"ask riot" responce.. the REAL reason why yasuo is banned

Ask Riot: Yasuo Gets Banned - Nexus - League of Legends

A decent indicator of this is his presence in pro play:

2016: 19 picks, 1 ban (Nidalee for reference was 404 picks and 930 bans) 2017: 1 pick, 1 ban

*While these numbers certainly aren’t conclusive, nor necessarily indicative of a problem, it’s an interesting note that in the most competitive environment Yasuo actually struggles to find his place on the Rift.

and here in lies the problem riot...

NORMAL PLAYERS ARE NOT PROS.

I LOVE watching LCS yes, but honestly i don't CARE how THEIR balance is... I CARE about about the balance of the game I play...

yasuo was not banned in LCS because lcs is the ONLY place were he ISN'T an issue.

you gave the example of how nidalee was nearly permabanned in LCS

well guess what... I'm a freaking nidalee main... you want to know how many times I personally saw her banned in my elo... ALMOST NEVER!!!

pro play does NOT represent the "state of the game"

casual play and pro play are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT

one of the BIGGEST factors (even MORE than SKILL in my opinion) is having co-ordinated voice chat and team you work with all the time

Nidalee is good and will ALWAYS be good in pro play if she is REMOTELY viable in normal play because she is BALANCED around landing a VERY hard to hit skill short while she herself has no form of cc

now doing that becomes INSANELY easier if you have real time voice chat and can talk to the person you about to gank to guarantee a CC for the spear to land.

the same thing happens in reverse with Yasuo because WITHOUT voice chat and team co-ordination ... he can be INSANELY hard to bring down.

THAT IS THE ISSUE.

if you decide to balance around "pro play" your are balancing based on something that will NEVER happen in lower elo... which is good real-time team co-ordination.

if you balanced the game based on the lower end of the game you over nerf champions like master yi who are actual balanced but pub stomp people who don't know what they are doing.

on the other end if you balence for pro play you keep in the what is to be concidered the absolute epitome of gameplay that was azir/ryze cases dont appear.

Low elo pub stompers always have abused discordination Yasuo s just the target of discrimination because of his popularity. Teemo MasterYi Katarina Tryndamere Akali XinZhao

all low elo stompers because no one ever truely attempt to shut them down or use their counter play against them. so tell me how you justify a nerf for a champion with balanced ( even considered sub par ) statistics but a high ban rate the lower in elo you go and a weaker win rate the higher you go.

You don't just nerf them, you shift their power around and rework their abilities as needed so that they can still express skill at high level but aren't as frustrating at low levels. If you just nerf them then no one is happy.

Surprise surprise, that's what Riot intends to do with Yasuo.

There are ways they can change his abilities so that they aren't as frustrating to play against while still allowing Yasuo players to showcase their skills and do well. The goal isn't to make Yasuo weaker, just less frustrating.

you are talking about game balance, which is a whole other topic. i argued balencing around pro play and you've offered nothing as a counter arguement there.

as for yasuo getting updated. he is getting special treatment due to his popularity. this is the first time Riot has ever considered updating a champion simply because the player base was vocal about not liking them when everything else ( high elo, statistics, other factors ) point to him being a balanced champion.

Riot hasn't had to do this before because other Champions in this situation could be fixed purely with number changes. For example, if Morgana is too frustrating (to the point where she's getting banned all the time) you could nerf her Q by slowing it down, shrinking the hit box, or reducing the duration. If Lulu were getting banned all the time you could decrease the duration of Polymorph, reduce her shield, decrease Pix damage, etc.

Riot has been trying number changes on Yasuo pretty much since he released, but all that has done is make him weaker, not less frustrating to deal with. That's why nerf after nerf he has remained a steady ban.

Personally, I feel like his frustration factor is about right when I'm playing Xerath (aka: pretty much every ranked game). Considering that Xerath's kit basically ignores Yasuo's Wind Wall all together, that's not a good sign. I suspect Riot will try to target that level of frustration, but without removing any of his iconic abilities.

This^^

Riot basically stated that Yasuo needs two things: Agency and Buffs.

His success rate increase with mastery of the champion is incredibly low compared to other champions with as many games on them. No consideration in LCS. Most or 2nd most deaths per game in ALL Elo's. These are all indicative of a weak champion.

He barely holds a 50% win rate in top lane. Less than that in mid lane, the roll where he is supposedly most annoying because "immobile mage skill shots cant hit OMG windwall!!"

Now, as RIOT stated, all this does not mean that Yasuo is not a frustrating opponent in more ways than he should be. Every champion has annoying aspects to their kit. Mobility is one for several champions. RIOT, I believe, thinks that Yasuo's mobility would be less irritating if opponents felt like there were more reasonable windows to do things against him (also, because he is so popular you tend to see it a lot. Things that are a little frustrating that get seen more often feel worse). As it its, players feel like Yasuo is always ready to do what he wants to do: Zone with potential ranged harass, Harass from range, free dash/knock-up dash away trades.

These things can be dealt with (most deaths remember?) but it doesn't mean it is fun to play against or make players (especially at lower elo) feel like they can't do anything. This is a fair complaint, but to say things like he is OP is just frustrated exaggeration.

Well voice communication is supposed to help alleviate that issue of real-time coordination.Hence we need it as soon as possible.

hell no

i don't want some 13 year old squealing high pitch curses into my ear

fuck no

What if you could mute it just like chat or pings?

Having played with voice chat before, people get out of the habit of pinging when they have it on (particularly if they started playing with voice chat). Muting voice chat will basically be cutting yourself off from all communication, which makes it worse than our current communication.
