Making a good player better is very rewarding as a Support
But nothing is worse than trying to "enable" a slacker, and that's why most people pass on the Support role.
Maybe pointless but I felt like stating it.

Yeah, supports are a force multiplier on the team. If your team is good you can make them great, but if they are bad you are worthless no matter how good you are (almost).

I agree with you hence why burst mage supports are a thing now. They don't need to rely on the adc as much and can stand their own ground. Support role needs to be more fun to play because as it stands, bot lane is cancer with constant mid and jungl ganks and top TP's and let's not forget the dragon and weak af turrets ( first turret gold ).

I don't know about "enabling slackers"- but it definitely does feel bad sometimes when you know you're playing your Support champion correctly and even, dare I say it, well; and your ADC isn't capable of capitalizing on it.
I just had a game as a Zyra Support alongside a Vayne and she just was having a bad time against the enemy Jhin + Leona lane. Every time I went off to ward or once had a good minute long chase from an enemy Pantheon (I had 100 hp and proceeded to run just outside of his spear range from his blue, up through river, past the raptors, around the red, back to my 2nd tier turret, then back past the 2nd tier turret since he ulted to cut me off, and I lived!)- Vayne would take a bit of damage from Jhin and he'd follow it up with a W that she legit was almost never dodging. Combined with the fed Leona- Jhin was becoming a murder-lane since Leona would jump on Vayne and Jhin would destroy her.
So I ditched her, told her to play safe, and ran around the rest of the map generally destroying the enemy team because I knew I wasn't accomplishing anything down there anymore and I wasn't going to be able to set her up for victory or anything else. I ended that game with the 2nd highest damage out of the entire game- because I knew when to cut the strings and save everyone else.
You can do this with utility and tank supports too- if your ADC just isn't up to scratch, you have two other lanes you can try to help out.
Was just noticing this on a Taric game. It goes real well when my team is good and knows how to commit. It goes poorly when they don't, and then they wonder why Taric isn't doing much.
Well... it's his passive, you see. Gotta actually fight someone to do a lot.
Support players are those who were failures in other lanes, so they got stuck with the least desired role. Fact.[slayer-pantheon-popcorn]
Or those who genuinely enjoy the fact that they are the reason bot-lane won. It is so satisfying seeing say a Draven you supported, fend for himself when you're the one who peeled for him and got him fed when he needed it. In fact, just because someone plays support, doesn't mean they're incapable of playing other roles. They're just not as big of glory hogs compared to those who hate playing support because they feel it has minimal impact on the game. It's just harder to play with all these new champions and CC and insane damage creep.
I'm glad Riot are looking into making support a more desirable role to learn and play, because as a support main myself, it is a very fun role to play IF you know what you're doing.

This SOO MUCH!
I actually did well as an ADC main. Then I started playing often with a friend, who mained the role also. I switched to maining Support so we could wreck people in lane together.
Your argument is invalid. Fact.

I play all roles and carry. Supports have the most impact on the hard ranged carry and I prefer my ADC to be able to get ahead.
Just because you suck at all roles doesn't mean you need to roam around the boards being an asshat.
You may be called a support, but... nothing beats a good old huge deny on a good player in the opposing team. Especially if he's fed and you're not. Especially if no one but you has the tools to do it. Especially if he ends up diving your team for a flashy play and fails miserably thanks to anything like exaust / piled cc / prevented damage and the likes.
