Could we get a mode where we can 1v1 or 5v5 people in an arena.....

Could we get a mode where we can 1v1 or 5v5 people in an arena where we all start off max level and can buy any item for free just to practice item setups and champions?

If we had this kind of mode I would be playing much more champs and having much more fun, because practicing a champ in a real game takes way to long, considering the length of the game and or if the enemy team is fed to the point where you can not practice well, or your team is over fed where the enemy team is under leveld and under geared you still can not grasp a good sense of how well or bad you doing based on many factors.

If you want to treat this game like a sport then you should know that sports players do not just practice by playing games. They are able to create certain situations and practice them out. This is why many wanted some kind of sandbox mode which some reason Rito does not want to make, not realizing how well this would work for new players and old.

Oh you mean something like a sandbox mode?

Nope sorry.

According to Riot, it "Does not want players to grind".

Actually their most recent statement is that they want a sandbox mode.

Course they can't possible have changed their minds- that's not remotely close to what can happen with the passing of time- right?

SpaceCaptViral1 votes

Oh yeah it's ok to promise something to the community and don't make it, as long as you have changed your mind about it.

They also want replay system and the upgraded tribunal, i wonder where they are.....

Replays (for now) Well, this one was our bad. Not only did we promise replays at the launch of League of Legends because we thought it was needed to get esports off the ground (maybe not), but by showing them on the PBE we set the expectation that they’d be on the way Soon™. We backed off replays because the technical demands (server loads, backward compatibility, network stability) were so high that we knew it would be hard to do them ‘right.’ These days we also know that with our above priorities, replays just can’t be a consideration until we clean up a lot of those systems. In the meantime, we're huge fans of the alternatives that the passionate community of developers outside of Riot have created, and we're looking into ways to highlight (and support) those good folks.

Also their current stance on the tribunal is that it is not coming back and their automated systems are performing as expected.

Please do 'some' research before making an idiotic post that doesn't add to my statement in any way.

Dextix LT1 votes

So like i said, nope sorry, Riot wont make it. Thank you for proving my point.

Hello I am Bird1 votes

I don't want to sound silly because I'm probably missing something, but didn't he just prove you wrong by stating an updated claim?

Dextix LT1 votes

No, because in the claim itself they say that "Replays just can't be a consideration" .

AKA, they wont do it. or will do it SOON(tm)

RG Velean1 votes

Correction, they said it cant be considered until they clear up what their systems.

That's the actual statement. You can't cherry pick what you want, that's what taking stuff out of context is.

Dextix LT1 votes

Considering the context of Riot promising so many things, yet giving almost none of them, the claim still remains the same. SOON(tm).

I wonder how long will it take for them to clear up their systems? SOON(tm).

Sandbox (aka Training) mode

We were wrong to completely shut down the possibility of sandbox mode. Full stop. Our initial argument - that training mode makes for an even higher barrier to entry - makes some behavioral assumptions that many rightly called us out on. Your passionate feedback and sound reasoning, along with a lot of internal conversations around this vision of League as a global sport have made it clear that our concerns only have the potential to become reality if we’re not doing our job. Providing competitive experiences at all levels of play also means we should be providing the right training tools at all levels of play.

That said, being open to the idea doesn’t mean it immediately becomes our top priority. The internal team that would develop this feature is focused on a different project for the foreseeable future, so while we’re saying we want to do it and, one day, we will, that’s the extent of this commitment. Your feedback has always been a powerful presence in conversations around how we achieve our goals, so while we can’t even promise SoonTM here, we didn’t want to leave the issue canceled. When we begin tangible, focused work on sandbox mode, we’ll update you.

(Quick caveat: when we say sandbox mode, we’re specifically referring to a training mode where players can practice core skills - not a sandbox ‘modify your game in any way’ mode.)

They themselves literally said, no, not Soon(TM), it's gonna be awhile, but it's on their 'to do' list.

AKA, not going to happen.

Many things have been on their "to do list" already, and many of those still are not here.

Or how about just a free for all (maybe like 4 players) game mode, just added to the rotating game mode queue.

So basically a sandbox mode where you can practice with up to 9 friends?

I have no idea why Riot still hasn't implemented a practice mode...

LatetotheRace1 votes

Lazy. I mean, they don't want to spread out the Queues too much.... or some bs...

Athenes Lulu2 votes

Ascension was the closest thing to the "5v5 arena" kind of thing.

Though if you're talking about practice and making settings like gold/etc, then that's the sandbox mode that we all wanted. Though we have heard that they're planning on making it.

I won't be surprised if Riot never makes it happen, since my expectations for them are really low right now. Progress is too abysmally slow that people don't really notice much anymore.

FREE FOR ALL ARENA MODE!

With like a thing where it sometimes grabs 2 random people and throws them into cage above the arena for THUNDERDOME!

If you win thunderdome u get some sort of buff and then the 10 man free for all continues!

IM A FUCKING GENIUS!

I feel like this would actually be a horrible idea. Katarina Katarina
Don't get me wrong, I've thought about stuff like this. But I don't think proper implementation would ever exist. It would be like urf/one for all, people would make up a meta in a couple of days, and you'd never see champions outside of it.

It's FFA

There is no meta because there is no team.

The meta will be anyone who can effectively fight multiple targets at once.

The most obvious reason is Riot is probably lazy

The more logical reason is that you don't get a good conceptual understanding of champion strengths by playing them in a random Arena because a SR match consists of way more details than just 'how well can you brawl?'

The most likely reason is that as with any special mode Riot comes out with, half the community just whines and QQ's about the try-hards while the other half of the community is being as try-hard as possible and the special mode loses all its magic over the course of maybe 2 days of being released.

I see its use to be more used in custom games mode, where you can test builds with a friend. Cause I make a lot of item builds that do no dmg in a real game and why do I have to play hours of games to find out certain items will not work good on X champion vs playing this custom arena mode with a friend to find out in 10min time what works and dont work.

Dryditch1 votes

There's something called theory crafting. If you're good enough at it, testing builds should never be an issue.

"Hrm, I'm against an AP heavy team comp on an AD Auto Reliant Champion. What items should I buy?"

  • Mercurial Scimitar
  • Maw of Malmortius

"Now I have to decide whether i'm bruiser, full damage, or just full tank"

*Zz'Rot *BotRK/Bloodthirster *Guardian Angel

It's really not that hard to theory-test your build using reality checks and doing some simple math.

DarkHeadgear1 votes

How about "I'm a level 5 Irelia facing a Darius top lane who is level 4, and I am maxing W first. What conditions are required to beat him one versus one? Creep wave? Middle of creep wave? Does he need to be down about ~10% hp before you fight? Which abilities could ruin your plan? Etc. Too much to theory craft.

Dryditch1 votes

First, nice necropost.

Second, good questions: So if you're lv 5 maxing W first, you've got 3 points in it, probably. That's 9 health added per hit. Active, it's 45 true damage per hit plus 18 healing. Every hit you land (not including your Q or E) creates a 63 health difference just from the state of your skill maxing. You look at his items, your Q's damage, your own items (maybe you have a sheen from an early back or whatever). Sussing out the ability to take him down with the help of a minion wave is something you can do pretty easily during your own laning phase.

It's also not something related to testing a build. Your relative strength to another player is going to change game by game. Does that Darius run a 1% crit chance rune like UberDanger?

You say it's too much to theorycraft. It's also too much to test flat out. Your build will vary based on game-state, and all you really need to do is look at what items improve your desired end-goal.

DarkHeadgear1 votes

It took me about 10 minutes to correctly calculate how long it would take each champ to kill the other. 20 and 22 seconds respectively not including abilities. Then I need to consider runes, then masteries, then I need to consider varying item builds, then I need to consider positioning and execution. That's a lot just to theory craft off of. An arena mode where I can set values would let me figure this out within 10 minutes.

I'm all about that necro life.

Dryditch1 votes

Just saying, one minion on either side, one use of ability on either side, one crit on either side, and your whole calculation goes up in smoke. You're not a pro player, so a rough estimate of what works on a champ and the approx damage you can output with different stages of your build should be good enough. You don't need the full calculations.

DarkHeadgear1 votes

The calculation goes up in smoke. That is exactly my point. First you can just duel without minions. You can duel with 5 enemy minions, then 5 friendly minions, fine tune the circumstances until you fully understand who can win in specific situations. Of course, there are variables like:

  1. junglers
  2. missed skillshots
  3. summoner spells dodging well placed skill shots
  4. critical hits

Realistically, they shouldn't be considered as often only critical hits can vary your test results. I could even make a spread sheet on how many times a champion wins against another champion under certain conditions and say that this champion has an 85% chance of winning or what not. That's hard to do with just numbers alone. An arena mode would be perfect. It would even spice up the LCS play since they can test what would beat what easily rather than having their math squad figure it out if they even have one.

Kalarepa1 votes

I used to play custom game mod on Dominion map. Both teams would send their champions to 1v1 the enemy in the middle of the map, until one of the team lost all 5 champions. Then they can capture 1 point and start the duels again, until one team wins by points. I don't remember, what was it called, but it was really fun.

Why sit down do a bunch of math for a theory when you can just test it your self right away. Drive away a lot of new players having to spend time doing math because they do not want to make a simple mode as such.
