There's no way Brand can be a primary mid laner when you nerf all of his scaling damage/poke whiling buffing his passive damage.

There's no way Brand can be a primary mid laner when you nerf all of his scaling damage/poke whiling buffing his passive damage.

There more to it that just ratios. (While the passive did help his support build, it kinda always been their as an off meta.)

The other part is the fact that they are very much spell slinger. Brands passive means that his spells do more damage or have greater effect when in constant use. Similarly, CDR on Zyra insures a large up time with her plants. And that spell singer nature makes them attractive for the support role because a) Support itemization is flushed with CDR, and b) lower Cooldowns means more up time on your CC, Which helps your ability to support.

Even if you replaced their passive damage with Ratios, it would be difficult to balance them around Mid lane exclusively, without addresssing the aspects in their kits that make them great supports.

Support zyra doesn't really build any CD reduction except sightstone same with brand its Liandrass Rylias then void staff.

No champion should have "support" as a class. Janna should be "enchanter", Brand should be "mage".

Calabok4 votes

NOT ZYRA

but Brand is mid main.

Zyra should be balanced around mid because then Riot would realize how fucking retarded strong her passive is with her kit now.

Zyra needs nerfs, but its hard for Riot to realize I guess because she's being played as a support. Please see Lulu if you need another example of Riot doing this.

An Undead brat2 votes

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............

LankPants3 votes

I'll say what I always have about Zyra, the Damage/lv on her plants is too high and the damage/AP is too low. Per level nerfs and AP ratios wouldn't fix Zyra completely, but it's a great place to start.

GuardAbuse2 votes

This. I run magic pen runes on her because her AP ratios are so just, meh. I go a high magic pen build and deal more damage than my adc, but the AP ratios would do more for her.

For real though, C'mon son..

These Champions should be balanced for mid lane...

^ been saying this for so long now. tired of getting 2v1 by zyra "support" down bot if she gets a lucky snare

TurquoiseYoshi9 votes

I wouldn't really call it lucky if it's a skillshot.

Leave zyra alone, she is one of a kind support that can zone enemey out of lane when played right... but i think brand should be going back into that mid lane. I don't like it when champs fall into lanes they aren't meant to be in but just happend to be pushed into it.

Battlecast Sona2 votes

hilariously a full half of these champions were originally designed for another lane and then became (and some remain) good support picks. I think the only "true" supports on the list are Bard, Sona, and Thresh, and all 3 of them have enjoyed varying amounts of off-role play. Kind of makes what the OP is complaining about seem silly to me.

I Q1 votes

Most are on the supports tab bro

Battlecast Sona2 votes

Karma, Blitz, Ali, Annie, Lux, Poppy, and Zilean were all originally designed for other lanes but have since been popularized/balanced for support.

poppy is more a top laner and trundle is a flex pick

MissFortune : I'm support? Df?

Battlecast Sona2 votes

played in LCS bro. anything can be a support unless you roam on it with smite

Troll for Trump1 votes

That's still support.

The Space Cowboy1 votes

Tell it to the dead adc on your team

Troll for Trump2 votes

Don't 1v2, it's not good?

The Space Cowboy1 votes

If you roam long enough during lane phase when you're ADC has to stay there to farm up, he will inevitably either have to fight out of his turret a little, or get dove under it.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Exactly. The ADC CAN 1v2.

The original comment by Battlecast Janna was that you couldn't be a support if you were smiting/jgling/roaming/counterjgling.

You can do that fine. You're allowed to roam. You're allowed to leave the ADC to 1v2. Bard does it, thresh does it, blitz do it. You aren't the ADCs slave. If you play as such, and aren't a cleric-type of champ, you will never climb.

As long as you don't leave the ADC there for too long, it's fine. But yes, you can jgl, counterjgl, roam, and take smite as a support.

Ivern supp does it, a while ago, Blitz could do it too

The Space Cowboy1 votes

The important part is timing. If you roam before level 6 and your ADC's first buy, he is probably going to die. If you don't get a kill on your roam, you are going to return to lane under leveled and ruin the lane. I'm fine with a roaming support but most people I play with don't understand the windows of opportunity very well, or the ADC's windows of vulnerability. Heck even during Worlds I watched that Likkrit guy roam and throw his lane. It's a razors edge that I wouldn't be surprised if it has under 50% success rate.

Battlecast Sona1 votes

tell that to the guy that got banned for doing it

Troll for Trump1 votes

That was a special case.

You can still roam. You can still take smite. I do that with Ivern support. Not bannable. If you flame about it, you're the problem.

The Space Cowboy2 votes

It's a slippery slope. Most mages have some CC on their kit, and make decent supports. I can also support with Ahri Xerath Annie Veigar although they aren't as good and probably won't see LCS play. I can't quite wrap my head around how to make mages strong early game without making them excel at supporting. Perhaps shift more damage into their scaling from their base damage, then add ap to mage starting items?

Votable Jester4 votes

I would not advise Xerath support. That stun is his only hard cc, and not only is it a single-target skillshot but it also has a pretty darn short duration when the enemy is close.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Brand only has a stun that's the exact same kind of spell, a straight line skillshot, and yet people take him bot, he even has less CC than Xerath who also has a slow and Brand needs to hit one of his other abilities first to stun.

Sammystorm1 votes

brand has a lot higher bases then xerath

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Which has jack shit to do with being a support. I didn't decide to be a support main so I could play mid lane burst mage without having to farm, I decided to be a support main so I could ACTUALLY support my allies to be strong.

Sammystorm2 votes

Higher bases is always a good thing on a support. It means you do more damage with less items which means you have a better early game which translates into a higher chance of your carry actually doing their job. Just because you play a certain way doesn't mean everyone feels the same way. On top of that brand is garbage mid lane and any buffs to his mid lane play will benefit support more so like it or not the majority of players have decided he is a better support then mid and play him as such if you don't like that become really good at brand and prove us all wrong.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

It literally has nothing to do with how I play. Brand. Is. Not. A. Support! If Brand is a support then Aatrox, Cho'gath, Modrekaiser, Lucian, Pantheon, Renekton, Teemo, and Urgot are support champions. If all it takes to be a support is to have high base damage then fuck it, let me take Nami to a solo lane so people can have their kill lane fun bot lane all day if that's all they care about.

There is a difference between someone that goes bot with Brand so they can say, "Whoops, I got a double kill with my high base damage!" and someone that goes bot saying "I'm going to keep my carry safe and work with them to get a kill." Having good base damage does not make you a support, it can help you be a support but it's not what makes you a support champion and there's a difference between being the team member that forgoes farming up gold and being an actual support.

I don't give a shit about whether Brand has a 100% win rate bot lane in the "support" role, it still wouldn't make him a support, he'd still be an APC that just happens to be bot.

Sammystorm1 votes

Well I just have to disagree with you then. brand is a support now. He isn't very good mid lane. He has a kit that benefits him for fighting more then 1 enemy. He has hard cc and he has good damage. He also does better in the support role then he does in mid lane.

So maybe help me out here what is your definition of an "actual support"?

Saianna1 votes

Well people weren't saying anything when Riot reworked Zyra into damage-less support.

So now it's too late.

go commit die45 votes

you can't put "damage-less" and "zyra" into the same sentence

Early game zyra probs outputs more damage in both burst and sustained than a typical adc

Saianna3 votes

I am sorry. it is my bad.

I meant to say that Zyras **PLANTS **deal no damage. I have no idea how I made this huge mistake.. must have been sleepy or something I guess?

To those who disagree, plants are truly alot weaker. MOST LIKELY because support Zyra was too oppressive to deal with.

Downvoting me won't change anything. Zyra is balanced to fit into support role. Supports obviously deal overall LESS damage than mid mages. Which means Riot nerfed Zyra so she could be played alongside ADCs.

Whoever doesn't believe me just go fucking play Zyra. She IS weaker than pre-rework. Bunch of retards.

Her abilities do a shit ton too

Saianna3 votes

Not anymore.

She has more plants, but even en'masse all of her plants deal LESS damage than pre rework plants. Riot just took QUANTITY over QUALITY of plants. Her damage lies behind AOE damage, while plants act as a bonus. So imo she was been stripped from her identity. But saying that will cause major shitstorm and raging waves of butthurt towards my direction lol

EDIT: Anyways, make a thread about Zyra. I'll be happy to join :)
