Is Yasuo supposed to be good at quick trades or long duels when laning?

Quepha··7 votes·1,720 views

As a Skirmisher one of Yasuo's intended strengths should be long duels where he can ramp up his dps, and it looks like he has the tools for that:

  • low cooldown Q as an auto reset
  • repeated use of Q brings about a stronger Q with a knockup that holds the enemy in for more damage
  • as a melee champion with an auto reset he stacks Fervor really quickly so the rest of the fight his dps is much higher

So you'd think that his weakness would be quick trades from bursty champions who get in, deal their damage, and disengage. However, his shield completely covers this type of engage as it blocks a large chunk of the burst damage and is probably up again by the next trade. His weaker quick exchange of E -> auto -> Q is more than most champions' bursts once you subtract what his barrier blocks from their burst and he only widens his advantage if the enemy doesn't disengage immediately afterwards.

Is Yasuo supposed to still lose those quick trades when balanced properly? How weak should his shield be in such a state where it, combined with his autos and abilities, would be less than most champions' bursts?

He's good at everything. It's why everyone hates him.

Who would have thought that putting anti-everything into a kit that has hypermobility and hyperscaling was a bad idea?

Yasuo has got to be the most overloaded champion in the game and it's a joke, if he ever gets ahead you may as well just stop playing, that goes for both teams

For his damage he does best in long duels but his tankiness is short lived.

You do not burst a yasuo, you AA him to pop his shield, then burst him.

So you need to be ranged to even compete with him?

No, many melee champs have an extremely easy time against him. Fizz, Renekton, Mordekaiser to name a few

Irelia Darius Akali Renekton Fizz Mordekaiser Riven Pantheon Olaf Jax Poppy Rammus are your best melee friends whom make Yasuo their b*tch

Remove Poppy from this list. The Nerfs to her lowered her damage and lane survivability so badly she can't deal with Yasuo anymore, she's not getting one shot but she isn't killing him if he took warlord's bloodlust. She gets chunked out everytime she tries to disengage after they spar and she can't lifesteal back to full so she just gets bullied out of lane now.

he is yet another stat check champion, you will lose to him just straight on b5 dueling, you must outplay him, if your stats are lower, outplaying might not even be possible, if he gets near you and you're an adc, there is no outplaying him, so it requires certain types of champions with tanks probably having the easiest time beating him

His 100% crit and lifesteal means pure tanks can't kill him once he finishes his first two items. Even with just warlords and a dorans for lifesteal he gets so much just because he hits so hard that you can't kill him fast enough.

Darius no you dont have to be ranged. Whoever is blindly upvoting you here is a troll.

Wait... WAHT ALL OF THOSE CHAMPS COULDNT POSSIBLY COUNTER YAS.

Yea but if you're a melee champion, getting in range to pop his shield puts you at an extreme risk of taking an extended trade when he dashes through minions to keep his damage going.

ph1234k2 votes

Yes but many of those champs outdamage him in extended fights.

We already established that Yasuo almost always wins extended fights except maybe against Fiora and Post-6 Jax.

Not against many melee champs. Mord is better at what Yas does in skirmishes, doing more damage and having a better shield. Fizz and Renekton also handle Yas so easily unless you simply don't know how Yasuo's shield work but it is really easy. There are many more that work but these are my favs.

For Yas, only his damage is good in long fights, he is too squishy to actually stay in them as we mentioned before he only has 1 second to safely trade.

Early on, he's good at short trades thanks to his shield and high mobility. Later on, he's better in longer duels once he has his crit, but starts losing shorter trades against burstier champions. Early on, you want to force him into longer trades and take huge chunks of his hp. Yasuo is a champion that can only trade properly by being right on top of the enemy, so he needs to be far higher health to trade compared to most champions. Later on, you want to burst him down as fast as possible to give him as few chances as possible to outplay you or lifesteal. That's pretty much how all his matchups go, but especially against bruisers and assassins.

In lane he is meant to be good at quick trades against most melee champions, since their ability to stat-check people usually exceeds his at this point in the game, but can do longer trades against most ranged champions.

Take Yorick for example, someone who he tends to beat in lane due to how their kits interact. Yorick is much stronger in longer fights due to the damage over time of his ghouls. But he has no real way to force a fight on a champion as mobile as Yasuo, and he has relatively low sustain for a juggernaut. So Yasuo chips away at Yorick through poking with his Q or quick trades with his E, eventually forcing him back and possibly killing him.

He is good at shorter trades in early game thanks to his mobility and shield, Later on the game, He is good at extended fights but not as good at shorter trades.

I could survive most of his sh!t,but his Windwall actually lasts nearly 4 seconds.Like wtf? If this ability was on a support,it would scale to that points, It should be much shorter IMO
