and i don't know how i should feel is it a gift? sounds more like a curse. A curse because people are meta sheep, i used to play ADC darius in d1 and now if i lock in ADC darius the top lane locks in an adc and forces me to go top lane The better you become at the game and climb, the less you're rewarded the game becomes way more locked, you see Sion picked one time over 100 games, you wonder around asking what the fuck are those champions Fiddlesticks XinZhao DrMundo TahmKench why do they exist, and why riot aren't even buffing them yet. You fight everyday for broken champions like Vi to be nerfed just to see Darius nerfed for no reasons at all.

But do you want to know the worst? games decided at 5 min. At 5 min i can look at every lane and know if i'm going to win or lose. There is no comeback mechanics at all, you're level 9 jhin and manage to kill in 1v1 a really fucking terrible level 11 draven you're rewarded with 1/2 of your xp bar? you're fucking kidding me? if it happens in dota you gain at least one level if not two which makes the game always tense except if one side continues to outplay the other side and in this situation this side deserves to win "but Rubick just go play dota then" shut the fuck up about what i should play, last time i checked dota doesn't have jhin there are things that are precious for me in league and i don't want to lose

If only this game offered more balance for high elo :/

How are the Queue times way up there?

people are going to be jealous but they're fast because support mains are like the majority right there, support is an overpowered role in high elo

The least played role is..... Top lane I want to play jhin adc and i can't remember the amount of time i had an adc autofilled top lane

A curse because people are meta sheep, i used to play ADC darius in d1 and now if i lock in ADC darius the top lane locks in an adc and forces me to go top lane The better you become at the game and climb, the less you're rewarded the game becomes way more locked,

At this point, it's** my experience** VS the meta experience. Although i've used the term meta sheep in quite a few of my arguments, it's only reserved for people who follow the meta blindly and don't think about why the certain meta exists, in order to find a way to break away from the mold successfully.

Meta isn't something that's inherently bad. It's a way of playing the game, according to the collective community experience. Which means that certain roles/champions are considered to have greater chances of victory at that time, therefore seeing more play. Naturally, champions that meta champions somewhat counter are out of it, for a time. Following the meta isn't something that should be considered as bad. It's a great way of experiencing the game and learning how any why something works, at any given time. But it becomes bad when players simply play according to it, completely refusing to believe that other champions (that are out of the meta) even exist or won't accept them as legit picks, when they finally are about to be played.

Darius bot is definitely out of the meta. But it may work. Mainly because he's just a champion that can take a lot of abuse and has sustain + absurd damage when he gets a fight right. However, you can't blame your team for not trusting you with that pick. Even if you're a Master player, you're playing with other Master players. They don't have, or are required, to trust you with such an unusual pick but one thing is for certain: they do not have the right to take away the role you were assigned to, if this is your choice for a champion.

Which means if they disagree with this decision, they can either play it out and report you if you're trolling them for a specific reason or queue dodge. On the flip side, if they are taking your role because they don't want to let you, you have a valid reason to report them, if you didn't agree to this switch.

The boards are for community discussion. Riot participating on the boards is an extra. Most games and communities are expected to maintain a forum of some sort for players of the game to communicate.

That said I understand why Riot doesn't communicate much about balance on the boards. The boards are an entitled mob riot of circlejerks and hatred. They completely lack reason and cannot address anything in a calm manner.

Tanks too strong for a while? "NERF TANKS TO THE GROUND WTF RITO!" Damage dealers too strong for a while? "ALL CARRY PLAYERS ARE SCUM WE NEED A NEW TRI-TANK META!"

And to be perfectly frank. While I agree with many of your viewpoints you too can be spazzy about a lot of things as well. Like the Riven bug fiasco where you had to keep adjusting your circlejerk to the latest information.

You also try waaaaay too hard to call out specific individuals. You are just vague enough for it to not be name-and-shame. But you do it.

On top of that not every master/challenger player thinks just like you. Just because Riot hasn't specifically responded to your needs doesn't mean all top tier players feel that way.

I agree it would be great to see some of those champions in top tier play. But top tier players in ALL games tend to pick like this: What is OP in this meta, what works with this comp/enemy, what has lots of options and can play around others, what do I have skill in.

Extremely linear champions like Mundo and Fid will never be commonly viable in top tier play without being buffed to absurdity. Because even of Mundo had 25%-50% better stats than say... Fiora. Fiora still has actual tools. Mundo has one major tool to let him outplay enemies. That is super linear, and gets boring after a few games. It doesn't grant tools to express you are a superior player like, you know, Jhin.

Also a lot of top tier players are SUUUUUPER bias for their role or champion. Why wouldn't they be? They invested a lot into it. So contacting them compared to reading data sheets doesn't serve much purpose.

Ahristocats6 votes

a lot of what you say is just unrelated to me Mundo and fid need kit rework, same for Sona, but my point is that NOTHING IS BEING DONE, absolutly nothing look at the fid rework during mymu, why nothing is being done? because riot doesn't care about high elo for real it's the only explination i can find with 2 changes i can make Sona more dynamic and better in high elo without breaking low elo

Top tier players are super biased, but sometimes they bring things to the table arguments that should be taken in account. If you say darius can be kited (while posting an other top tier player not maining darius saying it) it simply doesn't matter because in plat+ people can't kit darius. For real you can ask any top tier player they don't have to main darius and they will tell you that he was not op, his win rate was 52% in plat+, and 51% in diamond+, can you imagine in master+? (it's 45% atm in 7.2)

the riven bug was just me correcting adrian riven(or i don't remember his name) saying that it can be done on a all dash champion (wtf) and i was also saying that coding favoring a champion shouldn't be a thing, but i never said that riven was op

Fallen Artemis4 votes

Okay, while i may not be entitled to argue about high elo things, since ive been Silver the past 2 seasons, I still see some flaws in what you said

I agree with the part about Mundo, Fid, and Sona needing a rework, and im sure they can do something to make her more viable in higher elo without making her destroy lower elo, but saying that Riot doesnt favor higher elo and favors lower elo is just false. They just changed Yi this patch to help him out in higher elos, which is most likely going to destroy lower elos once people figure out how much they buffed him. Also, the LCS is thing, the only reason Lee Sin hasnt been nerfed to the ground yet is because Riot specifically said that wont nerf him because of his impact on the LCS.

Also, have you thought that there are much more players in lower elos than higher elos? The amount of players in plat or above is 5%. Shit, you said yourself you just made it to the 0.0445% of the playerbase. Im pretty sure Riot would think about the rest of the 95% of the playerbase before the 5% and up in most cases.

Im not being biased, because i honestly hate ranked and the people in lower elos there, but you need to think about statistics and do research before saying things.

Which doesn't help, because he's gamebreaking in high elo

the problem is that the lower elo players can become better to help to balance the game, but higher elo can't become trash to play in a level where the game is balanced

Also, the LCS is thing, the only reason Lee Sin hasnt been nerfed to the ground yet is because Riot specifically said that wont nerf him because of his impact on the LCS.

That's actually an example of the oppsite, lee sins winrate in the lower elos isn't something impressive, hence(or so it goes) he's not a problem in the lower elos, he is a problem in lcs and high elos, but since he is flashy AND not a problem in the lower elos(if he was a strong in silver as in lcs he would've been gutted by now), he is tolerated, this is the opposite of what you are arguing, it's a clear case of the higher elos being sacrificed for the sake of the lower elos.

The issue is that balance in the lower elos is vague(I hate to break it to you, but winrate=/=strength, even in bronze, no matter how much it's circlejerked about), it's more defined in the higher elos and it's impact felt much more there, also high elo players also tend to play more and high elo problems generally find a way to trickle down to the lower elos(It could be just people learning a new build, or it could be more complex things: like the playstle of certain champions fitting those in lower elos, making that champion disproportionately strong in their hands, even if average performance is low, or it could be design which is shitty in the higher elos being applied to other champions, who are now not only shitty in the higher elos, but in the lower elos as well(I'd argue lee sin spearheaded an obnoxious stanglehold of junglers over the early game, him not being dealt with "allowed" the existence of things like vi, khazix and rengar)).

Im not being biased, because i honestly hate ranked and the people in lower elos there, but you need to think about statistics and do research before saying things.

You are(like everyone is), balance for the higher elos WILL effect you, whether the effects will be good or bad is arguable.

Your opinion matters no more or less than anybody else's. You rank is a badge, but it is a badge that comes with absolutely 0 authority. That badge also isn't a demotion, and it shouldn't be some kind of scarlet letter either.

Thats being said, I appreciate that in the multitude of debates / arguments / discussions i have had with you in my times on the boards, you never pulled rank as an excuse / disqualifier (at least not that I remember) and that is a +1 in my book.

I will agree that supports get better the higher you go and top lane gets worse.

You can go 20-0 as a top carry like riven and a 0-10 support can still point and click exhaust you the moment you try to do anything in a team fight and remove you from the game.

like i said.... the more you climb the more the game is locked, i'm just warning people, do you want balance in plat+ and enjoy the game? then don't expect to have fun while climbing except if you don't care about diversity and you're just an otp, but even then your otp can be nerfed for plat+ while you're climbing in high diamond

do you want the game to be balanced in master tier+? then you will have the joy of climbing and having a competitive game except that those who don't think they have to improve to win against some champions like darius will complain and leave the game

overall, the first option is better for riot i'm just(and high elo players) a collateral damage of it

Sorry DJSR, but Riot's "focus on the high ELOs and Pro play' have ruined this game. I, a gold 5, have a terrible time and Riot should balance around me. Yasuo got nerfs but it's not enough!

I honestly miss the old days when someone asked Morello if they'd nerf Annie and he said "Naw, people will learn to deal with her". Spoiler Alert: They did.

Weathered7 votes

With any competitive environment there will always be the safest and most reliable choices, because the rules to the game always are the same. Because you are at a high enough level where almost all the players are at the top skill and decision making wise, the only variance besides specific in game mess ups is champion selection, so players obviously will contest and selectively pick champions with the highest chance of an advantage.

The main way to rise above meta dominance is to simply be marginally better than your opponent despite champion picks. This is why pro players are able to stream non meta picks in challenger, because they train much harder and have much better decision making than challenger players, which out weighs the small champion balance advantages of the other team's meta picks.

Games are decided so early because at the highest level of play players don't make plays, they punish them and lock in that advantage. Early game is too decisive because once there is an advantage, it takes a mess up from the winning team to be able to come back, which rarely happens in top ELO. This paired with safety of meta picks and already present snowball supplying mechanics (objective control, wave push changes, vision dominance) makes the early game the breeding ground of the winner, and why jungle has been a touchy subject especially this season.

I wish I could suggest a gamefixing change that would solve all this, but higher ELO has been like this for a while if you pay attention to analysts like LS and being someone in Platinum doesn't give me any credentials to know what it really is like playing at challenger level (aside from stray challenger players appearing in my normals).

Personally I think a lot of the issues are rooted in vision right now. You can argue champion balance all you want, but it will always be screwy because of how many variables are at play. Vision, however, is a simple mechanic available to everyone that can be capitalized in so many ways (preventing ganks, securing plays, gathering gold information, determining enemy jungle paths, etc). I'd like to see vision become more dynamic while maintaining all of its functions, so that you can utilize it more to press meaningful advantages instead of just getting dominated in a lane because of rules you can't control. Right now vision is a cushion, not a pathway.

Hope this sheds some light for anyone not too informed about high ELO and is a bit shut in for opinions because of how boards don't really represent higher play.

TheI3igDaddy7 votes

That's honestly one of the bigger reasons why I stopped playing. I managed to get into Plat 5 but I started thinking to myself, "Gee, I assume the higher up I go, the more meta everything will be because everyone up here are so HELLBENT on winning via the strongest (read: OP for patch) teamcomps".

Seriously though, congrats on Masters. Few people can ever say that they got that high in the entire world.

AninLegions7772 votes

the more meta everything will be because everyone up here are so HELLBENT on winning via the strongest

The beauty about high elo is that even though they stick to meta, you can pick a champ you are really good at (keywords: REALLY GOOD) and destroy the meta. You can do this in any elo obviously but the higher you go, the better your mechanics and game knowledge and the easier to carry with the non-meta champ.

While I appreciate your concerns; And being Super High Elo kind of sucks; But when you balance the game to make it enjoyable for 2,000 players, you end up making the game significantly less fun for the other 100,000,000 players.

There should be a balance between the two; Thats why the game is balanced around High-Mid Plat tier play, because thats a spot a lot players can achieve if you put in real dedication, but not a spot thats easy to achieve. Unlike masters/challenger which is a whole different world.

dominusx2 votes

maybe the 101012401i43918391831291243 bronzies can finally learn to play and become better at the game so the balance is effective across all tiers. You can pick Renekton with ignite and i can pick Soraka with flash cleance and stomp you in lane does that make her broken and that she should be nerfed? no just because people cant play the game properly doesnt mean it should be balanced around their uselessness to compansate altho the game is popular and only 2% is actually high elo so yeh they will only lose customers so it will never happen. But bad people are just a money source for me anyway so keep it going till the game dies i guess right? (not directing hate towards you just talking in general before you try to defend yourself)

I've seen plenty of streamers (Dyrus, Valkrin, etc...) play non-marksmen bot lane. Dyrus played Yasuo for the entire preseason and Valkrin played a lot of Veigar adc. I'd imagine it was also a high elo streamer that popularized Adc ziggs.

I don't see how your argument is that higher elo players won't let you do stuff like Darius ADC, yet players with higher elo than you are able to lock in similar picks?

Perhaps you should say what you're doing.

i'll try to popularize adc darius (let's dream) but for this i need to be able to play my position instead of people forcing me to go top

DemoGuide1 votes

I imagine that your darius bot is more of a lane bully type? Because in theory, Darius has really strong damage early if he can stack his passive. Kinda reminds me about good old Pant/Sion/Taric lanes, but better, because Darius doesn't fall late game. Am i right?

Ahristocats6 votes

he kind of falls off in late game because an adc will deal more damage than him, but he will still be relevant and can win a teamfight if darius and his team kills the enemy adc

but yes there are 2 things with adc darius: -99% of the adc can't 2v2 him he just needs a good support to start a fight because he can't do it alone his hook range is too small -ADC darius makes darius able to have a lot of Tanks with cc he's squishier than the other melee and depends on his heal too much, and also gets kited without cc
