Ancient coin is really frekin op

You know something is wrong when supports like Morgana and Sona choose item 3301 over item 3303, like jesus, there are two poke supports that are building ancient coin because it is just so OP.

Let's go over the differences:

  • Coin gives you gold in the form of "coins" that are super easy to collect

  • Coin also gives you a bunch of mana coins that give so much mana, you will almost never be out of it in laning

  • Spelltheif's edge gives you 5 AP (barely any at all)

  • +25% mana regen which isn't that much

  • Gives you 8 gold upon poking an enemy champion (which is risky to do in lane)

If you think about it, each wave, about 1 or 2 gold coins so let's say 1.5 coins; each coin is 25 gold times 1.5 is 38 gold you are getting per wave.

When you take spelltheif's edge, if you proc all 3 stacks of your passive, you get 24 gold and it takes a while for it to recharge. By the time all 3 stacks are recharged, another wave of minions pass by.

Think about it, with coin, you get much more gold per wave; not to mention, it's super easy and safe to get. All you have to do is stand near the coin and they will come to you! Not much risk involved...

When you take spelltheif's edge, you are making much less gold; not to mention, attempting to poke down your enemy for gold is dangerous in lane and can be easily punished.

----------conclusion Basically, ancient coin is OP and it really shows...

It's really fun consistently getting less gold than a support that does nothing in lane.

I mean, the Frost queen's line is always on the edge of potential abuse for midlaners, and now relic shield is being picked up by ADC's. So it seems like Coin is the only gold item that can actually have decent gold gen.

But looking at the actually support environment. Not all supports are nearly as item reliant. So to that end, it's probably okay to have one such item with better gold gen. The other items just need to have comparable strengths, expressed in a different way. (Poke damage from spellthiefs, HP Sustain from relic)
