I've seen close. I've also had pure-MR Galio vs. 5 AP. Oh, you all bought void staves, abyssal, liandry, morello, rylai, sorc shoes to try to penetrate it? How cute... I can still tank your entire team (but might die to towers without armor).

Blitz crumbles to poke while Alistar takes like 0 damage assuming you build properly tanky (start giant's + pots or so). and has built-in sustain. And all of Alistar's abilities are targetted. There are so many snowballs that it's not as easy to tell that you face Alistar's must-dodge snowball, either.

Having played both quite a bit, I don't see any real comparison. I'd take Alistar any day.

this IS true, but most people dont' know how to play alistar and usually exchange him for another champ, though you are right, R right as you get to the enemy and they literally can't touch you as you damage them. shame he's not that viable in real games, but then he'd be "op"

I've been terrorized even by some relatively bad ones.

But I actually wrote the OP after destroying the other team with Alistar myself. Still doing good damage with 9/21 and tank runes, just need a sheen-based item and lots of HP, with extra mana pots until you have a decent amount of mana (e.g. frozen heart).
