New Ryze is cancerous.

perma snare with Q W. Don't believe me? try him out. Or try to play against him since everyone is spamming him top lane now. Holy shit once you get snared you can't get out. And people are complaining about Ekko? Just going to ban him every game until the hotfix. Because a perma-snare is never a balanced thing.

His winrate even for top in Plat+ (champion.gg) is only 51%. Broken is an extreme word to use but he's basically like an Annie. If you're in his range when he's close to supercharged and with ult., you'll get shredded and snared more than once due to how his CDs work. On the other hand, he does have a short range, lacks mobility, is very mana hungry and needs scaling items. He's also mostly single-target focused, light on the CC (overall much less than Mao etc.) and isn't really capable of initiating or providing a frontline. Most top-laners, such as Hecarim, are able to initiate and dive the back-line. Also, despite people's claims that Ryze is a late game champion, I think he's strongest early-mid game where it's mostly skirmishes. He is amazing in 3v3s but far less so in 5v5. In fact, his winrate drops to 48% as Top when games go past the 40 minute mark in Plat+.

These are the facts from a balanced point of view. With that said, laning vs him is very frustrating. When he is "ready to go" with a high mana bar, his passive and his ult., he is among the very best duelists in the game if not actually the best. The picks I've seen work best are Wu'Kong, Irelia, Hecarim, Rengar, Anivia, Akali, Mao (not as bad as the LCS game suggested), Renekton, Fiora and Vlad. Anivia can abuse Ryze's short range while being more impactful in teamfights and not particularly easy to burst. She can control the lane enough that Ryze will basically never get a chance to do anything. Fiora and Wu'Kong have very high damage while being able to "dodge" Ryze's passive with their own ults. if timed properly. Irelia's tenacity also works great against Ryze since the W is less impactful and yet she also has high burst.

Is he overpowered? I'm not actually sure but I'd lean towards "Yes" because I think his early damage is a bit too much. On the other hand, people don't see him much and don't respect his stacks or range. I think this is in part Riot's fault since the stacks show up the same blue color instead of being something more easily identifiable like red (suggesting danger).

Lets see, a Champ with a 4.6% popularity is complained less than a champion with a 31.2% popularity. Nope, the statistics are perfectly fine, it would be far stranger if more people complained about Ryze than Ekko with that play rate.

Heck, a if a champion has a 3% or less play rate but is super OP, they should have far less complaint threads than a champions with a 30%+ play rate who is just frustration.

Hope your kind gets actual cancer so you can see the difference between cancer and calling something that is nothing like cancer that.

In order for Ryze's W to re-snare, he actually needs to cast his Q twice and his E once during his passive's effect. That's after his snare is rank 3+

Yah I wouldn't go against him top if I were you. Just wait until they fix him. Until then, make sure hes banned or if your team can get him first then go for it.

With Ryze you either have to build MR or abuse his weak early game. Building MR on someone with fair sustain burns through his mana. He can spam his weak abilities to be quite strong, but it doesn't make him any less of a mana whore. Also he has the weakest early game build path in the game right now. He starts either RoA or tear, then goes to the other. Very easy to abuse. I have a feeling you were using an assassin or glass canon fighter.

It actually means a lot when you look at high level games, way more than what anyone writes here. It's also not about "realizing Ryze's power just recently." Many Ryze players tried him after the rework and realized he was too terrible pre-25 to be worth it. Now he got buffed and thus is performing much better.

He isn't an Azir or Kalista. It's not that hard to figure out how to manage your passive and positioning factors are the same as the old Ryze. He is simply not performing on par with the QQ because a top laner often brings a lot more than some snares and high damage during a short window. He has high dueling and skirmishing capability but that's about it.

When looking at Plat+, I think winrates are quite indicative of strength barring some incredibly high skill-cap. This is why I can believe that Ekko may be slightly too strong despite a mediocre winrate. For most champions though, it's just very well reflected and LCS results pretty much match the Solo-Que results. For example, Jinx and Sivir are the most successful ADCs in LCS and ALSO in Solo Que.
