Can we have a "Fill EXCEPT" feature

SwiftKitten88··144 votes·5,078 views

i can play EVERY role, except ADC. i have tried ADC for 3 years.. i still cant do it.

and while i would LOVE to pick "fill" i don't because i cant ADC to save my life

and I'm sure many people would like to pick "fill" excluding "support"

Edit: 1 adding great idea from a post lower down the thread to the OP

{quoted}

This is actually a really smart idea. Because it wouldn't require much in the way of reconfiguring the system.

Instead of eliminating the second slot when the first is fill, the second slot can either be:

  1. Fill - meaning any role is acceptable.
  2. Role - meaning Fill exception this.

I highly encourage this option.

EDIT: 2 ... to all your people saying this will increase que times... here is another post i wrote..

{quoted}

first off.. people who DON'T want support, DONT pick fill.

so adding an option to remove any role from the fill (in your case support) will make ZERO DIFFERENCE to support. and it will mean other players who WANT a particular role are more likely to get it because instead of nearly EVERYONE picking two roles, a LOT more people will pick FOUR roles. making que times MUCH faster

second people like me who are WILLING to play support and cant play another role (like adc) can now PICK fill. instead of maybe choosing two roles without support being one of them.. and therefore INCREASING the amount of supports it can choose from.

your idea that this will make ques "longer" is based on the assumption that people currently picking "fill" are the people getting support every game. which is flat out false.. people DON'T pick fill if they don't want support, and people DON'T pick fill even if they are WILLING to support if it might give them a role they REALLY don't want (such as ADC).

so no matter what. you are getting more support players, and you are getting more people with "4" roles options instead of two.

there is ZERO POSSIBILITY if this increasing que times. in fact it should DRASTICALLY lower them.

Here is an idea.

A checklist! Every role you want to queue for you can check it and you will be queued for that role, and you have to at least check two roles

I think this is a great idea. What if the queue was arranged in a checklist like the image you just shared, but with numbers of priority instead of checks.

For example, if I'm a top main, I would check top first, in which a "1" would appear, and then check my preferred roles following top likewise (Mid: "2", etc.)

This would be the best of both worlds, through allowing you to fill more roles, while still giving priority to the one role you are craving.

Azeranth1 votes

Well, no, cause you could still SOMETIMES get you role you can't do

RiverWind04073 votes

A problem could be that you are a mid main and only know a few top laners but are forced to play top(ppl could have strong preference). Of course, I don't really care because I main support, lol.

What people ACTUALY want is "Random."

Most people are avoiding support. This makes que times longer cause you cant start a match till someone hits support as primary, secondary, or fill.

But a "Random" button would que you up and silently select a role allowing you to play a variety of things.

As it is now the "Fill" button just means we have a second great big support button for role selection.

As a "fill" unranked main (in normals) my queue times hover around 5 seconds. Last month I even got Mid one game.

Before you praise me for filling - i "support" with Zyra Karma Sona ... OP and annoying stuff, who can carry, because i do not trust unranked ADC players

No, because queue times would be even longer because of people doing that exact thing and picking support as what they don't want to do and that would also mean you aren't exactly "filling" either

Couldn't drive Q times too much. Otherwise the Auto fill feature gets turned on.

But it will affect everyone, not just the people picking fill. So ultimately, it would still be problematic.

I'm having trouble figuring out why you think it would be problematic.

how would it make que times longer? everyone who DOESN'T pick fill right now has to choose between 2 roles. VERY few people pick fill. if even only a FEW more people pick "fill" now it would still greatly decrease the que times because now the game is now willing to give them 4 roles instead of 2.

Zane Zephyr3 votes

Because you see how long queue times are because people generally avoid support

It would become more problematic because more people would be doing the same exact thing and picking every role but support, which means it would still have to search longer for people that would play support

RookPusher10 votes

If anything it would decrease queue times.

Currently, I either pick two non-support roles, or I pick fill. I'm eliminating options with one role having support because it means you're getting support - just as fill does 90% of the time.

However, if I take top and jungle, but mid or ADC opens, then I don't get a slot. Under a all but X option, any of the 4 roles that becomes available is a slot for me. Which can only reduce queue times.

typically i will select the main role i want to play which is usually top or adc and ill choose fill and secondary because i am a support main. everytime i have done this its more likely then not to get support over the main role i chose or the other two roles i didnt want. but that problem wouldnt stop if you had fill but __ role. because people would gladly choose fill and choose not to fill as support. so you still have a lack of people choosing support. the reason why queue times take longer then they use to is when you have 5 roles to chose all the roles are chosen evenly.

for some stupid math lets say a 100 people clicks on play game they choose the roles they want out of that 100 23 choose top 17 choose jungle 27 choose mid 18 choose adc and the other 15 choose support. as you can see 23 17 27 18 15 isnt evenly distributed into the queue so if in order for the game to fill a team it has to have a player for each role. you are gonna wait longer as a top or mid player for a game compared to adc/jungle or support.

so after 15 games are made there are no more supports in queue so now we are stuck with 8 tops 2 junglers 12 mids 3 adcs so to make the 16th game who every chose fill would automatically get support. lets say it pulls from mid because it has the most in queue. now we are left with 7 tops 1 jungler 10 mids 2 adcs and 0 supports, then another game would leave with 6 tops 0 junglers, 8 mids 1 adc 0 supports now we have two roles with no players so it has to fill two roles now we get 5 tops 0 junglers 7 mids 0 adc 0 supports and it happens again but now we need to fill 3 roles so you end up 4 tops 0 jungle 5 mids 0 adc 0 support.

so as you see the role with the most popularity has the longer queue time for a game for their role and after so long of match making and other roles not have enough players in that role the role that is over filled is most likely to be pull to fill. and they will fill the roles with the least numbers which is typically support. ( this is just an example not exact #s) but you can see where the probability of getting support if you chose fill is more likely then any of the other roles.

ok then lets ask the question then...

how many people do u think que as "fill" and DONT want support and are put as fill support. and HAVEN'T decided to STOP picking fill.

compared to how many people are WILLING to support but have ONE roles out of the 5 they cant play and therefore DONT pick support and now "could" if this was implemented.

Because I'm sure as hell willing to bet people who don't want "support" stopped picking fill a LONG time ago. at least compared to the HUGE amount of players that will now pick "fill" if this is added.

and even if we IGNORE the huge influx of people now able to support because they are choosing fill instead of another lane and ARE willing to support.

the fact that fill goes between FOUR roles instead of two mean the people who DO want a role like mid are MUCH more likely to get it and gave MUCH shorter que times because other people are picking "fill"

if you are willing to support and you dont wanna play X role then pick the role you want and support then you dont have to worry about getting X role that you dont or cant play. say you can mid but dont adc pick mid and support. and if you choose support/fill your 9 out of 10 times gonna be support. and on that 1 out of ten chance that you arent to get a role you dont want is 25% which is actually 2.5% so whats the issue? and if you happen to get that one role you dont want, aske to trade most people will be willing to give up support for the role u dont wanna play.

the issue is i have FOUR roles i like to play. NOT TWO

and because one of those 4 is my "lest favorite" out of the for i DO like to play.. i NEVER put it as primary or secondary. so i have only played that role like 4 times in the last 6 months.

Zed is no where as bad as he use to be. it seems not matter what riot does to try to make the player base happy its not enough, these boards are filled with people bitching or crying about this item, this champ is op, ect ect its liek you get to play a free game , zed sucks but there are counters to him and you can out play him . only the truly good zeds are scary any more. but you cant have everything. if you want all that then maybe design your own game. i dont like to play mid but if im forced to play mid ill do it. im not great at it but im ok on a couple iof champs that i wont feed. but like i said there is only a 2.5 % chance that you get the one role you dont want if you choose the one role you want to play being top/jungle/mid and you choose fill. you know odds are your gonna get support which your ok with, there is a chance you get primary role and if you dont get primary or support you have a 1/3 chance of getting the one role u dont want. instead of being forced into it by the old system or in blind pick .

it is the same problem that existed prior to the dynamic queue and dynamic role selection. in previous seasons when you had just normal draft mode or normal solo queue every one was placed in a pick order 1st pick normally got their choice of whatever role they wanted and last pick 70% of time (approximately) where left as support regardless if they wanted to support or not.

now that we have the role selection people are choosing not to pick support at all leaving a lack of players in queue for support. hence why it takes longer to get a game if you pick mid/top compared to support/fill because there is a need to fill the support role in the queue for match making people who end up choosing fill end up as support because no one / majority of people wants to support. there are a few like me who is a support main. however i dont want to fukin support every game. typically when i queue up and pick my roles i will pick top/adc top/jungle or if i dont care if i support i will choose top and fill or support knowing that even though i chose top as my primary there is about a 75% chance i have to support.

SlntReaper5 votes

I'm going to say something unpopular and say no, it's a bad idea. Just because you don't want support doesn't mean you can say "I don't want support so I'm taking mid and adc." It's not like that. The point of fill is that you fill the open role. By excluding support you aren't truly filling. Besides, queue times will be longer and this would just encourage 4 man premades to take all fill except support and bully that one guy into taking support. It's not fair for solo players.

Okay, here's what would happen. Fill that still has Support as an option will almost always be support. So to prevent getting support ALL the time they will exclude support. Therefore, ONLY support mains will play support causing even LONGER queue times.

How is that any different than now? People that don't want to play support don't queue for support or fill already.

With OP's suggestion, the same people that don't want support can now queue up for 4 roles instead of 2. That decreases queue times.

MisterLayzee1 votes

Actually it's just gonna make the other 4 roles more even, because every game is just waiting on a Support. All exemptions will do is exacerbated the "avoid support" mentally that's already in affect by creating a Support or everything else option.

I think we should be able to pick more than 2 roles and have the matchmaking system take into account the number of roles (or order) that we chose to balance games (someone who picks only two roles is expected to perform slightly better than someone who picked 4 or 5 roles if they are equally good at the game.)

I mean Fill almost automatically means supp. It would be nice to just pick roles like a checkbox when you queue so if you want to queue for 1 position (who main 1 role) you can. If you want to play 4 positions (but not support/adc) then you can. Give people options.

4thHorsman1 votes

I totally agree with this, my main friend that I play with and I like to both pick fill, but I can't mid lane, and he can't jungle. It works for us in that situation because we are queued together and if either of us get our bad roles we trade, but it would be nice to be able to pick fill when I play solo as well, because although it is rare I get placed in mid when i pick fill (It happens usually about once every 15-20 games, which isn't terrible, but could be made better by a fill except for option)

Zedex1 votes

here's an idea, don't click fill if you're not actually willing to fill all roles.

NO one is going to queue as a support if you can opt out of it, theres an extremely low amount of support players already.

Queues will increase tenfold, lol. Simple fix, don't click fill and you won't have to fill the obviously empty position of support all the time. Game hasnt changed like that, you called fill back in the old champ select, you generally got support. In a casual game its considered boring, although there are players who like it, even if there is a small amount of them.

Honestly, I only feel like its new players that want this. Learn 2 roles you like and don't click fill if its not for you. Don't ruin the button or the queue for the rest of us because you refuse to try other roles.
