Real talk: Is ANYONE happy with how supports work?

Ahristocats··6 votes·964 views

Obviously non-support players are disgusted by the big amount of shields/heal due to redemption+locket+ increased with other shielding/healing items like mikael

but support players, are you happy that what your character does is always shielding/healing?

Because i don't, i want to be usefull with Sona by doing something else than heals and shields, the character was supposed to be fun to play by using power chord that allowed a huge amount of versatility and decisions, but it just doesn't fcking matter when the passive is weak without AP, and when support items AND KEYSTONE are just here to increase healing/shielding power

So? i'm waiting answers

needs more proactivity for sure.

My job as support is to assist my team on things like vision, catching people, peeling carry's, and generally just keeping my team alive.

There are a wide variety of champions that hit certain strengths in those roles and some more heavily than others...

You don't see Zyra or Brand building Redemption and taking Windspeaker...

To say the only viable build for a support is heals and shields is ridiculous.

I'm perfectly happy with how supports functions right now.

yeah but you also don't get items that actually support that type of play style from supports outside of actual mage items and the item 3303 line of items... hell tanky supports really don't have much going for them either in terms of actual support items and not "tank items that are cheap enough for them to build".

Yes there is a wide variety of champions with their own unique strength but when the items don't actually do anything for them and just pushes everyone into the same playstyle then it just gets boring and repetitive specially when it seems like instead of the items complementing on the play style of whatever support you are using it's more of the support you are using is complementing the item you just have to buy.

no, not at all

I would rather see supports that have heavy debuffs for a change, or that prop themselves up around their ability to defend or destroy turrets

^I would like this as well

The problem with your (original post) mentality is that in order for sona to be impactful in other ways you would have to nerf something to compensate because if supports get damage and massive amounts of utility then it becomes cancer. Remember Soraka mid/top before q was changed? Lulu mid/top?

Ahristocats1 votes

i'm not really getting it if you're talking to me or not, but the way you make Sona impactful without an overbearing healing/shielding is that you increase her BASE kit, not scaling because supports can't buy AP right now

nerf the heal/shield (or remove all those %bonus heal and shield from support items) while do something like: -diminuendo % damage reduction increased from 25% to 25/35/45% damage reduction------>AP scaling removed from diminuendo -extend this logic to all her kit and here you go

idk if you want to have an open discussion about Sona specifically but I always thought she should be very consistent and dynamic, like she's actually playing a tune

like, having the auras and stuff be consistent buffs, change how she attacks and maybe actual combos between switching her stances

i do agree that AP scaling utility sucks though, they should go back and revert those changes for Nami and Lulu as well

idk if you want to have an open discussion about Sona specifically but I always thought she should be very consistent and dynamic, like she's actually playing a tune

she SHOULD be dynamic i love her whole kit but i hate how right now she works

her kit is supposed to be like this: play music to enchent your allies and then use your power chord(passive) to be versatile and help your allies depending on the situation.

how she ACTUALLY works: power chord has no function, literally no function at all what it does: -a lot of damage if you have a lot of ap -damage reduction lasts 2 seconds and sucks without ap -slow is nice if you chase someone and that's it

hymn of valor bonus damage on allies sucks without a lot of ap and is the most INVISIBLE power i ever saw song of celerety sucks without a lot of ap

Sona is a heal/shield bot that spams W every 3 seconds at lvl 16 (if she gets it lmfao), use redemption and locket overwhelming enemies with heals and shields, and press R one time a while

i'm so disappointed because riot won't work on her

D357R0Y3R4 votes

it doesn't matter what support players want

Riot made it clear that they are made to only heal and shield people hence windspeaker increases heals and shields, and why every support items either heal, shield, or increase their power

if you want it to change you need to rework the entire support itemization, and change windspeaker

and you also want to do something about ap, because supports like Sona need a lot of it to make her kit working like her passive or her bonus movement speed that is irrelevant without ap

Well, to speak strictly of Support champions (so no Lux or any mid lane made support), I mean for the most part I'm content. A lot of picks are really binary in their playstyle or require a degree in Engineering to pull off some saves (ie, Janna 'nado into a flash ult).

I think out of all the support champions, the two I'm really happy about are Nami and Bard because they offer a nice mix of skill to ease-of-use, provide a lot for the team, and can turn a fight on its head when played correctly.

Only other two I can think of that are as fun are Taric and Leona , however they require team follow up which doesn't happen a lot in lower elos/not in VC with the team or carry. As well as that, Taric is still a somewhat situational pick into AD heavy comps. This is not bad, but at the same time you don't see him much since Assassins are never seen and the Meta is currently favoring burst/hypercarries ADCs and mages.

yes i'm happy how janna is becoming a priority ban because she has 0 fkn interaction and she makes everyone melee useless .

I'm fine with where supports are at with the obvious tweaking here and there.

As for Sona, i've always ran her AP thunderlords. Just my playstyle and emotionally and mentally satisfying for me. I have other champions i'll build utility on. AP Sona always has and still does pack a punch as much as other AP supports. It just depends on player skill and having a team work around her. Plus having the balls to be a glass cannon which is not easy to pull off.

Honestly, after four years of it something's been feeling a little bit off about support recently. I'm feeling a lot more reactive than proactive in what I do these days (Tank support main), but I can't quite put my finger on the root of the issue. ... Definitely not a fan of mid laners getting dragged into the support role though, never liked that :O

DarkRitual1 votes

Support meta has just changed again, to where there's heals/shields and damage supports. Tank supports just can't tank damage well enough right now in any sort of extended fight, so they need to just pile CC on people to be useful.

Korweeabooo1 votes

Sona is the fastest assassin on league and people only build her support if they have no mechanics

she is much stronger adc/mid

Ahristocats1 votes

yeah i already got it that you like to play Sona mid or adc, but thing is she was designed to do something else

SwordOfWar1 votes

People hate support so much that they started doing things like flat out refusing to support. Eg counter jungling smite support Singed.

Janna is not a typical support, she really shouldn't be it's posterchild. She's basically like having item 3009item 3401item 2140item 3107item 2049 and she paid for it with weak enemy interactions.

I hate using her. I like to play aggressive.

Leona is my spirit animal. I'm that Leona that flash-zenith blades you and tilts you from here to Sunday. SonaSoraka I play just like Leona. Expect ganks, expect blood. ThreshBlitzcrankLeonaNautilus When you play these guys, the enemy lane is scared of you BardTahmKench These troll-kings are fun as sin, especially if you're voicechatting with your victims- I mean team. You can be so creative with them! <3

I don't do a single off-meta thing with any of them, I just, when I can (most of the time) play aggressive. And I get to focus on the enemy the entire time- instead of CSing. My idea of the support role just is (1) prepare safe places to kill the enemy, (2) prepare the enemy for death. Supports are really strong early on, and ones with initiates make picks/ teamfights fun!
