@Riot Scruffy Jungle Diversity and Adding Other Champions to The Jungle.

Widening the Jungle Champ Pool

When we’re digging into our results and follow ups from this year’s preseason, we were really struck by a problem in the Jungle role that we’d never been able to fix - throughout League's entire history, low Elo players have preferred the jungle position least of all 5 positions, regardless of whether jungle is strong or weak relative to the other 4 positions. We think this will take a variety of changes to fix in the long term, but we want to also do some short-term work to improve jungle appeal. In 10.4 we’re going to try adding a handful of champs that we (and you) love into the jungle pool. We’d be doing very focused changes that buff these champs' jungle clears but leave their lanes unchanged. Not all of these may ship but here is our current list:

Garen (we’re also doing some light changes to make bruiser items more viable compared to attack speed builds) Diana Zed Talon Darius

I appreciate trying to take a look at the Jungle Champion pool but i'd like to point out some things that also push newer player's away from the jungle.

TLDR: Incase you don't want to read it all the Gist of it is, instead of increasing the number of champions in general increase the number of Different Types of champions so that player's can play more choices of Classes in the jungle.

--------Champion Diversity---------

26 of the champions that are Most Played in the jungle are AD champions who prefer to build AD items, 6 of them are Assassins and 18 of them are Bruiser's, 2 are Marksmen though graves builds bruiserish.

12 of them are AP champions with 6 of them being Tanks who deal AP Damage 4 being AP Assassins 1 being a mage and 1 being a Support.

39 champions in total are listed as Jungler's by Riot Games and while the Classes that riot lists some champs under are very wrong at times Roles are pretty spot on and based on Playrate. Keep in mind i ignored the fact that Shyvanna builds AP right now because your average new player will get shyvanna's Recommended items not the AP build, the same applies to a hybrid like Jax or a unique one like Shaco who can build either.

Here's where my issue comes up, of the 5 champions you want to put into the jungle you chose 4 AD Champions, of which there are already plenty in the jungle. I won't say no to getting more champions in the jungle, of course not, what i will say no too though 80% of them being AD when 80% of the champions available in the jungle are already AD and 18 of them are Bruiser's like Darius and Garen. Diana should honestly already be counted as a jungle. Sure she's not that good at it but it's playable and fairly popular as well so it feels like a Cop Out to AP Jungler's to add diana to the list of champions that you want to be able to jungle when she already can.

Another thing that bother's me is that the top 2 AP jungler's Nidalee and Elise require 6 abilities to be relevant in the jungle Meta, doesn't that alarm anyone? Like the fact it takes your champion being extraordinarily overtuned(Ekko) or 6 abilities to be Meta in the jungle as an AP should warrant some looking at. It doesn't help that all 5 of the AP Damage dealing Jungler's require a lot of work, Nidalee and Elise are hard to play as is Evelynn and Karthus play's weird honestly.

To finish there are a large number of champions that are AP or Tanks that would work wonder's in the jungle here's a list of some of them that i personally would love to see.

---AP Assassins---

Akali - Simple, her lane phase is constantly hard to balance, she herself is difficult to balance but you can't lie she's great at Ganking and the only thing holding her back is the fact her Passive doesn't proc on Large Monster's.

Katarina - Her dagger drops don't deal enough damage to Jungle Camps which makes her clear slow, she has a problem with Health as well but other than that the only issue i see both her and Akali having is not being able to get Gunblade as easily, their ganks would still be no worse than any other assassin who just brings damage to a team though so why not look into them.

---Tanks----

Ornn - Ornn already has a pretty valid playrate in the jungle and tbh he doesn't really need a change to make him more viable, one of the Caveats to playing tank jungler's like Zac or Sej is that their clearspeed is usually slower but they'll outscale Bruiser's later(If they survive the endless invading)

---Mages---

Ahri - Her R- Spirit Rush is a powerful Ganking tool as a Midlaner and while testing it myself Ahri has a hard time due to Mana and Speed her Health already comes out pretty high. She's simply waiting for a small touch to her Q against Monster's to increase her clear speed to be on par with other AP champions in the jungle, if it were possible to reach 6 on Ahri at the same time i reach it on Evelynn i'm sure she'd be a force to be reckoned with but she would retain the same weakness to Invade's that all mage's in the jungle do.

Neeko - The recent rise in popularity for Zyra, Karthus , Brand and Syndra jungle leads me to believe that not only can Immobile Mages work in the jungle each one has it's own strengths and benefits and people do actually want to see it. As it stands Neeko can already jungle pretty well, she just get's a bit low early on and to be fair that's a valid weakness of her's but she also pays the price of Clear Speed if she tries to full clear. Good part is that Neeko's E passing through minion and making it better makes her ganks more potent than you'd think. Finally in addition, neeko's Passive is borderline useless unless you play her in the jungle, disguising yourself as an ally who just backed has gotten me WAY more kills than it should.

Honorable Mentions: Kled Fizz Poppy Gnar

Kled is already picking up some pace in the jungle, Fizz used to be able to jungle, Poppy can already as well but she lacks Clear Speed and let's be real Gnar has always looked like a Jungler but doesn't work well as one.

Neither Zyra Brand or Syndra are actually good junglers, invade = death. The AP junglers we need are AP bruisers. AKA Sylas.

Tbh I just think that Zyra should've always been a jungler. She's not safe enough or volatile enough to be a mid laner, and she's just a secondary mage when picked bot lane.

I'd be so down for Riot reworking Zyra into a jungler.

Good now lets get them to talk about widening another lanes champion pool.

I personally can easily see why jungler is least popular. It is difficult to play from a strategy and macro perspective compared to some other roles and you often take the brunt of blame from your team. It often feels thankless.

Revert the Scuttle changes to bring back more of the level 6 junglers/late game junglers/tank junglers(so you know those times when you may need a frontline.)

Scuttle crab change killed diversity in the jungle and for what? A flashy esports "mini-objective"? Waste of time.
