The #1 worst thing you can do when ahead

Trade kills. It will end up helping the enemy far more than it will yourself. The best way to get back into a game is get a few kills under your belt. So trading is always a good thing when behind. Especially if you are not worth too much gold or they have a bounty. When ahead, please listen, it may seem like a good idea to dive 1v5 as a fed kat and maybe get that nice penta. but if you miscalculate, even by a sliver, you die instantly and give them gold. Chasing kills that are not free is always a bad idea. Unless they have no chance of escape or rescue, or you need to buy time for something/someone else you should never chase the kill past 3-5 seconds of chasing. They will most likely have a few teammates coming to help and then the chase becomes a bait by the enemy.

Just forcing a back is plenty for early game if your farming is good and/or they are bad at farming. The gold and experience they will miss is well worth it. But trading kills will net you virtually nothing unless it is first blood. The enemy wants to trade kills when behind and will look for any chance to do so.

item 1011 to hold up the pants because your hands are too busy carrying your heavy teammates.

I like building defense when ahead to make shutdowns and such more difficult. I like a nice hybrid offense / defense item, like a item 3001 or a item 3155.

You should go more defensive when ahead and offensive if behind according to a few interviewed players featured in the LCS (i forget exactly who said it but i remember hearing a mention of it, maybe DoubleLift said it).

You go offtank items when snowballing stuff like item 3001 item 3156 item 3025 item 3068

Because, you become nearly impossible to kill when doing so whilst your level advantage already gives more stats defenisve and offensive aswell as more potent abilities/ability damage Coepled with an item which porovides both offense adn defense you now have the damage to kill your opponent but he doesn't have the damage to kill you. Even with some missplays you will generally still be safe

its the safe snowball option

you could go balls to the wall damage item but then you can still be killed especially if you make a mistake

Usually the more damage oriented items are built after the more defensive oriented items once you expand your lead because of this reason.

I get your point, and I don't think trading kills is smart when you're ahead, but there are plenty worse things that you could do when you are ahead, like selling all your items and stacking Tears of the Goddess or trying to solo Baron every time you respawn or leaving the game or flaming your teammates or running it down mid...
