, nerf, delete, or champion is broken, with zero evidence or good reason. Why should I not tell them why they are wrong? Because if I do not, the board would still be flooded with blah blah blah.

The initial message I agree on, however, he must state it very clear that he is against rambling on both sides and he means that for a specific group and not all. He writes it as if everyone writes this as a comment on a post that attacks Riot.

Marshbouy also stresses another issue I have with this post which he wrote well. Cats Are Food forgets Context. CONTEXT!

I am done. Seeing how people are defending Anatera, I think I know what the board's mindset is. Defend people who do not want to fix their mistake and upvote anything that goes against Riot. Because everything is never your fault.

Bye.

HÔPÊ1 votes

My only advice is then, state it very clear that you are on both sides of the argument. Also, do not use the name calling fallacy, it discredits your argument.

When I see something stupid I call it stupid. I am an asshole and I will never try to hide it because I am genuine and honest.

Because for the most part, everything written against Riot is, nerf, delete, nerf, delete, or champion is broken, with zero evidence or good reason.

Most of the things that I read here are "nerf this, because this and this" they add some reasoning behind their thoughts. Feelings about something don't come from thin air. For example, when I say that Neeko has too much dmg, which is true, and you say that she has low win rate, I don't give a shit. She is unbalanced and has too much damage, because her design is based on "she is only useful if she has dmg" logic. Think about her kit. She cannot be nerfed so that she is balanced, if she gets nerfed she will be useless, if she gets buffed she will be broken. There is no middle ground for this champion. That is how bad design looks like and I will abuse her, until they rework her again.

Also none of her abilities are polished. Her ult doesn't even fit in her kit. Her w cannot change directions. Her q isn't even connected to her lore. Her e is ... lux q. Also not connected with her lore. She is a fucking cameleon, they could add some tongue attack or something.

There is no argument that is more meaningful that the other. There is good argument, the valid one and the bad argument, based on bad understanding of the topic. Before you look at something in a way "Riot is, nerf, delete, nerf, delete, or champion is broken" first read the reasoning behind that statement, because it might be valid. Even if there is some bullshit in there, if you counter his point and he seems to understand your thought, he might change his mind in a way.

For example now I know that I was wrong about tiamat. I thought that it will completely fuck Shaco. It didn't. I am still a god on him. Had to change my clear, yes, but it still didn't fuck me as hard as I thought it would. (me not playing the game too much is not only connected with League being shit, but also with PoE being ... too good)

The initial message I agree on, however, he must state it very clear that he is against rambling on both sides and he means that for a specific group and not all. He writes it as if everyone writes this as a comment on a post that attacks Riot.

He is a player, not a journalist. Being "very clear" and "specific" is hard. Even you are bad at it. Gosh. Even journalists are bad at it. Actually they are even worse than me. What we do on boards is often, venting our anger off. We are frustrated because that fucking malphite inted 12 times. Because Zoe oneshot us from the other side of the map. Because Rengar point and clicked us to death with a single combo. There is too much bullshit in the game at the moment. I remember times, when 3 champions were broken and you just banned them. Now 20 champions are broken and we have 10 bans, that can be the same sometimes.

If you are mad at players that complain, look at who created this situation. Riot has the worst PR in the whole gaming enviournment. Ok, Blizzard is worse. But still, Riot is disconnected with their playerbase, because they want to please Chineese players. They didn't try to reach to playerbase. Never did they try to talk with their playerbase. Do you see any response on boards from Riot? Do you see such responses anywhere else?

Riot is responsible for this horrible situation, in which the playerbase is divided. A huge amount of players is unhappy (actually go into a game and ask people, gather info for a month and you will see that it is actually majority). Riot is a bad company. This is why I spend more time playing Path of Exile. Grinding Gear Games listens to playerbase, the game is progressing and seems so fun to play. Playerbase is happy. They all the time talk about PoE as a good game and PoE exists since 2013. You would expect people to get bored with the game and they don't. Each new season more people turn up and the game is getting bigger and bigger with each free expansion. Playerbase knows that GGG care about them and they appreciate it.

I mean, the only people responsible for this mess are Riot employees. If they listened to playerbase from the start. From S1. Then we wouldn't be in this place to begin with. The game should be created for players, but at this moment the playerbase is divided and cannot be united anymore. In gaming industry a company has only one chance. They can never make a mistake. They need to be connected with playerbase.

Now we see how big companies are falling and failing their players. None of them was trying to create a community. I would even say that Riot talk about League community, but I don't see any. We are all divided. Can't call that a community. They should have listened to playerbase from S1 and work with the community, they disregarded them and now we are in this mess because of that.

I love PoE. I loved League. There is just too much bullshit in the game for me to enjoy it. I will hit master and give up on League in this season. I am fully moving to PoE.

"Give me a reason to believe all the hate Riot receives, why it is justified, and why the millions should give a shit. (With the exception of the farting in employers faces and doing sexual harassment to both men and women story. That is completely understandable hate.)"

They're changing the game to better benefit their Asian audience (mainly China) as opposed to appealing to the west where the game was initially nurtured and loved.

Another reason? They hardly ever listen to the community, and if they do it's half-arsed.

They never do live Q&As or actively respond to their playerbase because they're too scared of the backlash and they know they'll get decimated, so they choose to hide behind their identities and slink back into the shadows of /r/LeagueOfLegends and Boards where they have the power to silence those who tell the truth; or let their hoard of fanboys defend them (most of which are new players and/or metaslaves who jerk off the Asian competitive scene, dawning it "the best thing" they've ever watched).

They ruin champions through reworks for the most part and then it takes them almost 2 years to respond to a champion they've left in the dust.

They directly copy other successful features from successful companies/corporations. E.g. A direct ripoff of Facebook's UI layout for the main client menu, loot boxes linked to progression, faster games to optimise experience for internet/LAN cafe users.

Except they don't have any of the features we've actually been asking for such as: A 3d model viewer for ALL skins, a proper optimised practice/sandbox tool, more than 1 permanent gamemode (ARAM and standard 5v5 may as well be the same thing) and user option editing for custom games (e.g. removing cooldowns, buffing/nerfing damage, buffing/nerfing champs, ability draft in that custom game). Oh, and a tool for users to create their own maps and champs and such specifically for custom games.

Honestly that last point alone is enough reason to hate Riot. The only reason DOTA 2 isn't taking over by storm is because of its generally frustrating mechanics and somewhat slow gameplay. Other than that DOTA 2 is just better than League in every single way (outside of its recent balance history, which was taken from LoL's influence). Seriously, why does LoL still not have options for users to change to create their own custom gamemodes? Why is there only one mode?????

Oh yeah also, that woman in that article was found to be openly lying, so just this one time I can say that Riot Games definitely did not promote sexism in its general workplace stations. Just thought I'd comment on that.

"The summoner Icon has nothing to do with your ability to change the game, poor argument. "

Not true actually, the fact he's an honourable opponent means he's likely a half-decent player and he's sportsmanlike, which is THE stellar example of what every player should be like.

"Give me all the posts and exact placement of every Adapt or Leave argument made by a person who protects Riot."

Any post/reply made by that "PikaFox" kid (the ADC guy) who says to quit the game cause "you're bad". Any reply that just outright or indirectly says it in response to a player venting their frustrations about the game and saying they're going to quit if nothing changes. This happens more than you think since the new members of the community have this toxic mentality similar to that of "this place ain't big enough for the both of us" and they want veteran players gone because they're apparently outdated and don't understand what good game design looks like.

If you want me to give you exact posts and replies I'm more than happy to stay up 'till 4 in the morning looking just to prove a point, but you have eyes don't you? You find them, they're pretty easy to find.

Expressing your concerns and dissatisfaction with something in an attempt to actually improve it (I'm talking about constructive criticism, not some petty posts filled with unsubstantiated crying) shouldn't be met with "oh don't like it? leave the game, no one cares".

It's only an idiotic response when used in the wrong context.

Responding "games change, adapt or leave" to someone saying "I no longer enjoy the current meta" is idiotic because enjoyment is subjective and its difficult to adapt how you have fun.

Responding "games change, adapt or leave" to someone saying "I can't win on (insert champion) anymore because riot nerfed them from being freelo", "I can no longer win by treating top lane as an island and ignoring everything else until 20 min", "why can't I win games when I play jungle?", etc.. isn't idiotic. It's not particularly constructive, it's not that helpful, and it's not nice,

but it's not wrong either. It's just crude and basic. The specifics of "the game has changed" and "adapt" depend heavily on what strategies you're talking about. It can be as obvious as "you can't win on poppy anymore by building item 3078 item 3087 item 3031 because the game has changed" to as complicated and in depth as "as the meta has shifted over the years, you're going to need to shift your playstyle in the jungle to be more gank focused because, with the removal of feral flare and later devourer, farm heavy junglers are far less effective than they once were. Here is how you need to change up your playstyle in order to be more effective, starting with..."

Context is everything and I'm not sure I even addressed the point you were making in this post because it's so open ended and basic, but I tried.

"Adapt or leave" is a rephrasing of "love it or leave it," more formally known as the false dichotomy fallacy. When applied to a business's products and services, it ends up harming the business, as customers leave the business relationship rather than trying to maintain it.

That is a logical fallacy. They could just as easily ignore the response. Until mods just remove topics like that, they are spreading their negativity and people have a right to voice their disapproval of that.

Cats Are Food3 votes

At that point, the user has already had to read the topic and see it in the list of "Best" topics. Your argument of "They can post, but you shouldn't respond" is flawed. Voicing disapproval of the way someone constructs their post is just as important as debating the content of the post.

On the plus side, I have taken the advice and quit, and I'm having much more fun on other games. I will probably return in the future, so it's more a break per say, but I stand by my sentiment that damage is too high, people die too quickly, that is not fun.

Is the most idiotic response to a gameplay complaint that anyone ever started. Its a shame it has become such a trendy piece of garbage to spout, as if it somehow proves someones point.

In reality it's the most truthful response whether you like it or not.

I had a similar experience with World of Warcraft. I had really started playing it since Cataclysm. I stopped playing at Legion expansion because it was nothing like the WoW I first played it as years later. Made absolutely no difference how long I had been playing compared to the guy/girl next to me. Not sure why you think length of time played is relevant. It just makes you come off as entitled, which I know you don't mean to. Regardless, the league you remember is gone. The league I am playing is new to me. Let that sink in for a moment...

However, shit posting the game will get nothing done. Either you accept it, or move on friend.
