Auto-filled players should lose less LP in losses and gain more in wins

JavelinJoe··261 votes·8,447 views

It already sucks to have to play something I didn't even want to, but to have to lose the same amount of LP is just kicking me when I'm down. So why not lose only half the amount of LP in losses (like 50%), and win a bit more than normal (like 150%) in wins. It would at least provide some additional incentive to compensate the crappy role placement.

Edit: I Know that pre-season 6, it was more or less auto-fill for every game. But since season 6, everyone more or less got use to playing only 2-3 roles and avoided 1-2 of them. This meant that players didn't have to stay current with the 5 various metas around play styles and "what/who currently is the best" in every role. Especially with the many Jungle changes, item changes, and "class updates" that happened throughout season 6.

I wish we knew which players were auto-filled. We could offer to swap them if we habitually fill. If someone is bad or good while filling, we have no clue, we just have to ask them or guess. Not a reliable system.

My main concern is that the system most of the time gives the fill slot to random players or worse, players that don't want to fill...and even if it's random players, they most likely don't want to fill anyway. So why force it on them?

I get that you want players to improve, but many players are just being toxic and not trying to win when they get auto-filled. And even if that's an exaggeration, it's still good information for the teammates to know if they are filling or not.

I always say, auto filled to x role, main X/X so my team can know what to do and know beforehand I'll probably will do less than great. Communication my friend, communication

Autofill is fundamentally flawed, the more it is used the less we feel like playing, the less players the more it is needed to be used. Cycle of destruction.

DrCyanide12 votes

The max it's used is 1 out of every 5 games. Are you seriously going to quit the game because once in a while you have to play Support?

My having to play support is not why I quit playing, it is because it takes a half hour or more to get into a match because autofilled players queue dodge. I like playing the game, not playing the lobby ban phase over and over again.

The reason they introduced role queue in the first place was to reduce the number of queue dodges, now they have a system that fights itself.

Beside all of that, do you want a weak support on your team who does not know how to ward river, the timing of the skills on their champ and so on? I played several thousand normal games in support, top, and jungle before I went into ranked with those roles. If I get out in ADC by autofill at some point it will likely be an auto loss for my team.

In short, a team is only as strong as its weakest link, that weakest link will often be the autofilled player. I do not enjoy playing a game where the choices are out of our hands and left to chance. Autofill is RNG, there is already enough of that in the game with crit.

Autofill is not RNG if you know how to "abuse it". If you queue as support, your next 4 games will be "autofill protected", which means you can't get autofilled and you will get your primary or secondary role. If everyone did this, nobody would ever get autofilled and there would be enough supports for near instant queues

YOU may be protected, but not everyone else on your team is, that is the RNG element, you never know if someone in your team is put in a position that they are terrible at. As long as autofill exists we will always be running a risk of having a terrible feeding support who never buys sight stones or places wards.

I play the system already, queuing for support to avoid being filled into it when I would much prefer not to be. I actually do not mind playing support overall, but do not like playing it often or all the time, as half of the time the ADC is a big steaming pile of poo (does not follow up on my engages, no damage, positions poorly, blames or does not communicate at all). I prefer a game where I can feel my contribution to a game was more than keeping an ADC alive through laning only to watch them just play terribly in mid and late game. At least in solo positions you are mostly only responsible for the impact you have on the game.

Does "once in a while" mean every other game? (Thanks to the Autofill Protection)

You do realize the old system forced you into a roll you didn't want to play occasionally, right? I'm a Diana one trick pony, but being last / third / fourth pick didn't promise me mid or jungle.

So what's the complaint about the new system.. where you RARELY don't get a choice in your two roles (AKA, support or another roll that needs to be filled).

On an individual level it doesn't seem to be a problem really does it? Think about this however, I may not be autofilled this game, but someone else on my team might, and if they are not confident or strong in that role they are going to play worse at it, thus increasing the chance to lose. We cannot tell whether an enemy is autofilled or not, but either way, it is all random chance, which is unhealthy for a game really (thus why they took out things like dodge mechanism).

So. . . as I said, autofill is a problem on a magnitude that cannot be stated often or clearly enough. Once you start caring about winning at all you do not want to put yourself at the mercy of chance, especially when one could easily track the number of autofill games and start to calculate the losses of players involved in matches where autofill took place. It will be higher by a large enough percentage to cause issues, the system is flawed, designed to fix long queue times, at the expense of the quality of the matches, and thus the fun of the game, the same can really be said of the MMR system as well, but it's been around and ingrained for so long now that it cannot really be removed or changed without irreparable damage to the system as a whole.

i main adc and mid, they autofill me to jungle, ok im fine im not good but i can play safe, but why the fuk they gave it to someone else who sucks adc, i have no fuking idea. I dont understand why they make ppl pick the role while they cant play what they chose? Fuk this "improvement"

Wolftastic335 votes

You'd rather have the old system with pick order, where you could only choose from the roles the teammates above you hadn't chosen yet? I mean, if you're last pick now, you can counter pick. Back then, if you wanted your role and were first pick, you'd have to blind pick it, letting your enemy be able to counter you. Go play fill/support for one game, and you'll have one of your two roles guaranteed, for five games.

Wait wait, are you going around to every thread complaining about autofill being a shitty thing and suggesting we completely remove the role queue system? Literally 2 months ago the role queue system was fine, nobody was pissy about it. Riot fixed what wasn't broken, and wound up breaking it.

I just get tired about everyone complaining about having to play a role they don't main once in a while.

See, when you play ranked, you want to play your mains. You don't want to gamble on something you have little to no experience in. Ranked is not the place to learn a role or champion. Riot is effectively forcing people to unless they have an understanding in every role that matches their MMR (for example, in order to play support in ranked, i need to have the skill of a platinum-diamond support. i don't play any support champions, nor do I touch bot lane).

You want to, I understand that, and I never said it is the place to learn a role, or a champion. Ranked, you see, is a place where you show how good you are in League, not how good you are in one or two lanes. You need to be able to play every role well. In order to play support in ranked, you don't need to have that platinum-diamond support. Why would you? But, your skill in support would be taken into account for your MMR and your rank, and thus give a better indication of how good you are in league.

Shiftea8 votes

I don't agree with this, even the pros have specialization. Ever heard the saying "jack of all trades, master of none"? You cant be at a high level of play in all roles. There's not enough time in every day to learn them all to a high level.

SmileInABox3 votes

Riot needs to go all in with Autofill and punish players harder for dodging, or remove it all together. The idea of flexible people that are willing to work with the team climbing better is great, but allowing people to dodge when they dont get their way makes it pointless.

MonkeyMadness5 votes

You do realize that this entire game was autofill until season 6 right? Stop depending on this crutch and learn how to play the game instead of just learning your 2 champs. You might actually improve a bit.

Bladerunner77774 votes

You do realize in season 5 every game was entirely based on pick order

Riot has spoiled you too much

JavelinJoe4 votes

Think about it, in season 6 you didn't have to learn to play all 5 roles because of "pick-order". You selected 2-3 and hard mained them because they were guaranteed more or less. Which means people like myself haven't played a whole lot of a particular role or two. For me it is Jungle. I haven't had to Jungle for the majority of season 6, which means that I am unfamiliar of what the current "Jungle Meta" is and what it recently was. It also meant that I didn't purchase most of the Jungler role champions, because again, I didn't have to play Jungle for most of season 6.

Bladerunner77776 votes

I miss that

I think being able to master every position is a better reflection of skill rather than playing one champion all the time. Which is ironic because I myself got to Diamond 5 in Season 6 by one-tricking Nami:

http://i.imgur.com/Zksp3zw.png?1[/img]

(My high winrates/games played with Kha'zix and Hecarim are for the most part from Ranked teams)

I guess it's a personal thing, but I just like becoming well-rounded at League more than mastering 1 champion. I started playing a lot of mid in normals (a position I rarely play) and I learned a lot of interesting things I would have never learned in any other role.

I remember when Lulu could be played pretty much anywhere. Only champ you needed for a little while.

YoungFarmer3 votes

I find it hard to believe that in season 7 of league people can't play each role even decently. I can play every role to a varying degree of skill so although it sucks to be forced to fill, its really not that big of a deal.

NineTailedMystic6 votes

It's not that we can't, it's that we don't want to. I despise bot lane. I don't want to be put there under any circumstances.

If you don't want to get autofilled, play one game as support and your next 4 games are "autofill protected", meaning you can't be autofilled.

Serika Zero4 votes

not everyone started playing in s1 to know all roles "even decently". Also, the higher in elo you get, the more you would find people are actually "specialized" on their roles.

Even in LCS, you don't see mid laners playing support every 5th game. You don't see ADCs switching to top lane every 3rd game. The higher in elo you get the harder is to keep a large champion pool for all roles.

I'm plat elo. I got ~3-5 mid laners I can play at that elo range, I got 2-3 top laners I can play at that elo level, I got 1 support (which I refuse to play when auto filled) around that elo range and 1 ADC. If I would have to even go on my main role (mid) and play Azir/Oriana/Cassio/Ryze/Annie (and everything else I don't know how to play with) in ranked, our team has 80% chance to lose. If the enemy team bans Janna or I'm pissed because outfill, our chance of losing are ~90%. If the enemy bot lane counters MF, I'm useless for my team even playing somewhat decently.

If I were to go higher to Dia. My Janna would fade away. My MF would become weaker and I would be left with ~2-3 mid laners and 2 top laners. You need to realize this game has a lot of information. And you knowing that information takes time to acquire. That's why people got mains. With those specific champions they are aware of their damage output on different stages on the game, they are aware of different builds and playstyles they can use, they are aware how they can avoid damage, they are aware of what they can actually do and what they can't do. And all that for a single champion is like doing all combinations possible of 5 out of 120+ character roster. Its A LOT of information. And there's also wave manipulation, trading, zoning, sieging, baiting, vision control. Even here I'm plat and not doing some of these things even on my mains. Coz I don't know every match-up yet...

Its literally impossible to ask someone that is playing at his peak on one specialized role to instantly be able to play, also as his peak, another role. If I'm facing a non mid/top main on mid while using my main... the usual result is a 1 sided game (unless enemy jungler camps the shit out of me) even if the other guy is 5 divisions above me (and the difference between plat 3 to dia 3 is huge).

While autofill is an abomination and Riot is garbage this would not work. If you are autofilled but there is a beta on the team that swaps you top and he will support you should gain 150% lp? This simply would not work.

Yep. This is the main reason that this wouldn't work. Filling sucks, but just pick a champion that you can lane safely with and just farm it out.

DarkRitual2 votes

It also punishes support mains. I get 100% gains/losses but the autofilled guy on the other team gets a bonus gain or lesser loss? Feslsbadman.

JavelinJoe4 votes

it is only a +/- of about 8-10 LP or so. And you are on your main role, you should preform as expected. They are not even on their secondary role choice, so the likely wont preform well.

DarkRitual3 votes

I'm better off queing mid/top and getting autofilled to my main role than I am queing for support. Also, I can take other roles and trade them to an autofilled teammate. They keep their boost/penalty decrease but get a role theu want. Oh, they also get autofill protection on. Tripple win for them. Meanwhile I get the same lp gain/loss as if I queue for support.

Idea is flawed.

Owyn3 votes

lose only half the amount of LP in losses (like 50%), and win a bit more than normal (like 150%)

Too harsh. I mean if you play only mid and you'r forced to play as adc or jungler without runes, masteries or any idea what to do there you should at least gain twice as much LP and lose no more than 10% of LP [slayer-jinx-wink]

The Deckowner3 votes

If you played before season 6, you will realize that EVERYONE ws autofilled, and queue time was less than a minute in low elo and less than 5 minute in high elo.

People generally played BETTER back then because they had to learn every role and understand how it is to play the other roles, so the adc knows support need to leave lane to ward, jungler knows top laner needs ward coverage to split push, mid laner knows swhich lanes will have advantage over others and roam accordingly.

Now, after a whole season of NCS all these new players have become spoiled babies who only know how to play one or two roles and don't understand how other half of the game works.

It would be easier for everyone to fill if runes and mastery setup wasn't such a cluster.

They could simplify masteries and do away with mastery pages entirely.

Before the new champion select people had to call their roles in chat, and now because there Is a MUCH smaller chance that you're not going to get the role you wanted you now need some kind of compensation!? We never had one back then and never needed one so why do you need one now? It used to be far worse than this, I'd take autofill over old champion select any day. Plus, it'd be good for the playerbase to understand how all 5 roles work so they can know how to work with them and combat them.

Dreamscent2 votes

Dodge rates are through the roof now, I'm basically getting into an actual game in the same time as before thanks to this. With lower quality games at low ELO as well, due to players being unfamiliar with roles.

Agreed. That is a very good idea that will lead many people to autofill. I wish Riot gave more attention to the boards :P
