Legitimate Question about Nocturne's Success in Plat+

http://champion.gg/champion/Nocturne I've always liked nocturne, though ive always felt clunky building him. Either i have too much dmg and i get blown up, or im too tanky and i cant kill my target. Now Devourer changes this... well when sated. And if this is a snowball meta where games are decided in the first 10 mins, then how does Nocturne keep a 50%+ winrate consistantly? Looking at this winrate over the length of the game, one could say he starts to fall off after 35 minutes, but isnt that also when sated junglers are suppose to shine? Again, i know hes still holding a 51% winrate at 35+ but then why would he have a higher winrate 0-25? Is this him getting sated by 18 mins and then taking advantage of that power spike and just shoving it in their face? Or is nocturnes kit just highly underrated?

His base damages are better early. Late-game he's also much more likely to die during a dive.

Devourer Nocturne scales better and actually lets him duel things, since it procs his passive faster and scales off of his [Q] AD amp. More often than not his burst doesn't win the fight.

He has decent ganks, why go Sated?

He scales pretty well with attack speed. But yeah, that seems to be the Item of choice plat + im asking similar questions myself as you can see.

I often see games that finish around the 20th minute mark. There is usually no time for Sated. Noc is kind of bad - everyone has some sort of dash to escape from his ultimate. Maybe he is good vs MF... Also he is kind of Aatrox - feels too squishy to teamfight. Still he is great in 1v1 with his fear.

It would appear that way, which is why im asking the questions i did.. -_-

Noc's kit & stickyness are highly underrated. Squishyness depends on how you play/build him. As full on melee carry/assassin he's squishy of course, but he feels durable enough how I usually build him. Just remember Nocturne is not a tank, don't play him like one.

Because he gas good damage early, scales well with attack speed and on-hits. I've gotten rageblade a few times, though, I'm still experimenting with different builds this season. Going sated over warrior makes you better lategame, and not much worse early. Nocturne will usually max Q first which gives 15-55AD, which works well with attack speed. Nice ganks means you can get extra stacks from kills/assists. His clear is fast enough that you can both gank and clear. His w also makes him great for solo'ing dragon and duelling the enemies' jungler. R means you have good countergank potential too (ult to lane when farming for a doublekill).

warrior is also viable of course, but you'll be weaker late. My personal preference goes to lategame champions/teams so sated is the logical choice for me. I know others prefer warrior for similar reasons, as well as the cdr.

Nocturne has the advantage of having multiple builds available, from A/S bruiser, to assassin/splitpuser to metagolem.

nocturne is freelo post six but falls off when people start getting stuff to remove his fear/get more cdr for more peel / more lifesteal to not insta die

Makes sense.. Whats your take on devourer nocturne? Does it just keep him relevant a bit longer? Why do you think he does so well early game even with a regular devourer? (or rather, keep his team in the game until hes sated) Being a Rengar main, what discourages you from playing nocturne? Do they not have similar play styles? Farm, rush 6, gank with ult, farm .. dive back line carries. etc.. I main rengar as well, though i didnt get to diamond like yourself, i was considering Nocturne in the event Rengar is banned.

tbh neither have to wait till 6 to gank. Both can pull off pretty strong ganks at level two and typically blow a flash ( i legit pray for red side every game and do gromp w.o smiting and invade every single champ). I also usually go warrior instead of devourer though, because I think Noc really appreciates the raw damage it can bring early.

And I really just play rengar because i like his personality. i like hunting enemies rather than spooking them

Yeah i didnt mean "incapable"of ganking pre 6. But yeah I know wucha mean. Thanks for the insight. :)

It's just his ult is so damn good for ganking

If you make good use of that you can snowball your entire team.

But if games last over 9000 minutes that gold lead won't do anything

I would argue sated is what is keeping his winrate above 50% when games last longer then 30 mins

Nocturne has very high earlygame damage. People regularly underestimate his kit. The reason he has a high winrate earlier on is probably because he can snowball really hard, even without finishing sated. A nocturne with a lead will 1v1 any jungler making him a decent counterjungler. I'll revisit this thread with more info when I get home.

If he wants to, he can pretty much guarantee that 1 enemy lane never gets to play the game. And at that level, that's very often enough to win. They have a GP top or something? Tower dive that bitch every time your ult is up. His early clears are also pretty healthy giving him pretty solid early pressure and his early damage is actually surprisingly high, easily enough to play with the big boys like Lee Sin, Xin Zhao, Rek'sai, etc.

Sated and bork is all you need then you can go tanky and still do crazy amount of damage. His like jax tbh, and his ult is so good 2 catch people and then push objectives. his not a bad pick at all unless enemmy has tanky people
