Daily reminder of how stupidly strong Ignite is

melior sum··50 votes·12,884 views

Just reminding you

In case you didn't already know

And have noticed your top laners have stopped taking TP because why take TP when you can just have an ignite war top.

Can't dodge the dmg btw

505 true damage at max rank btw

That's 25% of 2000 health btw, let that sink in

Ignite is too strong, but the reason behind no one taking tp is because it has 6 freaking minutes cooldown 6 minutes that's like 3 uses in an entire game

Ugh there are multiple reasons. 2341239183912 minute channel is one of those

Oh no adcs take tp lets nerf the shit out of it, fuck toplane.

Thefrostyviking2 votes

As if marksmen were the only ones xD

Plenty of midlaners did it too back then.

I did it on malz and anivia.

Hexs Fortune11 votes

I'd lower it's early game damage.

and a well timed TP can literally BD and win a game.

Let that sink in.

l to the o, to the l

How often do you have a game winning TP to back door and win the game, like 1 out of 15 games?

iDarkWind1 votes

Ignite is better for someone that wants to splitpush and prioritize duel potencial, however, if you take ignite over TP as top laner you're in the risk that you won't impact the game at all until mid game probably. Why top laners having finally other choices besides TP is a bad thing ?

Sett a trap1 votes

It's not. I don't understand why the OP is freaking out about ignite. If anything, barrier and cleanse could use some buffs.

Gramps691 votes

I could not disagree more, how about instead of buffing damage/healing/shields to be on par with damage options we cut back the damage options' power to bring it in line with defensive options?

It seems like a massive chunk of the community hates the insta-gib damage meta, so cut back on that more instead of just buffing everything and turning this game into COD

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Because committing to an engage just to be faced with an unkillable amount of shielding isn't fun either. No need to double dip on the not fun factors.

Gramps691 votes

Obviously you need to strike a balance between the two, otherwise a fight between ADCs is a tank-on-tank noodle fight like you'd see in top lane in early seasons of the game.

I think the first thing needs to be removing unnecessary instances of true damage from the game. Conqueror should just get changed to Fervor of Battle and stack AD/adaptive damage based on spells hit/autos landed on champs.

Ignite should stay with dealing True Damage but have the damage on it dropped by about 50ish so it's not as overwhelming in the first 5 minutes.

IE should be reworked so it doesn't deal True Damage, keep it so it doubles crit chance or something, but remove the True Damage component so you can still itemize effectively against it.

Master Yi needs a mini-rework anyways, so you could change his E active to give bonus physical damage on autos.

Vayne is fine, however they rework Guinsoo's should help balance her out.

Vel'Koz is fine on True Damage as well since his is much more conditional and strategic.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Because its too powerful.

Ignite vs no ignite means instant lane dominance most of the time, it almost shuts down healing and grants true sight.

Barrier? Blocks 2 ticks and nothing more .

Ignite doesnt just affect toplane, it hits midlane and botlane too....hells pretty much every support i see in recent times roll ignite., even the dang soraka and janna´s do.

iDarkWind1 votes

It just means the enemy top laner has pressure on the early game only (because Ignite is flat damage and top laners are usually bruisers or tank that build HP). Apart from that, he loses to his opponent when it comes to have a safety back without losing waves of minions while at the same time not being able to follow on a Dragon / Bot call.

Barrier is still quite powerfull, and at least in my rankeds I see it being taken by the enemy (usually mages) to help against burst comps. Also, it blocking 2 ticks means nothing because it wasn't meant to counter ignite.

You pointed out that Bot lane is also dominated by ignite supports, but I disagree that the reason is because that ignite is much powerfull. I would say that meta champions at the moment are not burst champions, wich lead to exhaust not being very valuable against those champions. Also, the attack speed slow remove on exhaust also had a huge impact on this.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Early game only? How long does it take to finish one item? 12-15 minutes?

Ignite basically ensures dominance for that time without any great outside influence.

And you do not find it an issue that many assassins/burst mages have enough damage in their kits to kill a not tanky opponent already then they stack external damage boosters like duskblade/luden ontop along with ignite to ensure that even if a portion of that initial damage is indeed blocked by barrier the target still dies?

Like i have seen mages blow up from a fizz at 6 with sheen only, and the fizz'es missed their ults, and fizz is by no means one of the strongest ones right now.

As for botlane, right now Lucian, sivir, MF, vayne, draven , xayah and new ez? Are all in the top 10 of marksmen, all of them are strong from a early point and several are extremely burst heavy.

Supports like leo can legitimately chunk like 40-60% of a marksman health in a single rotation at 6 with a couple of auto´s or so, add ignite doing 205 outa 875-950 max health and suddenly its nearly possible for the supports to completely murder the marksmen on their own.

Its far too powerful in comparison to the other options, this is easily seen by how damage hasnt decreased at all while exhaust still isnt picked.

I play Riven top with Spellbook. I'm well aware of how strong ignite is. I typically take flash+ignite+spell book and rotate through TP after using ignite on an attempt to kill at level3 or 4. Then barrier/heal/cleanse to rotate/get the spellbook CDR.

I don't make up made up stats to pad my arguments though. Secondly, ignite is single target and it needs to do a lot. You have your own summoner spell too. Barrier absorbs a lot as well end game. Stop acting like some sort of ignite/meta victim.

Gramps691 votes

Barrier can only block two ticks of ignite if timed perfectly

chipndip13 votes

Nah, you should take TP in top lane.

Losing out on exp and map presence in the off chance you don't win out, even with Ignite...the risk is too big.

DeathBurst1 votes

Yeah, that's what I was saying when TP was on a 4 minutes CD. And then again when it was on 5 minutes + +1 s of channel.

But now that it's on 6 minutes and no reduction for canceled TP? Yeah, sorry but even me I gave up. It's gonna be Ignite for me all the time. Especially since I play champs who have bad TP plays.

Even you ??? lel. Tp is still hella strong, just in gold and below most junglers are bad so they wont punish. In most game, i just need to gank the ignite player once (in early lv) and his game is over.

But yeah, you play garen so ignite is better. High elo keep playing with tp : so no, ignite isnt better.

Ristiu (http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=riste) play TP one every 30 games or so. So no, high MMR players don't play TP either.

Same for Jay Sea (http://oce.op.gg/summoner/userName=thelilteapot). Same for fogged (http://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=foggedftw2).

Fogged has always run Ignite even when BoxerPete was running TP, it's not because TP was weak then. Just a playstyle thing, and both were in challenger. Though, I don't think BP has played during the 6 min TP patch and suspect even he might switch to Ignite. Jaysea changed though, I remember him running TP last time. Riste explained why Garen is not a good TP user, because he's not a champ that can make good tp plays with his kit - and that Garen needs the kill pressure in lane.

I think RTO still runs TP on Renekton the last I saw him.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Why would anyone even take tp top anymore. Unnecessary in soloQ especially anywhere below masters.

Moody P3 votes

tp is still superior on side lame pushers like illaoi and nasus

Sharpest glasses1 votes

They're many situation where tp is better than ignite.

If you pick Shen top, your jungler is Kayn vs Renekton & LeeSin or Darius & XinZhao can't see ignite being superior here.

LSmaster161 votes

While this is probably true now, ignite Shen was hilarious before Riot gutted his damage a couple times.

Sharpest glasses1 votes

deserved tbh.

When tanks are lane bully, its stupid.

chipndip12 votes

Because

  1. If you get ganked and die early, you auto-lose lane because you lose a ton of exp walking back rather than tp'ing back.

  2. If you have Ignite and the other guy has TP, that ups their map pressure against you.

  3. Knowing where you are and what you can do becomes a whole lot simpler when you're in a side lane with Ignite rather than TP.

Z3Sleeper2 votes

TP is definitely still the better option. Extra kill power top doesn't do as much as the potential and threat TP brings when it's available. Tons of games are won by a TP to bot lane.

Cry more dude, oh noo, finally another spell can be taken top instead of TP? QQQ

You mean a Summoner Spell that's designed to do damage, actually DOES DAMAGE? Wow Riot, that's fucking unacceptable!!!

What the fuck is Riot thinking, having functional Summoner Spells like Ignite? We all fucking know that League can not have anything that does its job because then it's too strong because everyone is getting KILLED! Dying in League is just unacceptable because then it clearly means you're a feeding piece of shit who needs to get reported and banned after just one game.

#/s

Hey OP, did you know that Ignite is also countered by an HP pot? Who would've thought, huh?

If you pop a Heal during Ignite (assuming both are level 18 spells), Heal will negate 41% of its damage - making ignite's damage only 298. But i know, i know... Actually using Ignite to score kills in aggressive lanes is bad, amirite?

I'm not here to fellate others. That's how most people on GP boards get their upvotes anyway. Just say that Riot doesn't know how to balance their game or take offense that they're buffing/nerfing your favorite/least favorite champion or how they care more about pro play than the casuals or threaten that you're going to leave if this/that doesn't get implemented/fixed immediately, etc. You get the idea.

Ignite was buffed specifically because it was never picked due to being countered by every shield/heal/regen stat. And it didn't deal enough damage to warrant replacing it with a TP/Barrier or Exhaust on bot lane. Now that it actually performs as advertised, it's a problem?

500 true damage on level 18 is so weak that you can't just look it and compare on the average squishy HP bar in a vacuum. No one is going to stand around and let themselves burn up from a "free" ignite and do nothing. It's not instant damage SS, it's a DoT. Which means it's soft countered by a lot of things.

Yeah that's the thing , Ignite was buffed as a buff to assassins in bot lane meta against shields , now that shields are gutted , the ignite buffs should be reverted , also ignite isn't countered by heals , ignite does counter heals by itself the thing having enemies taking 3 ignites every match is depressing , if you do too much well and you are the only hope for your team , you will get ignited 3 times in the fights " had a time where I died purely to 5 ignites "

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

Ignite wasn't buffed to cut through the shields. It was buffed because of the lack of diversity between summoner spells and because it sat unused for the thing that was designed to do - counter healing and secure kills.

GV debuff already existed on items so swapping to Ignite for that reason alone was unnecessary and detrimental to the already established TP meta. Now shields are where they should be and they're not in every game but the Ignite buff still holds true.

Ignite doesn't counter Heal because it doesn't stop it. GV debuff only halves healing but that Heal still happens instantly and it gives you extra HP that Ignite now has to burn through. That means that Heal reduces Ignite's effectiveness by 41%.

Having 5 ignites on your ass doesn't make you burn for 5 times more damage. They don't stack either. It only increases the Ignite duration if they overlap and the stronger Ignite ticks will finish first and then apply the remaining weaker ticks of other Ignites, for the remaining duration of newer Ignites.

Heal counters Ignite anywhere from 67.5% - 41%, from level 1-18. Heal counters Ignite harder in the early game while it loses 20% of its effectiveness in the late game because Ignite, as an aggressive SS, wasn't meant to become useless.

Barrier counters Ignite by 40% from level 1-8. Any shield that can be cast on demand counters Ignite more or less, depending on its duration and strength. And so do other healing/regen effects.

I'm sure being super gold inefficient by building defence items (that are already gold inefficient to begin with, thanks Riot Games) where only the HP and none of the other resistance aspect factor into countering Ignite (so 2 layers of inefficiency already), as well as gimping your own scaling by building defence if you happen to be a DPS character (and now triple inefficiency), is so worth and clearly balanced counter for a single Summoner's.

/s

That's like saying a champ is balanced just because they aren't strong enough to literally 1v5. If something needs extreme over-commitment to try and deal with, chances are, they are not balanced.

Like I said previously if you are a fragile champion that builds no defensive items of course it will do a good chunk of damage .. what would you prefer it be nerfed so on any champion that builds health items it becomes basically a nothing summoner spell ?

Gramps691 votes

I think the point is that it's a powerful summoner for early game in terms of the damage it does. Late game its damage should fall off since it's up much more often than other summoners and should be more strategically used to cut healing or keep true sight on stealth champs (not Akali obviously lololol)

As someone else had said before somewhere, Ignite is supposed to help you secure kills when the opponent runs away in low HP and not to outright give you kills by doing so much damage.

The current Ignite deals so much damage it's equivalent to a second ulti on standby. It's clearly over the top.

looks like there's a small buff to teleport on the pbe

as for bot lane, i feel like supports taking ignite is usually significantly better than taking exhaust, does anyone else feel this way? i feel like they need to buff exhaust or something, even if it's just a small buff. either that or at least nerf ignite early game slightly.

i just like the idea of exhaust being a more viable pick while still having ignite be a good choice as well. i at least want to see exhaust more often than i currently do.
