Player mentality around "open mid" is skewed.

You would rather "open mid" so you could get into another game that you have a higher chance at winning than just try to rough it out and win the current game?

That means you will lose the first game and possibly come back to a net LP of 0 IF you win the second game. But if you just try to win the First game without "open mid" as soon as you feel like you're down and out, you could come back on top and be in a net gain of +20-30lp instead.

Your logic is skewed and you're cancerous to this game.

Not everyone has the mmr of a W/L netting 0 LP change. My win is 25 while the loss is 14.

So that isn't why open mid is a bad mentality in lower ELO. Open mid is a thing in high play because players in that ELO rarely make game throwing mistakes, so once an advantage is established there isn't a viable chance to miraculously turn the game around. Lower ELO, on the other hand, is the breeding ground of mistakes and the best place to not open mid.

Some people don't have a lot of time to dedicate to gaming. If all seems lost it's logical for them to surrender than try and drag it out for a win. Time vs LP.

I mean if it's 27-3 I'm gonna open. Sometimes you gotta accept your team mates have no idea what they're doing. I had a Corki give up on farming and roamed because he died once.

If Riot wants people to care about not opening, they'll reverse some of the last 4 years of snowballing they've done. Outside of that, welcome to your results.

If you say 'open mid' in my silver games, I hope you get sodomized by a railroad spike.

Lol I gained like 30 LP/win last season all the way to gold 1, where I stopped, because I really just wanted Victorious skin. Losing a game quickly and then winning the next one doesn't result in a net gain of 0 for me.

when my team is down 10 kills, enemy has 2 dragons. enemy has first blood and tower first blood

and im the only person positive score wise on my team yeah ive asked if we could open mid

or when some one feeds 5 kills in 5 mins before afk'ing yeah

I agree that open mid is a bad strat, but honestly people wouldn't use it as often if it wasn't so difficult to legitimately surrender. Being held hostage by a minority of your team isn't fun.

This entire concept started in Korea.

In Korea, people play in PC Bangs, basically PC Arcades.

You pay a fee per hour, and people didn't want to waste time losing, so they started the "open mid" to maximize their time in PC bangs.

Basically the way it worked out, was if you were to Open Mid on a losing game, you would get into another game that you might win faster. This (theoretically) increases your LP gain / hour but shortening losing games. I say theoretically because not everyone is on an upward trend, and you don't always know for sure that a game would have been a loss.

At a more basic level: if you are getting stomped, then the game isn't as fun. Why pay money per hour to NOT HAVE FUN? Just open mid the lost game and play another.

Elsewhere in the world, where people play on their own machines, this practice was adopted. Does it have as much basis outside of PC Bangs? No.

But that is how Open Mid became a thing.
