Should pro play champions lose their identity in exchange they are playable in solo queue?

NY64··7 votes·6,408 views

Recently in patch 9.9 they reworked Tahm and Aatrox by gutting their pro play abilities in exchange their solo queue parts of their kits became far stronger. So far, both reworks seem to be a success because their win rates are finally back at a reasonable spot without them feeling overwhelming or being in a pick or ban spot.

My question is should the same kind of treatment be given to other pro play champions like Ryze, Akali, Irelia, Shen, Azir, Gnar, Kalista, and so on?

What I mean for example is: Should Azir lose his ability to Shurima Shuffle or give his minions health bars in exchange that the rest of his kit can be buffed to redistribute his power budget?

Akali's identity isn't related to being a "pro play champion", her insane skillcap is the reason she's "unviable" in soloq even tho all top 15 akali mains are challenger

It's cuz she's extremely safe and exerts tons of safe damage that most residents of top lane simply can't deal with.

She's high skill sure but she has training wheels on her training wheels.

Movement speed overload and mobility overload along with high level 1-5 sustained damage with her level 6 giving her the power to 100-0 any non-tank top in a full rotation which immobile champions can't only not run from but also can't stand and duel.

No It's because while she should be an assassin she can splitpush and pressure every lane because of her passive current damage allowing her to duel bruisers

and if she goes for conqueror there is even less chance for a bruiser to duel her or anyone dueling her

Tbh, Akali bullying top laners is nothing new. She has been doing that since release, even b4 the rework.

Depends on the champion Something like Akali can't have that thanks to her kit

both tahm and AAtrox did not lose their identity, you still can eat stuff and can revive and they both are still effective, its just its no longer the only things those champions can do

"you can still eat stuff" yeah... eating something with Tahm now is almost the same as using anivia wall when your team is trying to engage and Aatrox's revive might as well not exist anymore

What I meant for Tahm is that he lost his ally saving ability. Sure he can save them from cc, Zed ult or Fizz ult but he can’t carry them away from danger anymore. Aatrox can’t just ult to give himself a free GA anymore.

And for losing that he gained almost godlike trading power with his passive. Mind you, if you dont devour a target and just use Q on a 3 stacked target, the stacks dont fall off, so you pretty much can make people unable to play the game or run away from you.

Please don't make me lane against the frog catfish Rito, I'll be good, I promise, I won't beg for AP bruiser items or complain about CertainlyT working on a multiplayer game ever again...

###Perfectly fine to go up against afterwards though.

I think the opposite should be done, where all champions should be valid picks in pro.

But I don't trust riot to do that, so IDK where I stand really.

It’s an ideal dream but not every champ can be viable in pro play because some don’t offer good enough traits for a coordinated team while others do. For example Tryndamere doesn’t offer anything to team fights so that’s why he is always off on his own split pushing and coordinated teams can work together on how to deal with him. On the other hand someone like Ryze is amazing in pro play because his ult can send an entire team a long distance or he can use undodgeable cc just in time for a gank.

the only issue with azir is games end too fast for him to ever be a good pick

As a pre-rework Akali main, who still used her as a situational pick even after the rework, OF LAWD YES!

No. They should just leave champions the way they are so normal people can have fun with them and turn them off in pro if it's that big of an issue.

I see people saying Tahm is a success. He's still sub 50% winrate in his intended role and they also made him way less fun to play as by increasing something everyone has (damage) and gutting his unique ability. They could up Zed's Q and E damage and make his ult deal no damage, his winrate would increase because he'd be less combo reliant, but he wouldn't be a success because it wouldn't be satisfying to play him whatsoever.

Agreed. Champions shouldnt balanced around proplay to begin with All ot does is cause problems.

Yes but uh that Azir suggesting is pretty oof lol.

I think Azir is in a good spot right now (at least high elo ones are). I'd rather not see his DPS or survivability buffed in exchange so no thanks.

The rest yeah.

Not only is your idea bad but your example is straight up r%%%%%ed

Do you actually think Azir sees pro play because of Shurima SHUFFLE ROFL NO He doesn't. Azir sees pro play because some dumbfks are stupid enough to pick an UP champion in pro play but if we take a look further they pick him for his immunity to ganks as his E ll always be up.

I'm guessing you haven't played against any decent aatrox player lately?

Something weird for pro play that I'd like to see is "If this champ has been used in previous game, you can't pick/ban in it on next one". Would make best of 3/5 kinda interesting instead of those 15 champs being picked or banned.
