Rito Nerfed people who made an effort to help control vision

Valhalla Rising··119 votes·4,942 views

And buffed the lazy jerks who floated on the contributions of others.

Stealth wards removed, Greater stealth totems removed(wiki what they used to do and compare it to what it is now and you will agree), regular totems take forever to recharge and only last 1-2 minutes level depending, Even sight stone wards only last 2.5 min now.

To someone who never bothered to invest in vision, this makes no difference, but to those who did care... Thanks Rito...

to be honest, the vision dissapearing is as valuable as seeing them on the vision. because the wards have infinite duration if you see the vision dissapear you know exactly where someone is right then.

yep, skarner spires, kalista's sentinels, rek sai's tunnels, mushrooms

when things disappear and its close to team mates i always ping.... but team normally doesnt understand so i have to type

one problem, Allies cannot target them with things like teleport, lee sin safeguard, jax q, kat e, the list goes on.

that's in addition to their obvious weakness which is they are visible and 1 hit killable.

no warding enemy base with these.

HeadHonchkrow10 votes

Ward hopping needed to go anyway.

maikokk2 votes

note that he said "your jungle"

its obviously risky to place them where they are easily spotable, but since they are on such a short CD they can be used to inch your way in offensively with a sightstone too

kaltenashes2 votes

thats the trade, you get a spammable ward but its weak and you cannot target it

i always buy this trinkets, unless i'm playing kat, jax, lee, at lvl 9 i can cover my team's jungle and it helps avoiding ganks and i can keep track of enemies fairly easier without getting myself in a risky situation

Yep. You can have as much vision as you want as long as you guard it. Vision is a much more active and strategic game now, and you can even bait people to stay in a bush slightly longer by warding it. They turn to attack it once which is JUST enough time for that Super Mega Death Rocket! to fly in from downtown.

On the PBE: Farsight Alteration

  • Cooldown is now 76-60 (at level 9-18) from 61-48 (at level 9-18)
  • Vision Radius of ward decreased to 500 from 900

I don't think it was Riot's intention to punish people who do invest in vision and reward people who play selfishly. After all, Vision Wards are now cheaper, so it makes a lot of sense for everyone to buy one and put it in a safe spot. I think Riot is trying to find a level of vision where the support cannot be responsible for warding what needs to be warded, so everyone else has to ward some.

Yep, it would be nice to have green wards back. If Rito wanted more fights, they should allow us to have MORE vision, not less, as smart players usually don't make plays without vision.

Yea they said that it would create more fights in one of the patch rundowns but like you said most players are not likely to facecheck bushes and will probably stick to lane more often.

I can already tell youre a minority, or the low elo has been improving that much?

Prozzak4 votes

Riot clearly wants more action in the early portion of the game and removing wards does just that. The game is no longer (as much) about 5v5 fights rather it has shifted to 1v1 catch plays that escalate into full on teamfights depending on how quick members of both teams rotate.

This season is going to rely much more on player ability to rotate than it has in the past.

To be fair, people who invested in vision needed nerfs. I've won far too many games simply be abusing the overpowered green ward last season.

Hmm, that is a good argument

I have to totally disagree because everyone had the choice to invest in vision or not.

Anyone who did not was basically throwing their games. Wards have been a staple in the game for a long time, there was no abuse, just people who made the right choice.

Abuse is picking a champion that has broken kit/winrates upon release, or more recently buying a stat stick like Rageblade on a hybrid like Jax or Essence Reaver on Lucian.

Wards were for everyone, the choice was theirs, and now the choice is gone.

Confron7a7ion76 votes

You can't abuse something if everyone has the same tools available to them. At no point in any game was upgrading trinket a bad idea for any player. The players that you won against where hurt by the fact that they did not use the same tools that you used. All they had to do was spend 250 gold.

not every champ can effectlvely buy a rageblade. Non autoattackers and champs with no AP scaling cannot effectively buy it. There is no champ in the game that can't effectively buy green wards.

OP means that it is overpowered relative to something else. If everyone can utilize it effectively then there's no such thing as OP just like Flash is not considered OP despite being the best summoner in the game.

Except unlike Rageblade the old warding totem was equally as useful to every single player no matter what champion you happened to be playing.

And People could just as easily invest too deny you that vision.

Yep.

The removal of upgraded yellow trinket was a massive nerf to my play style with zero way to make-up for it (No green wards anymore). Thanks Riot, sigh.

My only issue is the recharge rate is really long.

Otherwise Vision this season is fine.

Its true that vision wins games. Dont know how many times I said it in matches last season, but its more than I have fingers and toes, and less than I have hair on my head.

So what they did.... was since vision was so hard for the average player to wrap their tiny tiny mind around, they lessened vision all around.... sorta.

For those who try to use vision to its fullest, theyre still rewarded with all the benefits it brings. Since there is less vision, what vision you do have is more powerful.

I just want to point this out. Pinks item 2043 were reduced to the cost of stealths from last season.... but you still dont see people buying them other than support mostly....

Anyway... vision up time is lower, but more available, so if you want to invest in it you will have to put in more effort, but you reap potentially greater rewards since your opponent my not invest in it, and could lose objectives, lanes, lives, matches to the failure to invest.

Vision is powerful, they lessened vision overall, but made what you get more precious, therefor creating some balance on it.

Think of all the "MY CHAMP HAS COUNTERS AND ISNT OP, WHY 4 U NERF MY CHAMP" threads, and compare them to the crying over vision reduction. People who were having success with vision wanted to keep it.

Vision was freelo, they nerfed it. Not because it by itself was OP, but in part because of how hard it was to come back when you cant go anywhere without the enemy seeing it, and cant even safely ward to see the enemy....

Then they invented this thingitem 3363 to help people get out of their base and chase the deep warding supports/junglers out of the bushes.

Bottom line is, WARDING ISNT JUST THE SUPPORTS JOB! If everyone learned to ward diligently, and well, then fewer games would be lost because of people who cant ward.

Pierce The Veal3 votes

They've been doing that since they introduced trinkets. Where have you been?

elon wątroba3 votes

The sole reason of nerfing vision is, that was promoting passive gameplay in lcs. So there could be less #lcsbigplayzzzzzzzzz

RasCaelestis1 votes

I know this argument has been made before, but I'll say it anyway...

Less vision makes higher-skilled people play more defensively. They don't want to engage on something if they can't see what else they'll be up against, so they stay safe near their tower.

MrWasjig3 votes

As a Support main these changes just felt a huge middle finger than for no better reason than: "Preseason hur dur!"

He4rtkiller2 votes

Imo it's better this way because it creates more chaotic environment where anything can happen and it's more fun that way then to know that you are 100% safe with your vision everywhere.

i just want 180 sec wards and this item 3361 one back (180 sec ward, 2 stacks, 60sec cd per recharge) it was amazing like always 2/3 wards and sometimes 3/3 wards at the same time just for 250g!!! 250 only 250!!

Nice circlejerk thread. upvotes? CHECK circlejerk? CHECK a headline which is a clickbait while saying something that isn't true? CHECK

Look. The reason they removed the green wards is because nobody bought them. It is simple as that. Even in the LCS they were rarely bought. Jungler and Support had a Sightstone and laners bought some pinks and a FEW green wards. Mostly the laners bought PINKS.

Now we don't have less vision. The opposite is the case if now anybody places those pinks while support and jungler place even more wards.

Choaru2 votes

Guessing that I'm that nobody :^) I use to buy like 2-3 green wards about ever other back :'D

RasCaelestis1 votes

Same here. As mid, I'd also start with the warding trinket, then switch it out for the sweeper on my first back. I'd also get at least two green wards every back, and a pink ward every time the previous pink was destroyed.

Avios11 votes

Actually, they bought this item... Way more efficient and cost-effective. This is what we are complaining about.item 3340

Greater vision totem was the little ward that could. It pumped out charges so that you always had a ward ready once you hit level nine, which meant that you, as mid laner, could ward both river brushes, pink the Bush on the other side of blue buff for extra gank warning, and still put a fully functional ward down in the enemy's Bush. Later on you could ward baron, Dragon, blue, red, your jungle or their jungle depending on what was needed. Some people wanted sight stone to be more like the greater stealth totem so that they could keep wards up and participate in the game without needed to go back to base because they're out of wards.

And I don't see what you're talking about with supports and junglers putting down more wards since they lowered the ward charges on sight stone which means that you have to go back if your shorter lived wards die and you want to replace them.

Reaper Soraka1 votes

With the lack of vision in the game right now, I don't think it's wise to pick any squishy champion anywhere.

I'm no challenger leaguer, but I wouldn't recommend taking Annie mid over say Gragas-- even Nunu Q can hit very hard, and very often. The map just doesn't feel safe for low HP champions anymore.

Restless Slumber2 votes

Nunu Q can't hit champions... Do you mean his E?

Right, the giant snowball.
