Can we get a visual indicator for turret aggro for deaf and hard of hearing players?

Besides global ults, I have noticed another huge issue when playing without sound: it's really hard to know when a turret has targeted you.

Deaf players are already at a disadvantage (as well as people who play without sound, for whatever reason). Can we get a visual indicator when a turret targets you? (Like can the entire turret turn red, or have a very obvious icon above it?)

I just died in a game I just played because one nexus turret hit the minions, and one hit me, and I didn't notice.

EDIT: there is actually an indicator (a little red arrow appears over the turret for like a tenth of a second). It's REALLY hard to see, and doesn't even stay visible for very long. It should definitely be made bigger (possibly pulsate to draw attention to it), and persist until you lose turret aggro.

EDIT 2: The current indicator also triggers late. The "sound" plays before the turret shoots you, so you can leave turret range after hearing the sound and not take a hit. The red arrow appears when a shot has already left the turret, giving you no chance to react and quickly leave turret range. The current indicator should be changed so it happens early like the sound indicator does.

If I'm not mistaken, there is a red-line that points to you when the turret is locked on to you, which provides that knowledge. I play without sound a lot and it's what I use to know if I have the agro.

It's hard to quickly see it's pointing on you though. Especially when you're clumped into a big ball of champions/minions.

There is also a little red arrow-thingy above the tower when it targets you. It's located above the crystal where the shots originate. I have no idea how clear that indicator is if you don't have sound. I suggest looking for it in a custom game to get a better idea of how it looks and then in a normal game to test how often you notice it.

I can try and look for it. I've played like 2 or 3 games and it hasn't been obvious enough to notice yet.

K I found that little red arrow. It appears for like a fraction of a second then disappears, and it's really easy to miss unless you're staring directly at the turret for the entire fight.

Made a 2nd edit to the thread. That arrow also only appears once a shot leaves the turret. It doesn't happen early like the sound indicator does.

yeah, ive had to play on mute before and all the time I would be targeted by the turret and wouldn't realize it, thusly tanking 2 or 3 unnecessary shots

NewFoundAbility2 votes

Yeah but it's not easy to notice when you're tower diving with a team or maybe you forget that the tower is still there somehow (that has happened to my friends) and you walk through it.

It needs to be a bit bigger, then shrink or something.

Speaking of which they should have a visual indicator for when abilities that make sound hits someone in a bush. I wonder if any deaf players even know that's a thing that you can do.

I always thought they should add little damage texts when you hit something in a brush, like when you attack something outside a brush.

When I get turret aggro, my health begins to indicate that I am dying.

He's talking about being able to dive the turret, and notice before you start taking damage. It's like you didn't even read the post.

Chill bro, it a bit of sarcasm

Would also help when tower diving in team fights with lots of abilities.

Jofeyy2 votes

I would use it simply bc when i play with friends, the skype during teamfights gets so loud that you cant hear any noises from game. I've taken so much tower aggro because of this.

Whenever I get turret aggro there is a HUGE red circle around said turret, it stays yellow otherwise. Not sure how much more of a visual que you could ask for?

R11014 votes

That's only in bot and custom games because they are mostly used for learning the game.

EndlessSorcerer4 votes

Doesn't that only happen in bot games?

I might be wrong though. I've never really looked at the tower for an indicator.

Davy Crockett1 votes

It does, but there is a red target above your champ when a turret locks on to you.

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Huh. The more you know.

There's a red line and a large indicator that pops up above the turret when it's targeting you.

It's actually REALLY hard to see that "indicator" and it disappears fairly quickly (why....?)

I'm guessing it depends on what level of graphics you have on. I have mine at the highest so i can see it clearly.

Great idea. Perhaps they could also give visual indicators for those defending the turret, so that we can see when our turret goes braindead and fails to target enemy champs.

As a nearly deaf player, I need this badly.

Have died too many times to count because of this

Hmmm my game may need repairs then because the circles appear around the turrets in every game. it also seems to be randomly choosing to use the old UI for about 30% of games.

Silverclaw1 votes

Old UI is ranked only currently, afaik.

You sure it isnt bot games?

The big bright ball of lightning or pulsing laser isn't enough?

No, because you don't know what it's targeting when you're clumped into a big group of champions and minons

I thought there was one, but if you are having trouble noticing it, then Riot probably does need to make it more clear that turrets can kill.

the second edit in my OP.

There is one, its barely noticable, it disappears super quickly, and it doesn't show up soon enough for you to avoid a turret shot like the sound indicator does.

Davy Crockett1 votes

Yes please. I have moderate to profound hearing loss and use headphones but it is still very difficult for me to detect when a turret is targeting me visually. I've found that being able to play with sound provides hearing individuals with a HUGE advantage vs deaf players. I would love to see clarity and a word from Riot for people that have issues with hearing sounds in the game. It can be a very trouble some thing when you don't see or hear a major game-changing event (AKA hearing dragon scream etc). Can we have a Red's opinion on this?

ArkenStorm1 votes

yeah, make it the same in bot games, have it an option to turn on/off. wouldn't be that hard, and that would help deaf/little-to-no-sound players

Davy Crockett1 votes

Can this post get some love from RIot?
