Is it me, or jungling just got harder for certain champs?

Wukong Airlines··47 votes·3,398 views

I just tested MonkeyKing in the jungle, and he's pretty bad. now you lost more HP, take more time to clear "not that it was good before the new rune system", overall it just got worse.

imo this new Runes system is a massive failure to some champs, and great success to others.

Wukongs jungle last year was p horrific to begin with.

Wukong Airlines7 votes

and it just got shittier.

Xonra1 votes

Which annoyed me personally last year too. Cause he is supposed to be a jungler. It isn't like he can do much top lane against the other champs that are strong. He is captain ganks well, yet they keep ignoring him out right.

GeminiRune9 votes

It's the lacking of starting stats that tipped me a bit while on PBE. Some champs like Vi, Skarner, and Eve I had no problem with. Other unorthodox picks like Garen, Karma, and Nautilus I saw myself almost dying to Razors at some point (actually dying as Naut - how the hell did I pull that off)

Wukong Airlines10 votes

I don't like where this is going. ADCs and supports "for ADCs ofc" are mostly benefiting from this new system.

This season wont get any better.

Tank masteries are really good too.

And assassin

LankPants16 votes

Most of the tank tree is pretty weak. The keystones are fair but bellow that there's like two good options.

I'd say the Resolve tree is easily the weakest out of the lot. It gives the worst stats, has bellow average keystones and has mostly terrible runes. If it weren't for the fact it's the only defensive tree VS 3 offensive I don't think anyone would go it.

The Yetii Rider4 votes

Uh....If you get 200 minions or monsters dying near you, that's 25 stacks of Overgrowth, which is 5% bonus health. That's the bulk of the power of an old keystone, on a minor rune. And it can stack even higher.

Glory ln Death6 votes

Like they said, there are only 2 or 3 good non-Keystones.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

You only need 3 runes to be good, one at each tier.

Xonra10 votes

So much for all those choices, huh?

LankPants1 votes

That's one of the two good ones, it's that and Conditioning.

Dexamoru3 votes

That 5% bonus health amounts to nothing though when you really add the numbers. Let's say you have 4000 health... 5% is only 200 more health. That's less than one auto attack from an ADC. Even if you double it to 10%... thats 400 more health. Which is still less than one auto attack from an ADC. ESPECIALLY with all the items and the precieson runes that deal more damage based on how much max hp the target has...

Christ Superstar1 votes

Don't forget it's bonus health, if you have 4k health, that leaves roughly 1.8-2k as bonus health (usually less)... Soooo...

The Yetii Rider1 votes

It's not bonus health. Overgrowth starts working from the start of the game. It's based on max health.

At least Naut got an AS buff so his clear didn't get a ton worse (it was just kinda trash to begin with).

Jungling with Sej and Gragas now, two champs who are intended as junglers and generally mostly played as such feels absurdly hard because Riot skipped out on giving them the same +15% AS at lv 1 that almost every tank gained.

I think what I ultimately draw the most issue with is just how arbetrery these changes were. If Riot just went "We're giving all tanks 15% AS and 7 base armour then we'll balance specifics after" that would be one thing, but the way this has been handled is absurd. They're essentially picking and choosing what champs get to maintain resilience to meta shifts via better stats.

BobaFlautist3 votes

Voli is...not the worst, but not having attackspeed feels so bad on him - but it's attackspeed OR hp, not both, and he needs tank stats even more than he needs attack speed.

LankPants1 votes

Voli received base AD and armour, while AS would be preferable for clears the AD should still help him out a bit.

What I'm pissed off about is the inconstancy amongst true jungle tanks. If you look up Zac, Amumu, Naut, Maokai, Malphite all of these champs got +15% AS so they could hold up at least somewhat in the jungle. For some reason Sejuani and Grag were the only two who'd be considered primary or even secondary jungle tanks who didn't receive this buff and it just makes their jungling feel utterly pathetic.

SpecterVonBaren2 votes

Wait wait wait wait. Why did they give Zac attack speed? Of all tank junglers, he's the one that auto's the least.

Sewer Side1 votes

And yet neither of them are truly struggling.

But I guess since your precious main missed out on buffs, you're gonna complain about it...again

Noobtactical1 votes

Sej and Gragas were played in worlds a ton, maybe it's to try and push them out of that top tier level of jungle and give some other junglers some face time? Dunno...

Shadow Gilgamesh3 votes

TFW Nautilus, who was made to be a jungler has been downgraded from "unorthodox" to boarderline unplayable because it's so hard to clear camps [zombie-nunu-bummed]

The Oasis2 votes

I think Rito gave up on him being a jungler long ago or else we would have seen some kinds of changes to push him back there.

Voluug133 votes

They could increase monster damage on his W/E or make monsters do reduced damage while W is active. There are a lot of changes that dont change his laning.

Xonra3 votes

It was more "Riot gave up on him", full stop. Then he became a support, then a top laner, then they nerfed the shit out of him on the whole. Now he can't do anything well enough to pick him over anyone else but flat out bad choices.

CodeDeath1 votes

I didn't have any problems with VI at the first few camps of a game as well, but that changed between minute 5 and 15. Her clear has become weaker imo.

Xonra1 votes

Between 5-15 minutes Vi should be ganking much more heavily anyways (especially closer to that 15 mark), so that shouldn't be as terrible as it sounds.

If you are hard farming as Vi from 5-15 minutes you shouldn't have played Vi.

Xonra2 votes

It's so sad that people have to say "Unorthodox" when talking about Nautilus jungling now. As a champion he should fit right into the tank/cc jungling meta. He is just so weak now sadly in comparison (not saying he is bad, just comparing him to say Sejuani)

Jungle Lux God1 votes

Just curious, when you played Nautilus Jungle in PBE how did you actually die to Razorbeaks?

I was personally testing his clear in training mode and found little difficulty in doing his clear, and I've been playing him since I started in season 3 (although I did take a break last season because I was having tons of fun in other online games, and only really came back for rotating game modes and aram a couple days).

GeminiRune1 votes

Poor jungle order. Too getty for my own good. Should've backed after the first blood pick in bot side river.

Fedoran3 votes

Dark Harvest is worth the harder clears.

Son Foku2 votes

What are you starting and what setup are you using?

I ran AD and AS in the jungle on Wu prior to this, bought machete and refillable potion, could clear pretty quickly and healthy.

Wukong Airlines2 votes

AS was never viable on Wu, Wu is an AD caster, when you wanna 1shot the AD carry even your AS steroid wont come in handy.

Son Foku2 votes

In terms of engaging fights and doing raw damage, no it wasn't. But in terms of clearing the jungle, AD/AS was his strongest path.

Was AD Marks/2 AD Quints/AS Quint/AS&MR Glyphs. Could clear at a good pace and stay healthy the entire time. Top lane of course, pure AD or AD/Lethality was always a better route, but in terms of clearing the jungle, the prior was his healthiest path.

Also I just ran a couple game was Wu in the jungle, he can still clear it just fine. IDK what you're running, but it sounds like it isn't the right thing. I can clear and gank just the same as before.

RisenDarkKnight2 votes

Yeah I just played Hecarim, Rammus, and Ezreal in the jungle. Ezreal was fine (OP with dark harvest, but his jungle clear was pretty same), but Hecarim cleared a lot slower, and Rammus took way more damage (I actually executed at krugs, despite basically maining rammus jungle this season).

Certain champions clear a lot slower, and pretty much all melee champs that don't have a lot of sustain take a lot more damage in the jungle.

Myrkrvaldyr2 votes

However, they cannot afford making jung mobs weaker or those who can still clear well will become broken. In my opinion, the champs that are clearing more slowly should have small buffs that only work on mobs, not champs, that way they clear faster.

Who is Taliyah2 votes

Jungle Taliyah is dead too.. no armor no life

Xonra2 votes

It happens every damned preseason, especially the last two years, and it is getting old. Sure a few people step in there, but I mean like...2-3, but they keep making it harder for others that seem obvious.

That's nice, Twitch can jungle, but...what about Wukong? The second seems a more obvious choice to me yet goes over Riot's collective heads.

Like the OP said, MAJOR success...for some champs. Complete middle finger to others. It is just like the whole taking away the only jungle item Fiddlesticks had a while back and giving him nothing in return at the time. If you are going through to give every champ stats based on your opinion of their optimal rune pages, why not take a few minutes to look at the runes as far as jungling?

Not every champ like..Morg needs a look, but some again like obvious Wukong, should have been given any attention.

Did you try the lifesteal rune? There is a rune that you can stack up to 8% lifesteal with large monster / lane caddy kills. If you pair that with the defensive stuff you shouldn't have too many issues Jungling. I mean, I was able to Jungle Supports with the new Runes so I really don't see how you are having a difficult time with Wukong.

EDIT: BRO, are you being real? I just solo'd red buff in a custom on Wukong without even using my Smite and still had over 75% of my health. I'm positive you are just using the wrong Runes. lol

Wukong Airlines1 votes

tbh I could go any rune page of what've been suggested, Lifestea, AS which would make my clear abit faster and give me more sustain, but where would my Dmg/lethality and tf potential go? I wouldnt be able to climb this way, just be a jungle farming machine.

Lit Corn1 votes

Runes are strong but not as much as an item build such as item 3142 item 3147 item 3071 item 3074 item 3814 , you should rather go for as / lifesteal jungle in order to clear easier and gank more often too , this way you can get these items earlier , so basically stronger powerspikes and earlier , while being safer ... why not ?

Yalathanil1 votes

Nasus I have just had two stomp games playing nasus, running Dark Harvest. The only runes that directly benefit him in the JG are the cosmic insight and ravenous hunter and the domination category benefit. The pool of games is not enough, and i did start getting trolly buy building Nuclear Nasus... but that burst :) spellblade + dark harvest + q stacks... its juicy.

DarkRitual1 votes

Dark Harvest is one of the best jungler keystones right now.

Balance is definately a bit wobbly with the runes, so expect a bit of a roller coaster as they get things evened out a bit. Untill then rock da cane.

If you like nuclear options, try Predator Hecarim.

Tesla Effect1 votes

Wukong was always bad at jungling, specially early game.

ChuShoe1 votes

Kindred wasn't playable before the runes change, I'm honestly too afraid of the terrible match that ensues when I play her AFTER the changes to runes.

Dr Poro1 votes

I'm curious where these fixed stats are going to bring us. I'm pretty sure that pro players will find a way to abuse it and shift the meta. For example tanky supports got a bunch of armor, I think that magic dmg ADCs or Ziggs would be great against those in botlane.

DarkRitual1 votes

It'll take awhile to get things balanced. If he continues to struggle as people try new things, Riot might add something like increased monster damage to one of his abilities, to help out. They've done it in the past to help struggling junglers.

GankLord1 votes

Maybe it's because of the runes I'm using but Elise's clear doesn't seem to be as good either.

Fegone1 votes

Yes, you might be right. I played Khazix jungle and I loved it with the new runes. Haven't been able to test on other champs yet, but I can see where some champs might be struggling to find a new good jungle build on the runes that could make their pathing and clearing better.
