Change My Mind: Liandrys Is a gimmick item, and rylais beats it at most stages for cheaper

Let me start by saying dots are my favorite form of damage in game, and i love the idea of this item.

That aside, liandrys just isnt doing it. I would like to see a damage counter added to the item to see really how its doing, but for the price comparison to rylais, i just dont see any reason to truly buy it.

1% max health damage, that is instantly reduced by mr, is completely negligible.

Rylais will offer a higher average kill potential and peel potential at literally every stage of the game. And liandries will make something happen maybe 1/10 games purchased. Its just not there for me. It barely secures kills on top of even brands passive and the on hit "shred" would happen with or without liandries after 15 pokes.

My favorite item in game is pure gimmick.

I don't think OP realise that if you get BOTH Liandrys and Rylais then the power of the former is literally doubled due to the very last line of its item description.

Also, Rylais is very gold inefficient with rather unimpressive stats as well as sporting a undesired build path that involves taking 3 separate item slots. It's only good on someone who already has good base damage and/or having a blast with AoEs and they want to troll everybody with the added slow. But still, it goes very well if you ALSO build Liandrys, the 2 items pretty much go hand in hand, instead of being subjects of contrast.

I think that was the whole point. He was trying to slyly down-play Liandry's by saying Rylai's is better, which inversely can be interpreted as Liandry's is even worse than Rylai's.

Not that I agree or anything.

Niche yes. Gimmick no. As a Morde main I need to apologize that Riot forgot what my champion does and the supsequent nerfs to follow. I don't think it would have been so bad if not for some douche on YouTube making the most extreme case seem like the Norm.

Vandiril going and making a video of "OMG LIANDRIES MORDE ULT ONE SHOT 10 MILLION HP CHOGATH PLZ NERF". Video shows Morde "one shot" a ChoGath who built no resistances... like... that's going to kill anyone without resistances, even if it was a squishy ADC with only 1800 HP.

Liandry's is situationnal, it's pointless to buy it against a squishy team for instance, while it do wonders against champions who stack hp ( Sion DrMundo Maokai but unfortunately, this monstrosity is still a thing item 3194 ). Imo they should nerf , item 3151 is a really good item and synergize well with DoT champions Zyra Malzahar Heimerdinger

item 3116 on the other hand... Tbh the slow is so weak that the only champs I can see using it are to make it easier to land his combo, and Viktor (still too weak tho)

Rylaisis actually really good on Malzahar as it makes hitting you q much easier. Liandy's also gives the 10% bonus damage which is really good against squishy targets (though you could get haunting guise for that and sit on it).

Also why not get both? I always aim to get both as 2nd and 3rd items on malz, sometimes even going for them as 1st and 2nd after getting the all important lost chapter.

It extends Kat's window(s) for resets. Also the 10% increased damage is kinda nice.

agreed. I had a one for all game when my team had 5 zyras vs 5 ornns and it basically took 4-5 zyras with liandries to kill an an ornn with about 3 mr items, in around 8-10 seconds. At this point you might as well get raw damage into void staff if you really want decent results. I'd like the liandries % damage to scale against their MR instead of be negated by it

item 3151 item 3116 item 3089 item 3135 item 3003 you are now... very tanky for a mage, have tons of ap, and great magic pen, have good %hp damage

It's 2% with slows. And it burns for 3 sec - making it 6% max hp magic damage. Buy some magic pen and it won't be negligible. Also, 10% more damage in extended fights is nothing to sneeze at. It's definitely not for everyone, but for champs that want to slug it out and keep it proc'ed for an extended time, it's a great item.
