Are people finally starting to realize Bard is a good champion?

I've been seeing consecutive Bard Supports in my Solo Q draft games. People are finally starting to make use of his godly stun.

I asked a team mate this exact question and he stated that his recent buffs certainly helped.

I said his buffs only upped his damage. To which he replied "poke is valuable"

Son, you don't play bard for his poke, and you don't build him for damage. He's had the power to be a great support this entire time. People have just been playing him wrong until now.

People also said Kalista was a garbage champion, and Gnar, and Azir and the new Sion. But I don't think it was just buffs that determined their rise in strength.

Learning their correct builds and their mechanics is what eventually will make them strong.

I guarantee you Ekko will come out on release and people will complain how weak he is, whilst Bard will become the new FotM because a new exploit or trick was discovered in his kit.

Uhhhh, Bard is only good now because of the 3000 buffs he got; he was mediocre at best.

Afaik, everyone complained about how OP Kalista, Gnar, Azir, and Sion would be.

And EKKO /weak/? He's very strong. Most likely he'll get nerfed after release if his current scalings hit live.

When Bard was first released it was hell because nobody knew how to play him but people that stuck with him are gods. I have seen some sick Bard ults and stuns.

The way I see it there are three types of Bard players. The ones who pick him up, miss every skill and throw the game, the ones who think spending the entire game looking for chimes is the key to winning, and the ones who know and use his potential. Two out of three of these players are playing Bard wrong, so its easy for your average player to dismiss Bard as a "bad champion".

When you play him right though. You can turn a losing game into a win from out of nowhere. I've played a game as Bard where four times I turned what should of been a losing battle. I used my ult to stop an otherwise impossibly escapable gank, I set up one of the best initiate ults-follow ups I'd ever seen, I delayed the enemy team taking baron with my ult so our nunu could steal it. And I've used it on the two nexus towers to allow for an otherwise impossible tower dive. That's only one ability. And it can do all that. It just requires timing, positioning, and a little bit of Imagination! :D

Support shouldn't have to hit lvl 6 to be useful. Supports are supposed to help zone out or secure kills in the very early game.

That's what throwing bobble heads at your opponent and giving your team mates pizzas are for. You imply Bard has zero lane strength when that's not the case. He is lane stall>Lane aggro, true. But that doesn't make him bad.

The problem is other champions being able to do this better. Take lux for example. Her Q is pretty much identical to his except it does more damage, has longer range, and doesn't need specially set up wall smacks.

Lux can't heal.

Lux can't heal.

No, but she can shield you during trades so that you don't need those heals.

Ekko's not going to be called weak on release. Especially not if they keep all of his live numbers.

I can never make full use of thresh because even if I do everything right, my team still can't make the most out of my lantern.

Take this argument, multiply it by 10, and that gives you bard. one of the shout casters said "he's a champion that the Team needs to practice, you can't just spam in in soloQ"

No, he's not.

It should be obvious by now... apparently not. Some people just never learn.

Well, at least when you compare him to Sona he looks really good. However, he's a far cry from Nami-level strength and being better than Sona doesn't mean anything, their are 124 champions stronger than her.

honestly i have no clue... at his price point i might never be able to afford bard since there are so many other things i need to spend ip on.... like runes.... other cheaper champs so i can one day play ranked..... maybe another rune page if im lucky...

but ill be sure to try him out on a free week, he seems to have an interesting take on things, although im not sure i like his play style of roaming

Before Bard's buffs, you had to land everyting exactly correctly to make the most of him, because all he had to offer was utility. If you wiffed the ultility spells, he did nothing else. Now that he has some damage to help the team with, if his utility isn't utilized effeciently he still can be a usefull teammate.

my only problem with bard was that if you f'd up you could end up costing the game hard. But honestly he has always had a shit ton of potential even before the buffs i thought he was good

Bombkirby1 votes

Bard isnt hard. That was not the problem. The problem is people not playing alondside him correctly. People picking up the heal shrines IMMEDIATELY without letting them charge up. Ignoring the tunnel through the walls. Running into his ultimate when you use it to stop the enemies or make a tower stop hitting someone. It's not the bard players its everyone else not understanding him.

Once people learned how bard stun works, I seen many stunning almost every time. Wish his heal things he leaves on ground would root enemy champs for 0.5 sec though.

"I said his buffs only upped his damage."

But this isn't true. His buffs have been:

Stats: Base attack damage increased to 52 from 46. Base armor increased to 25 from 21.

Passive - Traveler's Call: Ancient Chimes: mana restoration changed to (12% max mana) from 15 (+ 8% of missing mana). Ancient Chimes' experience increases by 1 per minute after the 5 minutes mark. Meeps: spawn time reduced to 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 seconds from 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8

Q - Cosmic Binding: Damage increased to 80 / 125 / 170 / 215 / 260 from 75 / 100 / 145 / 180 / 215. Ability power ratio increased to (+65% AP) from (+50% AP)

E - Magical Journey Cooldown reduced to 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16 seconds from 26 / 24 / 22 / 20 / 18 seconds.

Bard's gotten a ton of buffs, not just increased damage. His base armor + AD massively buffed his ability to win trades early because he does more + takes less, but he also does way better from roaming because he gets more mana and experience for it than he used to. He has meeps up more often and that's important for him too. And then the E buff is just kinda there but hey it's something.

Did Bard always have the potential to be useful? Yes, of course. But he was massively undertuned on release and it's taken a lot more than "better damage" to change that. The community did take a bit too long to realise he was good (i.e. until Lustboy picked him in MSI) but I don't believe he was good until his most recent buff.

No, I always knew he'd be ridiculous when played correctly.
