Let enemies 'steal' the Thresh lantern and travel to Thresh

Qsario··29 votes·2,288 views

I think it would be cool to add a bit more counter-play to Thresh's lantern by making it so that enemies could click on and 'steal' it, travelling to Thresh. That would make it quite a bit more interesting as he wouldn't be able to use it to thoughtlessly bail everyone out all the time.

That would be unbalanced as shit.

You would literally be doing the initator's job for him by giving him a free ride to the backline.

Blitzcrank Although I agree. Why not let the enemy damage the lantern twice to "destroy" it.

So why exactly would Thresh voluntarily pull that Udyr straight into himself?

Amusing, but a silly idea.

Thresh's lantern grants line-of-sight in areas and can/SHOULD be used instead of facechecking bushes. This would completely defeat the point of that utility

Derpy Mike8 votes

Or maybe it would cause Thresh players to think about where they're throwing it or what they're doing.

For once.

Kitten of Evil5 votes

Using a utility move to check bushes rather than face-checking them does require some thought. Lux's E, Maokai's E, Zyra's W, and the initial cast of Caitlyn/Nidalee traps all do this. These uses of skills do require thought and that should be rewarded.

Derpy Mike2 votes

The only thought that goes into mindlessly tossing a long range skill, like all of the ones you listed, into the fog of war is "Am I going to need that skill again some time within the next 10 seconds?" And that's really not enough thought to warrant a reward, in my opinion.

Kitten of Evil7 votes

You might notice another trend: all those skills (including Thresh's) are on very immobile champions, for whom a mistaken face-check would mean death unless flash is up. Take out the line of sight granted by these skills, and you only punish immobile champions even more.

Also, is using a vision-granting skill only to find the bush empty a "reward"? A bit, maybe, but you're still down one cooldown and a handful of mana (Lux's in particular is very expensive).

Well, not necessarily death for a Maokai (tanky little guy that he is), but you're right about pretty much everyone else. The number of 5 man death bushes I've watched go to waste from getting a sapling dropped on them is really hilarious though.

Throw lantern to save adc Pulls enemy Alistar into own team Alistar "You can't milk those"

That idea, while awesome, is a little too DotA-esque to be put in league

Oleandervine3 votes

Yeah, this is a terrible idea. There's risk vs reward and then there's this. Thresh's lantern is essential for him to shield allies and pull them from harm's way. You absolutely NEED to use this in the heat of battle to protect your allies and provide clutch saves, so making it something your opponent is going to mad dash for defeats the purpose. How you come to the conclusion that making this most basic of support skills have such a strong negative effect, I have no idea.

But Thresh thematically pulls you to him >_

Yulen Xoshxius1 votes

And thresh can use it to drag an enemy into a trap! Although Thresh should be allowed to pull it back himself if enemies can grab it though.

Cenobite Azaziel1 votes

Maybe a necessary interaction, like pressing W again to pick the lantern again if a allied hero pick it up. So tresh can mess up his lantern.

Adolf Ghostler1 votes

That's the worst idea ever since Whisp troll fountain teleports.

Derpy Mike1 votes

Yeah Great idea, but don't hold your breath. Thresh is the Lee Sin of support. That means he's currently under the effect of Nerf Immunity of #LC$Bigplays.

He's not allowed to have a weakness because he's fun to play and watch.

Excitidly Insane1 votes

Yeah I can see this being fun, as ADC mains absent-mindedly click the lantern by mistake as Thresh threw it over a random creep, and before they know it they have walked towards the lantern and are now right in front of the very thing they wish to be as far away from as possible.

I'd give it 12 hours on the PBE and 3.5 on live before Riot are asked to revert it.

GaleWinUnleashed1 votes

Less. If this ever made it to PBE it'd be gone in under 3 hours.

So basically u want to hook yourself to Thresh ? Sometimes even by accident in a team fight? - If so I predict an increase in the report category "Griefing: Assisting enemy team".

This goes way beyond counterplay and into troll territory.

As a support main, if Thresh's lantern can allow the enemy team to grab his lantern, I am totally done with my Thresh.

SolarCarbon1 votes

Pls no

Saint Archer1 votes

this would make thresh a terrible champion. oh you want to save your ally from the fed graves? whoops automatic double kill. and if blitz could grab allies it would cause thousands of trolls to take roost on blitzcrank and cause him to be banned from LITERALLY every single ranked game. the whole thing about thresh's lantern is that the ally can CHOOSE to jump to him, if he has no choice then people are going to join games just to troll teammates even worse than they already are. what an idiotic idea... both the thresh lantern and the blitz ally grab.

Icy Auron1 votes

How about making Thresh's lantern destructible? You can already step on it to prevent enemies from using it, and if you're at that range, you should just be able to break it. Or make a LANTERN grant more sight and have a smaller cast range to give some incentive to be used more like a ward, and less as a free escape.

Qsario1 votes

'Crushing' it by stepping on it like a Zyra seed would also be good. But the fact that it's not something you automatically want to do (do you really want to tower dive as adc/supp when they're fleeing?) and very situational gives it more of a skill factor behind throwing it out rather than that always being an automatic free escape from halfway across the screen.
