Id Rather Restart Matchmaking Than Be Re-queued With a Team That Knows My Pick Intent

Professor Ward··101 votes·2,715 views

Tired of watching bans change to my teams pick intent after someone dodges last pick. Its not proper competition, and undermines the entire purpose of pick/ban. I understand matchmaking times are important but I don't see anyone being against flagging lobbies that were just dodged out of.

You can totally do this, though. Cancel matchmaking, wait ~20s, and restart it. The option's right there.

Also decreases your chance to be autofilled as an added bonus

Longer your looking for a game the more likely it is to auto fill you.

Not true Stated very recently in "ask riot" that dodges and requeues no longer reset autofill chance.

This.

Ive been doing this since Season 2. If Picks/Bans goes to nearly the end before someone dodges, I will always leave queue for 30 seconds or so, so I dont get paired with the same people.

I already am doing this, and shouldn't have to. The coding is obviously plausible, just seems queue timers are whats getting priority here and riot isn't known for that, theyre known for putting competition first.

Except... you're the one who wants to do this. Many people would rather not restart matchmaking, especially at higher elo. It doesn't make sense to force everyone to restart just because you want to restart. Some do want to, some don't.

As far as I can tell, you want to restart matchmaking, and so you're restarting matchmaking, and so you're complaining that you shouldn't have to restart matchmaking? I don't understand what the problem is. What am I missing?

I shouldnt have to restart ANYTHING due to bad matchmaking design. All I'm asking for is to be flagged from facing the same players after being in a lobby with them previously, not that hard, and apparently I'm not the only one seeing as this is one of the hottest topics on the boards. And to answer your question, youre missing reading comprehension skills.

Insulting me is not constructive.

I don't understand how it's bad matchmaking design. Again, not everyone agrees with you! I, for one, don't always mind it. Sometimes I like the team I was with. I don't want to lose a good team and potentially get matched with a bunch of tilty butts because one person on the other side dodged. And if I don't want to get matched with the same team, I have the option not to be. I'd much rather have the choice than be forced to do it your way just because you don't want to press X, wait a few seconds, then press "start queue" again.

ok we will slow down here, and less text so both of us can better communicate.

Explain to me how knowing my enemies pick intent is good matchmaking? And Explain to me why this post has so many upvotes?

Okay! I'm not great at being concise, but I will try.

Explain to me how knowing my enemies pick intent is good matchmaking?

By itself, it isn't. However, it's not that simple. There are other factors.

And Explain to me why this post has so many upvotes?

It's only 90. While that's a large flat number, it's a very small percentage of the player population. There are many reasons and caveats for this that I can't simplify to a few words without destroying their meaning and losing critical subtleties.

Turning it around, why does my initial response have so many upvotes?

I agree wholeheartedly with the first three comments. As for your initial response, read your final comment. :D

And honestly your original post was literally a** re-type of the first four words in my title**. (Hence me being so crybaby about it)

Kinda blew my mind so many people came in here offering a solution I already offered in the first thing they read. Nahmsayin?

Then you answered your question in your own title. Why's there an issue?

Ya not to mention the longer you're in queue the higher the chance you'll get autofilled. Probably just better off canceling the queue and waiting 30 seconds and queueing up again. That's what I usually do.

Still keep same exact chance of autofill as stated in "ask riot" a few weeks ago.

If you feel like this happens too often, then I recommend waiting a bit before entering another match, to the point of declining if you're matched up near instantly again.

Actually, are enemy summoner names shown? I actually can't recall... They should just hide that until the game starts. Hell, why not Allied as well? And just assign names like summoner 1,2,3 etc. Or, alpha, Bravo.

SpecterVonBaren4 votes

They don't show enemy summoner names in champ select specifically to prevent this.

Soen4 votes

I see, thank you for the reminder.

But it seems like the problem still occurs, in accordance to what op has said. I wonder if changing allied names to a codename while selecting a champ would be too troublesome.

Itsbeghdev3 votes

It'd not matter because you can still just assume that someone from last game, whoever they were, might be on the enemy team and ban whoever they preffed

Soen2 votes

Right, but at least in that case, it's more of a gamble. I guess the best solution for now is to just wait before your next queue.

It's kind of obviousbif you insta que after someone dodges.

TheMoralSupport1 votes

Did someone say alpha Draven

ADC5LUT2 votes

I do that anyway 1 because I don't want them to ban my teams picks and 2 because every dodge increases your chance of getting secondary role/auto filled. :)

Reminds me of call of duty where you join a game in progress getting spawn killed by tons of kill streaks, so you leave the game but keep getting put back in the same one

Or in Overwatch, getting placed on to the losing side that gets defeated like 1 minute later.

If I get backfilled into a 90% lost game, fuck everyone I'm playing Hanzo, as payment for dealing with that crap. (I'm normally a support/tank player)

Morgan le Fey1 votes

Personally, if it's really bad, I just play Mei. :P

That said, I've pulled off some crazy backfill saves + turnarounds. Usually it's on my D.Va, but Ana, Mercy, Lucio, Tracer, Pharah, Zarya, and most hilariously enough Zenyatta (who I think I have less than an hour on total) have all managed to get their moments at one time or another over the last year.

Oblivious Denial1 votes

I can see that, esp for a Zenyatta. One well placed ult from him can win a skirmish which could win that match for you.

And I'd rather not get spammed with friend requests, but Riot's not fixing that in another few years either.
