What if we removed Yasuo's Dbouble Crit passive and gave him Crit scaling on his Q instead?

Like Xayah ?

I personally feel this would be great for everyone involved, including the Yasuo players.

Crit scaling AND being able to crit on a single ability is bullshit. His passive should be changed from double crit chance and less crit damage to simply more crit damage (maybe even lower damage if not critting) and regular crit chance.

Obviously he wouldn't have both. His Q instead would simply always count as a crit without actually being one.

Yasuo is too squishy to build more crit items. To put it simply, Yasuo only builds crit because he's heavily incentivized towards it, and this actually keeps him balanced, because it keeps him squishy. If crit is suddenly unattractive, you see things like bruiser/off-tank Yasuo, and nobody wants to see that again.

The crit scaling on his Q would have to be nuts to offset the loss in DPS that would come from losing 50% crit on his normal build, and sure, it would make him arguably more skill-intensive, but then there are also other side effects. It makes his harass pattern into a even more of a poor man's renekton combo than it is now, front-loading that damage makes him burstier, and if you trim enough damage so as to avoid the other two problems, then all you've done is take away loads of his damage without proper compensation and now he's trash.

Im aware.

I disagree. All it would really do is make his scaling the the early to mid game less janky and spiky. A good part of the frustration with Yasuo is how because of his Doubel crit, even when he is behind it provides such a massive spike that it doesn't really feel like he is behind. With an actual scaling as opposed to just a flat multiplier, it would make him scale more evenly throughout the game. this is good for Yasuo as well as he is less RNG prone in those early parts of the game as well.

Let me rephrase my earlier statement then. If you remove HALF of Yasuo's damage per second and move it into a single strike of his Q, then you've made him very bursty. If you add any less than half his current DPS to his new Q scaling, you've only nerfed him. This much isn't up for debate; it's self-evident.

And to explain my Renekton comparison, "dash in, cc+damage, dash out" is how both champions trade in lane.

Anyway, I'm not certain you've fully considered the ramifications of what this change would mean. At best, you've reworked him into a pseudo-assassin with his new burst and unreliable DPS, and at worst, crit yasuo is no longer viable and we all go back to some variant of Frozen Force.

It isn't half his damage. its potentially anywhere between half to a quarter, and only if he opts to not buy anythign but 2 crit items and only on his auto attacks.

Even currently, he is still prone to RNG.

That said, his Q is being compensated to make up the difference, at which point i fail to see the issue. All this means is that Yasuos are more reliant on actually landing their Qs as opposed to just ramming into whatever is in front of them with autos, separating the good yasuos from the less good ones.

And to explain my Renekton comparison, "dash in, cc+damage, dash out" is how both champions trade in lane.

I don't see what your point is tho. he already does this.

Stop right there. yasuo is already a pseudo assassin.

with his new burst and unreliable DPS,

I fail to see how.

and at worst, crit yasuo is no longer viable and we all go back to some variant of Frozen Force.

...care to explain why?

I'll cover the most important thing right off the bat and the rest will just be extra arguing.

As it currently stands, his passive very quickly turns crit into a steady, reliable damage steroid. Your changes will make crit items on Yasuo less attractive than they are now because his damage will become RNG-dependent one moment and dodgable the next when he has to land a q, thus taking away its reliability. If crit is no longer a reliable damage steroid, it will no longer be attractive, and then he'll build bruiser, the same as he's done over and over again as soon as a build pops up that's remotely viable.

Now for the other stuff.

  • 3-crit builds will not turn into a thing because he'd be even squishier than he is now.

  • Yasuo is currently not a psuedo-assassin; a single rotation of his abilities does middling damage at best.

  • The arpen on his ult is now a lot less useful because they made it crit-dependent to help kill Frozen Force.
