Can we move the surrender timer to 15 minutes?

Games are not lasting as long anymore. Games are more obvious now for who is going to win. So a 15 min surrender timer seems more appropriate.

People should be given the option to surrender after first blood. The game is over.

It's a joke, but know this is seriously how people in bronze behave like.

"First Blood enemy team" Bronze: GG. I'm AFK.

Me: Why?

Bronze: insert the lane that gave up first blood sucks. AFK.

Me: rip series.

I go cry in a corner because im still bronze!

It's all a part of life. We will get through it together.

I was playing toplane and got first blood. Then I died once to a gank, and then killed the top laner 3 more times and took a turret.

However, while I was 4 and 1 my team was 2 and 12.

We lost; it was a short game too.

na maybe if every lane is down 2 kills to the or lane opponent and the jungler is equal or lesser level than other one

People should be given the option to surrender in champion select.

I averaged your last 17 games (3 more didn't have times on op.gg for some reason) and it came out to a 30 minute average.

JavelinJoe8 votes

Still 30 as an average is a noticeable shorter length of games that s5. Also a few of the games ran long because team members would not surrender. Games now can be decided in less than 15 minutes, decided meaning one team has the overwhelming advantage.

HayRoss2 votes

Maybe about 5-ish minutes less? Not a large enough amount to warrant early surrenders

30 Minutes is very little compared to the last season

If you and your team are playing in such a way that a game becomes unwinnable as quickly as the 15 min mark, then there someone wrong, and simply surrendering to move on to throw the next game is only going to cause these issues to occur more often.

JavelinJoe3 votes

You haven't played much low ranking (bronze/silver) solo que have you? People fed that bad sometimes. Other times an opponent snowballs. This recent update made the heavy snowball prone champions snowball harder and quicker then ever.

Szunray1 votes

I honestly think this issue will sort itself out. People are still learning about the new items and such (I personally still haven't killed a rift Herald), so they're more likely to mess up really badly. For example, it's true that laning phase is likely to be over quicker than it was before. But I'm not seeing players adapt by going into teamfighting ealier. Right now, theres this period of "small skirmishes" that happen once a tower goes down. Since skirmishes don't involve as many players, the guy who won his lane isn't likely to get "focused" down. He'll probably just fight the guy who's already behind in lane, with some scarce help from the jungler (getting even more fed), while the other lanes that still have towers make believe that laning phase still goes on until 15-20 minutes.

Anyway. I think this will sort itself out. If not, it'll get patched.

As much as I agree that games are not lasting as long, there are many people who start to give up before the game even starts. Or even if we have an advantage, or if we have the potential to outscale the enemy team. I am really worried because it's already a problem now when my teammates decide to give up and spam surrender after 20 minutes, imagine if it was 15. There are some people who troll or stay base when I refuse to accept surrender.

I would surely agree with moving the surrender timer to 15 minutes ONLY to games in which your team has an AFK since the beginning. However, for other games, I am not really sure since this could encourage people to give up, and there are many people who already give up too easily.

JavelinJoe1 votes

Then maybe a mercy rule like if the enemy is 15 kills ahead by 15 minutes

Yeah, because you're forcing them to play a game they don't want to play. I don't understand why people insist they can come back when one or more persons on the team has already given up in their mind. Keeping them stuck in your game isn't going to make them try harder, just accept the surrender.

Also there's currently no potential to out scale. Play anything other than an early game carry and watch as you and your team get shredded and get pushed into your base in all lanes.

In my opinion, the chance to out scale is invalidated if A) the enemy laners are all 30+ CS ahead, or B) less than two people are even grouping to contest dragon.

If you're just going to give up dragons, you're not going to out scale. The enemy team is literally getting free stats you can't buy.

NO! This is the wrong trend.

If you want sub 30 minute games play 3v3's. dont bring that shit to SR. SR is about strategy, not rushing shit to close out the game superfast. I hate this patch for pushing into that direction!

Lucifer4 votes

The sad thing is that you have to go to 3v3 or dominion to play longer games now lol

Rikari4 votes

No. Camps spawn 15 seconds earlier. Minions spawn 15 seconds earlier. Then, logically, following this trend, surrenders should be 15 minutes earlier.

Stillname1 votes

camps also spawn 15 seconds earlier.

HalloweenDeath1 votes

This is a perfectly logical conclusion.

Secretlolz3 votes

Should be 12min surrender now

warpenguin5553 votes

Or they could undo the game pace changes

Dunkrius2g2 votes

Riot could make the surrender time 3 minutes instead of 5 minutes for every surrender that is failed but they can't even make it 15 mins? Sad

DrCyanide2 votes

The problem with an earlier surrender is that it adversely effects mid and late game champions (they can't hit their spikes or can't use their spikes long enough to influence the game), and makes games almost completely decided by the early game champions.

4ManVotedAgainst2 votes

I would rather the option be disabled altogether. I would ONLY agree to this if EVERYBODY had the SAME experience as I did of being force-surrendered for over 20 matches in a ROW from four-man-surrender-votes due to EVERYBODY on your team feeding & dying 45x EVERY game after placements (rest of team always reaching the 40-death-count before the 15-minute-mark) & being DEMOTED into BRONZE during the season (TWO times demotion into Bronze in the SAME season, for that matter, just like it happened to me at the beginning !).

Have you ever watched Starcraft? I know next to nothing about the game but the games are surrendered in like 5 minutes.

1 side sends over something small, the enemy see its. GG surrendered. Hands down the most boring thing ever.

Criomhthann6 votes

Starcraft functions entirely differently than league. No one GGs in response to something small, because more often than not that "small thing" is something that your build order literally doesn't allow you to handle. There are many situations where the proper response to whatever an opponent is doing is to just walk up and kill him.

Starcraft strategy is largely centered around timings, which are centered around the economic capacity of a race in relation to a build the race is trying to pull off. Scouting is considerably less important if you have memorized all the optimal build times. If there was a WoL TvP, and the Terran did a 1-1-1 all in, and the Protoss did anything other than a 15 Nexus, the Protoss automatically loses, because The Terran can both make more stuff and his stuff is better at killing than anything the protoss will have out by the time a 1-1-1 all in hits.

this is why i stick with league. i only need to memorize the function of 600~ abilities.

RIP Tahm Kench2 votes

You know, that's an odd statement because when you think about it, we also have memorized hundreds of abilities and even items. 4 or more abilities per champion, over 100 champs, 50 or so end game items, some of which have actives; we just don't notice it because we memorize it one bit at a time.

Like in my case, for some damn reason I think that the item shop in Dota 2 is really painful to use and hard to find the stats you want, but then you watch streamers and they literally spend <2 seconds in the shop deciding what to get.

I played Guildwars 1 for over 10 years with thousands of hours into it. I used to have all the function of every (1300~) skills memorized. I still remember most of them.

I spend a lot of time considering what item to get from the shop. Its something i need to work on speeding up.

maikokk2 votes

that because stats in dota are nearly irrelevant. item effects and how they synergize with abilities and modifiers is far more important. its a game of hard counters... which means that if you have knowledge of optimal play patterns with your champion or against your opponents champions then there is no deciding what item to buy, you know.

it makes for a huge learning curve that climaxes at boredom. once you know the information you realize that there is no such thing as an alt build

Dishcandanty1 votes

I literally left starcraft to play League, because league games were averaging like 40 minutes. After average game for my on Hots was 12 minutes. Average mind you... that means a whole lot finished before 8 minutes.

You carried with Sated Yi and in most of your games got decently fed. Even then most of them didn't make it past the 30 minute mark.

I'll give you that comebacks can be made if you get fed and use that lead properly, but games are a lot shorter lately.

I'm not saying that sated Yi is overpowered, but he's definitely a strong enough pick that can snowball well. Don't dis the Yi outplays though. They can be pretty sick when it's not someone just mashing keys.

RyzeRework1 votes

{quoted}

Nobody is complaining about Sated Yi though. Not a single thread. People are saying that games end faster by stomps due to Graves, etc. There were enemies who were fed way before I became fed. Recently had some games with very fed Fioras/Graves (for example), and I was still able to take them out and help win the game despite my feeding team after "afk farming" for 20 minutes. I didn't just 1v1 them. I made good decisions and maybe outplays (lol Yi outplays, amirite?). And some games weren't even stomps at the nexus. Some of them were surrenders, hence their short duration.

I will say this though: Towers have gotten MUCH squishier. You could easily split push once and open the gates. I think this is most likely the reason why games are ending so quickly.

Lol Graves is strong but I think his lategame is 2 strong early game I understand he can kill mostly anyone but I played quinn vs Graves and made him so useless then outta nowhere the burst was 2 strong
