Runes Reforged - It's Here To Stay

Love them, or hate them, the Runes Reforged are here to stay. There is nothing, at this point, that RIOT can do to revert from them. What happens if they try:

  • There are Platinum and Diamond accounts who've never had Runes. They will have none.
  • If they then make all runes FREE - There are innumerable accounts who will demand refunds of both BE and RP for the fortune we all spent on runes before Reforged.
  • People will then have to re-learn how to use Runes, as Rune pages were almost based on individual taste down to the % point.
  • A number of items will have to be re-worked, due to the fact they have been reworked around Runes Reforged.
  • Countless people will complain about certain runes at that point, such as Crit Damage, thanks to some of the new champions. You think Yasuo is bad now...Try him just rushing Infinity Edge because his runes started him with over 20% crit chance.
  • Runes were also problematic, insofar as balance was concerned, and could decide the game independently.

Are there problems with Runes Reforged? Oh yes. Far too much damage has been added to the game. More utility granted to champions who shouldn't have it, more opening burst than they should have, and often far more toughness than they have any right to. Runes Reforged is seriously too high, numbers wise, across the board.

That all said - it is here to stay

Instead of demanding RIOT revert Runes Reforged, as oh-so-many popular posts have tried... how about offer actual solutions? Not "I hate execute, it executed me." Actually look at the numbers, and wiggle them around. See what might retain the function without destroying the whole. Because... as I said. Love it or hate it, It's going to stay. Forever.

Yeah, but I'm not.

Playing a lot less these days, and not buying new things. Not even the missions are good motivators.

Nah, it's a garbage system.

I don't understand the problem here?

If they then make all runes FREE - There are innumerable accounts who will demand refunds of both BE and RP for the fortune we all spent on runes before Reforged.

They've already been compensated for it before?

Everyone that used IP on Runes got a bunch of Blue Essence to spend on the Blue Essence Emporium.

Everyone that spent RP were granted free skins.

People will then have to re-learn how to use Runes, as Rune pages were almost based on individual taste down to the % point.

As if the old system was more complicated than the new one.

The old one were just stat increases.

The new one is several paragraphs of text.

A number of items will have to be re-worked, due to the fact they have been reworked around Runes Reforged.

Such as?

Countless people will complain about certain runes at that point, such as Crit Damage, thanks to some of the new champions. You think Yasuo is bad now...Try him just rushing Infinity Edge because his runes started him with over 20% crit chance.

Then remove the few runes that are problematic and keep the rest.

Runes were also problematic, insofar as balance was concerned, and could decide the game independently.

HAH.

You're making it sound like this isn't the case now.

I honestly don't understand the problem of reverting the system.

Because the old system was complicated, one-dimensional, stat-checky, boring, less options, champions lacked good keystones, bad visuals, expensive, bad for new players, didn't have as much impact so less decision making and less strategic value is some of the reasons for why the new system is superior.

A lot of players either don't remember the old runes, or only dealt with them for a year or so. They didn't spend years amassing all the runes, just to sit on the same 4 rune pages for even more years.

Yea, for me i used to have a few runepages and when I found the optimal rune setup I rarely changed it or looked at it again. There was maybe a few exceptions but I didn't really see much point of it then. You could often just find the mathematical best way to set up your rune page. Bad design honestly and why it got reworked I suppose.

That was my main for awhile :p though a lot of times I'd run pure crit damage and armor, and grabe a brace at level 1. Just for that occasional 250dmg crit.
