Tips For Level 30s

You're level 30 now, and thrown into the mix with everybody else. You still don't know jack about the game, but you sure think you do. You've watched the streams, and your "friend plays like this." Here are some tips to help you not get screamed at by your team, or just disappointed sighs:

  • Wards Are Vital. They are so vital that they even give you free ones. If you can't make yourself remember to drop wards places, swap it out for a sweeper and use it when you go through bushes. At least contribute. It isn't Mid Lane or the Jungles' responsibility to watch your bushes during laning.

  • Don't AFK Farm. What does this mean? You've likely seen it. Team fights going down, objectives being fought over... and some player thinks it's best for them to be half a map away just farming. Not pushing, just amassing gold all game. Don't do that, the game is 5v5 for a reason. Wave clearing is useful, but make sure you are still taking part in your team.

  • Your Teammates Didn't Kill You. This is an easy logic trap to fall in to. Even the best players sometimes stumble into this, and it's the leading causes of being banned due to raging afterwards. Nobody... NOBODY... is responsible for your game play but you. If you die, it's entirely on you. Being near an idiot shouldn't make you one.

  • Early Kills Do Not Make You Immortal. Most raging I have seen in my years in this game come from those who get fed early, and then abandon all concepts of positioning or timing. They think they've become immortal due to wrecking the other team early on, and ultimately pride loses it for them. Don't do that. Keep the same caution from level 1 until the Nexus falls.

  • Objectives Speaking of the Nexus, let's make one thing abundantly clear. Objectives matter. They can matter more than any form of personal score you get, other than maybe objective kills. Pay attention to Dragons, Herald/Baron, Towers and inhibitors. You can lose a 40-15 game if they are controlling all the objectives. One ace and a baron push can easily completely turn the game against you.

  • Certain Champions Are Broken We all know. No reason to rage about them, just because you didn't ban them.

  • Positioning Is Everything. Most of the broken champions are broken because position doesn't mean anything to them. They can negate it, or create it, however they want. Think Yasuo's windwall, and watch it soak all five ults from your team without flinching. That said, you need to pay attention to how you are positioned in relation to the other team. Learning the ranges of every skill, knowing what's in the bushes around you, and flanking the enemy will turn a team fight into a guaranteed victory.

  • Knowledge Is Powerful. Are you in Ezreal's range? If so expect pain. Does Skarner have his ult up? Might want to stay back if squishy. Is there an Elise in that bush? Stay away from it. This feeds into Wards and Positioning as well. The more you know about what items who has, what ults and skills are down, and where opponents are on the map is the difference between a defeat and a victory.

  • Finally The Meta is the meta for a reason, but raging at your teammates if they seem to be slightly breaking it just ruins the game. A lot of times, even if the Meta Breaker is doing very well... someone will still be shrieking at them. Usually the person shrieking is losing their lane and feeding, because they are too busy worried about what another player is doing.

Pay attention to what YOU are doing. If you spend all game worried about someone else, you are very unlikely to win. You can still win with one feeder, if someone else fails, but you can easily make it two feeders for no good reason.

In conclusion just have fun, enjoy the game, and don't be jerks.

Agree with a chunk of it - except the AFK farming bit and your teamates not killing you.

First the AFK Farming: I would modify it slightly - farming minions and clearing waves still has a role in the game even after the outer towers fall. Remember that a tower falling to minions is not just lost gold from the minions but it also feeds a large chunk of gold into the coffers of the enemy team. So, it is not a case of drop everything to fight - but make a careful and balanced choice before heading to wave clear or join up with your team. (The players who have good waveclear should be the ones heading to top or bottom to clear those waves. And it should rarely be the jungler.)

Second: BTW, teammates can kill you. If you ever played support, then you know that this can be the case - especially if you are trying to save that one guy who thinks he can 2 v 4. Or that adc who refuses to use heal to save you. Or the situation where you have the botcarry you are supporting plays so risky that he is putting both botlaners at risk. Or the situation where a member of a duo-queue won't peel for the squishy support but he will peel for his bruiser buddy. If this is the case, then keep an eye on the mini-map, play cautiously, realize that your teammates are playing selfishly and play to avoid giving away the second kill to the enemy.

Also I would also add the following- and I call this the 'Level Math' rule. Before engaging in a melee, look carefully at the levels, items and farm of your team and the enemy before diving in. Ask yourself - how many of your champs are ahead - compared to theirs? Having spent a bit of time in normals this season (after deliberately boycotting ranked this season), I have seen far too many players head right into a battle - not realizing that they are grossly behind in items and experience - and promptly get punished for their ignorance.

I agree on the first, disagree on the second. If you sacrifice yourself in a blatantly unwinnable battle it's really on you for sticking to the suicide.

I figured your last bit fell under Knowledge Is Powerful, but I was trying to keep it concise.

I've found sometimes I can have massively underfarmed allies especially when I won jungle really hard and we lose because my allies won't stop running it down. So you're right, farming has its place for sure!

If you think your ally can't kill you, then you clearly don't get bad ganks from your jungler that won't stop feeding your lane opponent(s) or you don't play bottom/support with a lane partner that is sabotaging your lane because your champion pick or rune page didn't meet their expectation. And that's saying nothing about the potential of being killed by body-blocking. So again, I agree that backstabbing is a thing in LoL.

See... both of those instances are where they ultimately set you up, wherein you eventually die due to being completely outscaled or farmed. Not quite what I was referring to.

Think of how many times you have seen this:

Jungler: "Dammit! Why didn't you use Heal?!" ADC: "Well... you dove at low health, and were behind their tower when you died. You would never have made it out even if healed, but I would have had to end up flashing under the tower to even use it." Jungler: "SO?!?! Idiot, I MIGHT have made it, you could have tried!!!"

Most people who rage at players, blaming them for deaths, are generally the same who go very deep and leave their team far behind.

3TWarrior1 votes

I have never once seen that. I have seen someone rage at me for not using heal because it was on cooldown before though

most players don't expect other players to follow-up on their own engages unless it is incredibly obvious to do so, which is not a 40% health marksman diving into a fray and expecting heals from a support that can not match their engage and dying because they made a stupid decision

I adjusted the AFK farming section just a bit.

Pretty solid list. I applaud the OP for his or her effort in this contribution. Like man, boards kinda is a scary place for newbies most of the time lol. This is great :) Also fk, I was the 31st upvote for a thread titled "tips for lv 30s". Oh woe is me.

Anyways, regarding "Your teammates didn't kill you" part or just deaths in general here is my additional input:

Your death is most likely your mistake unless if it's a sacrificial play. For instance, I don't like it when my Leona or Alistar support plays like a Janna. Engage supports or champions in general should not be KDA players and should look for good initiations. This is not saying be reckless, a death is almost always a bad thing unless if you clearly took one for the team.

Like I'm scared to overemphasize this because there are a certain group of players that play engage supports and feed while saying "lol I'm support it doesn't matter". No, deaths do matter a lot **but there are rare situations where your death is literally necessary for a hero play that turns a game around. **

Small habit that is good: use death timers. Don't look at a grey screen until you can play again. Track the things that ultimately lead up to your death and learn to play around it next time. Yes the vayne E flashed you into a wall but you had flash up as well. Don't simply accept the outplay and think of countermeasures for the future.

TLTR: Your death is most likely your mistake unless if it was unavoidable in giving your team (yourself included) the best possible outcome.

tips for lvl 30's you are literally trash bc you have 0 mechanics you think you understand the game but ur still playing full attack speed life steal ww and backing after a ace. my only recommendation if this lvl 30 wants to get good or be at least average is to play over 8 hrs a day, spend the rest of the day analyzing skill capped guides and maybe just maybe you will achieve gold in ur first 3 season.

Who hurt you?

Cats Are Food5 votes

Eh Guessing he wasn't around for the YEARS we were all stuck at level 30 lol. Myself, I've seen level 220+s now who joined years after I did, mostly because I haven't played as much since the change.

That said - it tends to be the sentiments of people who've played a LOT, but not for LONG.

OP has many vital points. I would like to add if you are in a solo lane freeze the lane any chance you get. This means you do not want to aggresively push to your enemy’s tower very early. Preferably make your enemy do so. Seek to let the minions fight each other and only hit a low health minion once with an auto attack to get the gold. This will put your opponent at greater risk of getting killed by your jungler and gives you the safety of being near your tower. This is crucial in mid/high elo in particular.

Also going to add: limit champion pool Pick 2-3 champions for maybe 2-3 roles and learn them well. Learn to play a few champions really well rather than a large amount poorly. Don't believe me? I made it to plat on sion support alone and when hes banned I play a mean leona or taric.

Also add: O-b-j-e-c-t-i-v-e The game is not kills, the game is not score, the game is not about bm in the fountain its hitting the nexus. Take turrets, take dragons, take barons, you could be super behind in kills/gold but if your up in turrets/inhibs and are able to capitalize on an uncoordinated team, you can win it. One last thing HIT THE NEXUS, DONT DANCE/TAUNT/EMOTE, END THE GAME

Added Objectives.

If you want to improve as a player limit your champion pool to a select few champions (1-3) and really try to master them, many skills transfer between champions but are hard to get a grasp on if you cantinue trying new champions instead of getting really good with a few. Many pro players started out by playing only a single champion until high elo.

Honestly a quality post even for people beyond level 30 that are still new to the game. Community would be a lot better if they played with this mindset instead of the "blame it on [ally]" method of playing. :P Thanks for the post!

Teammates CAN kill you, ask the Tahm Kench who spits his adc into the enemy turret, the kindred who saves enemy lives and maybe the taliyah who locked me in with their team with her ult.

Certain Champions Are Broken We all know. No reason to rage about them, just because you didn't ban them.

This is terrible advice. Players should be taught to overcome obstacles, not give up and whine. They must always learn to play better, then it won't matter if the enemy player has a champion that's a little bit better than yours. A plat Riven isn't going to lose lane to a silver Aatrox.

It's very easy to become inflexible and stagnant, complaining about OP champions instead of trying to improve and beat them. That's how you become hardstuck.

even yasuo sees a 20% banrate in diamond+

Some... champions... are broken. It's a fact. Not something to whine about, which is what I said.

We have only 1 ban. WTF r u talking about?

Downvoting this.

Cats Are Food1 votes

Oh no, don't downvote it because your team can't spend 5 seconda discussing who to ban.

Malix Farwin1 votes

Disagree with the afk farming part. Putting pressure on the lanes is a good thing and farming when you are behind to help you get back into the game is massively better then being in teamfights but being completely useless in them because you do no damage/die easily. If you are pressuring lanes you are forcing people to come for you which a lot of times could be their stronger teammates and actually trigger a 4v4 that is more winnable then a 5v5.

More on to the point, waves are very important in this game and ive lost a lot of games because our weak members decided to team fight and die instantly instead of pressuring side lanes(literally happened my last game).

Cats Are Food1 votes

Afk farming =/= wave clearing. I said as much.
