General question: If you're looking for a +20% CDR item on Zilean, are you taking (what I currently build) or ?

I'm wondering if the heal makes much of a difference on his ult.

I don't think anyone builds Athenes on zilean

Yeah, I suppose I'm wondering why. If you go straight utility (and I don't) then that healing bonus must make your ult ridiculous.

I see this post is old, but it comes up high on CDR Zilean searches, so:

Considering that Zilean's Ult gets a bonus health restore that is equal to 200% of his AP PLUS its base restore (600/850/1100 health per ability lvl), NEVER BUILD ATHENE'S. Build more AP instead.

Keep taking Morellonomicon item 3165 because Zilean needs AP and CDR. It's hands-down the most useful 20% CDR item for Zilean. Plus you get Grievous Wounds + a big mana/health restore on kills/assists that are critical in kites, 1v2 disadvantage, teamfights, and countering ganks so you walk away with kills and troll gold instead of watching the enemy take your tower in greyscale.

And even as a utility champ, you still need to do damage- because damage is a utility. And you don't want Yasuo walking back under tower with a bomb on his head, only to have him recall safely with under 10% health because you bought a healer's item, because you forgot you were playing a champion that is playing god while manipulating the fabric of space-time ...and not a healer.

...So again, please don't build Athene's.

You can mess around and have some fun with the 10% CDR items like item 3152 item 3050 item 3001 item 3100 but they're pretty situational, and you normally won't be face to face with other AP champs past laning phase, or near the enemy for the aura. If you roam, will be useless during that time, and you may be wasting $$$ on the armor just to not have your AD teammates build any crit or all die at the same time when they get 2 c0cky because you are THE Zilean-sama.

Zilean has already foreseen his foes deaths (and they were painful!); it's up to you to bring that reality about, capiche?

if you're mid go morelo, if support athenas wouldn't be bad

Depends on if you're mid lane Zilean or support Zilean. I could conceivably see support Zilean getting Athenes, but mid Zilean has no business buying utility items.
