You're straight up showing your team a potential pick and reminding them of a possible game that went bad. If they see you hovering teemo / shaco / heim / eve / ETC they'll be more inclined to ban it. If your intention is to have the team not ban something, just ask to ban something else.
it also gives them some insight into what you plan to pick and are probably at all experienced with. For example if first pick takes support or top and they pick a certain champ you may want to not pick something that doesn't synergize with said champ
i always ask people to intend pick.
