Riot should release the game's source code to the community

It's been almost 9 years and Riot still has not given the community the ability to create gamemodes themselves. Not only that, but they removed gamemodes and expect us to settle for TEMPORARY rotating gamemodes.

It's high time that the community be able to create their own gamemodes. If the game's source code was to be released, or a program that allows for map manipulation/creation, stat. manipulation and champion+item manipulation/creation then League would continue to be a successful game.

Currently, just having ARAM and standard 5v5 Summoner's Rift makes the game extremely one-dimensional and dull. All the fun of the game has been ripped out of it due to the overall competitiveness rising. The game needs a new fresh coat of paint in terms of fun.

If Valve wants to flex their muscles like that then so should Riot.

Do you want a flood of scripters and cheaters on a level you've never seen?

'Cause that's how you get that.

Ok? Then release a program that allows for players to change certain aspects of the game, and if leaking too much code is a concern make it extremely user friendly and not explicitly revolve around hard coding.

Furthermore there could be further measures taken to improve the anti-cheat system.

DOTA 2, Gmod and the like don't have a major issue with cheaters/scripters anymore due to Valve's cheat system being so strict and precise. Plus, Riot could release a feature similar to Overwatch from CS;GO.

It's not like Riot can't do this without taking preemptive measures against scripters/cheaters.

Plus, most of the major scripting websites have been run into the ground by Riot and their legal team. At this point scripting is hardly an issue anymore, same goes for general hacking.

I understand what you're getting at, but I'm also not a fan of only having 2 gamemodes to choose from lmao.

That's literally like trying to stop a flood the minute you open up the dam.

It's still preventable, and for the end result it's worth it.

Valve has never really had any major issues with doing this same thing lmao.

Are we just going to pretend TT doesn't exist, or...?

TT is non-existent and atrociously balanced, even moreso than classic 5v5.

While it's not open and shut case, there are many compelling arguments that large FOSS projects are more secure than proprietary ones (and OpenLeague undoubtedly would fall under that category.) For instance, no one except the devs at Riot Games knows with any degree of certainty how secure the codebase really is, and even then they might not know if the company doesn't regularly conduct security audits. To make the claim that "converting to open source would open a flood of scripts/cheats" without having reviewed the code yourself speaks to a lack of domain experience on your part. League's codebase could be a security nightmare for all we know.

The other strong argument for better FOSS security is that there are many more eyes reviewing the code, and also many more patching it, which means even the less obvious exploits can be patched much sooner, making the window of time a cheater requires to be able to develop a script of any maturity much smaller than it would be with a more limited dev team.

Here's an article that talks more about this topic for those interested:

This would be sick and I've thought the same thing. League would evolve at insane rate if it happened. You can't make posts like this on the forum though, the average IQ of the members here is around 75-85 so they can't consider things beyond emoticons and keywords like "Nerf" and "Buff." And most times they aren't able to process more than the title of a thread let alone the author's post. I'm with you though. For Riot to have the foresight to do something like this would be the stuff of legend, no joke. So it's very unlikely it will ever happen unfortunately :(

Yeah, I doubt Riot will do it because they have gigantic egos, but we can dream.
