What being melee really means

Being "melee" in this game means that you have shit target access when compared to ranged characters. In a league where every melee character has to slowly walk up to a ranged character in order to do dmg to them, there needs to be some sort of "band-aid" that lowers the advantage a ranged character gets from doing dmg to a melee while the melee is out of range.

Its a fact that there are multiple bandaids for melees right now. Some bandaids make the melees stronger than ranged characters. Other bandaids make the ranged characters weaker. Other bandaids involve differences in the benifits that some items give melees vs ranged characters and typically, the benifits are geared to favor melees.

So this means that melees get "special treatment". I understand this, but it doesnt feel right to a lot of gamers because it feels like favouritism and thats a constant complaint you hear from gamers on the boards. I am biased, but I wonder if most of these complaints are focused toward melee characters...hmm. Ppl say zed and lee are favorites or riot. Both are melee. Maybe its just because I am biased and remember complaints against melees. Maybe the special treatment and the resentment that builds are related. I think it may be both my bias and some correlation between special treatment and being melee character. But thats not my major point. Ignore this paragraph if you have to.

Anyway. I dont think that melees with really strong gap closers should get the same special treatment in the as a character like sion. I express this idea with the statement that a champion like fiora "isnt really melee. She is pseudo melee". And the fact is that she stands out from scion in a significant way, but still gets similar base stats like a high base movespeed and higher than average base dmg stats. She also has access to really efficient items like hydra and frozen mallet and she gets them at full effectiveness.

Thats not perfect balance. There needs to be a distinction between champions like fiora and scion as far as that melee vs ranged bandaid is concerned. The bandaid is really important for scion because it lifts him up to the level of the playing field. Its MUCH less important for fiora, and really just gives her an distinct, possibly overwhelming advantage compared to him because they both get the same bandaid. In her case, it raises the level of the playing field because she is on a higher level. Do you see what I mean?

Is it just me, or whenever he misspells Sion as scion I think of http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/711vcrdHfRL._SL1500_.jpg ?

This guy has a gun, that guy has a knife. That guy needs to be given a bunch of extra stuff because he didnt pick well. A simple example, but the point is thats the whole point. Ranged is suppose to kite around and deal damage while most melees in the sense of Sion or Darius are front line. If we made everything perfectly 50/50 no one holds an advantage in any sense in any situation. We might as well pick 5v5 blobs that all do the same spells and same damage and attacks.

Im fine with scion and fiora having some things that keeps them viable against range like jinx. They shouldnt have the SAME THINGS. Sion and fiora are both considered "melee", but scion has a range of problems that fiora just slides right past because of her gapcloser. So they are not the same. At all. Yet game after game they build the same or similar solutions.

If you ask me, FIORA should be the one with a temporary shield that makes her tanky and SCION should be the one that takes forever to kill. But they both take forever to kill. I think they need to take a look at the way udyrs sheild mechanic worked and start giving stuff like that to light fighters, but underneath that mechanic, make them just as squishy as an adc.

But scion and fiora do COMPLETELY Different things. Sion is a juggeranut with a long range powerful engage, Fiora is split pushing, high damage, 1v1 dualist usually used to pressure side lanes.

yes. but do they build COMPLETELY different things?

Also, scion is sad when he cant split push. Less hp for passive. Its too bad he cant hurdle walls while ulting. Imagine sion hurdling thru the jg on his way to flank your team in mid lane. Thats so fucking cool. It would make him a good split pusher.

See... now you're just going completely off the rails with your argument. I explained why and the way it is. The game is always changing. Either be patient or be reasonable.

Yea. the sion comment was off rails.

However, you dont seem to understand we are saying the same thing. Sion and fiora have two different roles. Why are they both getting the same bandaids? Why are they building the same items? Its because fiora players realize that they are in a good place to double dip. They can build anti-carry items and fill the carry role at the exact same time. Thats busted

The difference is Sion is supposed to be a juggernaut front line cc monster, meanwhile Fiora is supposed to be a squishy hyper carry. Two entirely different roles.

except fiora isnt always squishy. Maw and Titanic and steracks and her other melee bandaids make her a bit tanky.

those items do, nothing in her kit actually allows her too tho. Master builds those, adcs build maw and steracks. Its the items and how busted they are rn.

No I don't.

It means that the optimal strategy in league is whatever maximizes target access while also receiving the band-aids aimed at supporting other classes of champions than yourself.

Just curious, and very off-top.

Did you use to be on RoG?

Da :O

Vorazun1 votes

Oh. Did you just disappear, or not make the transition to LoLNexus?

OurLestrade1 votes

The latter, I was there more for the PBE updates and stuff. The info was much clearer on RoG than most websites :P

It's coming back soon. BTW it's Fox if you want to know who I am.

The only melee who gets to slowly walk towards his enemies is Mordekaiser.
